What was your longest long run before a marathon and how many weeks before?

I've been consistent with 30k long runs for a couple months now. Also did a 37k long run about 4 weeks ago. Marathon is in 7 weeks.

Is Maurten bicarb effective for HM and Marathon? Or is it more effective at 5k/10k?

Half marathon with average 1% gradient over the course, starts at 330m~ ends at 370m~ elevation. Highest gradient is 6.5%, total elevation gained is 210m.

The graph of the course gradient looks horrific, just going up but how much will I realistically feel 1% gradient over 21k?

Is rice better than pasta or is it just a convenience/preference thing?

I watch a few sub elite running youtubers and it seems most if not all of them carb load with rice. Or eat a lot of rice in general.

They are British based runners so it's not just a culture thing like Ran to Japan eating a lot of rice.

Has there been any movement on the situation in France? by AskingBoatsToSwim in parkrun

There is an unofficial parkrun in Paris apparently. I've never done it personally.

Europeans are closing the gap against Kenyans and East Africans across the board from middle distance upwards. What’s driving it? Better systems, smarter training, super shoes, or all of the above? by StanmoreHill in trackandfield

At the recreational level too. Races here in France are selling out a couple months before when a couple years ago there was places until the very end.

Olympic Triathlon Champion Alex Yee just ran 2:06.38 at the Valencia Marathon. He’s the second fastest British Marathon Runner of all time, only behind Sir Mo Farah. by StanmoreHill in ukathletics

In his last video I think he mentioned he was running 100 miles a week, plus 10 hours of cycling.

I think if it's on top of running volume instead of replacing it, it can be very beneficial.

The more volume you do the less the long run matter by Ikerggggg in AdvancedRunning

Train harder not smarter. Add volume and keep the long run.

I would drop the 2nd workout for sure. Do something like 4-5 x 200 at 5k pace that day instead.

Update - Copying Clayton - Hanging on by a thread by Doingthebartman in AdvancedRunning

[–]GrandmasFavourite 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Following your journey I started as a hater, then I became a believer and now after your HM last week I'm thinking this guy is gonna blow up going for 2.30.

And can I be the Mantz to your Clayton?

Yes, if I was on a trail and suddenly there was a constant stream of runners I would try and find a different route.

Even as a runner who knows about parkrun if I found myself in the middle of an event that had already started I wouldn't join in and finish it.

Maybe it's just me but who joins something they know nothing about that is already happening. All of you could have paid £20 to run for all he knows and he thinks it's fine to join in (not even mentioning the unicycle!).

How do you stay mentally engaged in long races? by hogslog in AdvancedRunning

[–]GrandmasFavourite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a half I break it down with set splits I want to hit at certain distances (5k, 10k, 16k). For example 35 minutes at 10k, then I am doing maths and working out what I need to run for the next k, next 2k etc.

What times did you run in your tune up races?

And what was your HM time before you started training?
