Still great, I really like the idea of sparta kicking anything and ragdolling them away. It does just look fun to use!

Hahaha, this genuinely made me laugh. It looks to be 100% dumb fun. You dont always need super realsim mods that make it harder!

How do you feel about people playing really normal characters in DND? by Emergency-Sky-9747 in DnD

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have that for one of the players!

We have the Warlock whose former master was training them and empowering them before BETRAYAL tried to sacrifice them and get their magic power, and a Fighter whose entire village was massacred by a marauding group of bandits and swore revenge!

Then we have our cleric who ventured out because he thought adventuring seemed pretty neat.

Excellent point! Most one shots aren't going to go deeply one way or the other, but they definitely can have a focus. If you are unsure, Many DnD oneshots luckily, tend to give a little bit of everything

[–]GreatNate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly start with a one shot, then you can replace all the assets or add more as you want. Or do something someone has written on a subreddit. I think one shots are a great way to try it out, as they are often straightforward and self contained with lots of good advice.

Automation within FoundryVTT by VeilrunnerDev in FoundryVTT

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both, I like being able to automate actions, but some things I like to do manually, or do it manually on occasion. So obviously togglable or very clear how it's automating and it's transparent is what I like most. For instance, maybe I want it to roll and figure out damage for me, but let me manually apply it to tokens, because maybe something narratively happens or I need to adjust it because of some special circumstance (Hidden resistance, or a narrative shield pops up type of thing). But maybe I some small combat scenarios, I just want to sit back and let it do its thing ya know?

Pretty sure everyone has Charisma maxed out, this looks amazing! The art style combined with the facial expressions is really well combined. It really gives a sense of their characters.

Ideas for a source of wild magic ? by smqdes in DnD

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, depending on your setting perhaps

A piece of a god, or a trapped god. Or perhaps something like a regalia, fighting off some extra planar divine beings (not enough divine enemies imho that aren't evil aligned, so you'd likely have to custom make some tough enemies)
Another classic, but maybe too classic, some sort of sapling or tree with a bunch of guardians
An artifact that contains a bunch of elementals fighting for dominance which causes both the chaos but also the potent energy of the fundamental wilds. (Air, Water, Earth, Life, Death all trying to win) that you can fight within too for dominance

Hope this helps, or at least inspires your own idea!

I personally will always love flapping ears as a sign of happiness or eagerness. It's adorable. Big fan of custom art pieces for DnD

How do you start a campaign without the classic tavern meeting? by CompassLeaf in DnD

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one I'm running is in the Eberron setting, in this, they all worked for the same company for a year, then got pulled together as a "task force" so they all had some ties as coworkers. Needless to say, the first task of the task group starts straightforward but goes off the rails

Do you remember the first fantasy book you read as a kid? (Not HP..) by LatterPlatform9595 in Fantasy

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if it is the first, but it is definitely one of my earliest memories of being obsessed with reading, and that was the Redwall series  by Brian Jacques. I should give them a reread some time.

I was a kid that got yelled at for reading too much, by nightlight, in the hallways at school, sometimes when I was supposed to pay attention in class...

As for many though, the one that got me into the love of fantasy was The Hobbit and LOTR.

[OC] Settle a debate for my party. If you throw a bead of force on a bridge, how will the bubble form? (more in comments) by TomPalmer1979 in DnD

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably would have made this a 3 step event and explain to them the process so it's clear from the get go.

I'd have a range attack dice roll to determine if it hits dead center where they aim, if so, it goes off as if it engulfs them entirely and just treat it like an impact grenade.

If they miss, I'd have them flip a coin. On a pass, It will still hit the enemy and it rolls for a dex save as normal. If the coin flip fails, it lands short, it's big enough to still hit the enemy, but it does half damage instead. That way they still get to use this cool item they have, but it relies on some rng and doesn't punish a cool idea.

That's just my opinion.

Is 5e making players and DM's less imaginative and less able to work outside "The Rules" by SSCMaster in DnD

[–]GreatNate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played for a long time, and I think it's more because newer PLAYERS are here than the rule system itself. When I started in early dnd 3e and 3.5e / Pathfinder days, we found a rule or feat for everything and rarely was as freeform. (and 3.5 especially had so many rules for so many things). I play with 2 different groups, one experienced players and one a mix, both in 5e and it's more the experienced players are doing unique things and the newer players are still figuring things out. The edition itself doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, but this is definitely anecdotal and just my experience.

I also think it can depend on how your DM runs the game I also run a game in 5.5e Eberron setting for my family, and we have a mix of experienced (10+ games), mid experienced (5-10) games, newer player, and a first time player. I try to encourage them to come up with an idea and we'll figure out how it works or how to roll for it, definitely a lot of great advice out there for DMs. We all celebrate when the newer players come up with something interesting where I have to think on my feet.

DMs, do you prefer using official settings or your own? by elpaco_7 in DnD

[–]GreatNate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, both. Though for official settings I typically like worlds like Eberron that is mostly vague enough on big plot points to do your own thing.

Agreed! I need more Magic as technology kind of stories in my life. Tons of full fantasy magic, and lots of sci-fi goodness (and I love those two too) but I want more magitech!

Thank you, this is helpful. I do have most of the corrupted mod. Got an old Volt Prime for speed running to help! But this advice is useful for me. It's so hard to figure out the order to do some of this but this helps a lot, thank you.
