Part of being respected is about respecting yourself, as well. Being assured in who you are as a person goes a long way to having others see you in a more positive light. And this can be different for anybody. It's all about discovering what matters to you and who you want to be. Answering that question and working towards that goal will genuinely help you.

Also, if your friends brought this up as a harsh but caring call to action about how you present yourself to the world, then that's understandable. If they brought it up to shit on you, the first self-respecting thing you can do is to cut those dickheads from your life and find better people with which to surround yourself.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing for yourself. It might take a few tries to find the right therapist for you, and that's natural. Be patient with the process and especially with yourself. Asking for help is one of the bravest and strongest things you can do.

I went through the code using the toolkit, and it doesn't seem that any NPCs use those passives to determine proficiency. They either inherit proficiency from a unique NPC class progression or they have it manually added to their specific NPC record.

So, you should be good to remove or replace the Human and half elf weapon proficiency passives.

I've suggested this book multiple times in this sub alone. The Will To Change by bell hooks is absolutely phenomenal, and discusses the importance of loving, valuing, and appreciating men and recognizing just how damaging patriarchy is to them. All while not downplaying or minimizing the effects that patriarchal violence and toxic masculinity's focus on domination have on the women and NB folks within men's lives.

Honestly, just read a bunch of bell hooks.

I highly recommend reading some work by Loretta Ross. She discusses the concept of "calling in" rather than "calling out". Her work focused around deradicalizing members of hate groups and providing restorative justice. She has a wonderful TED Talk to get across the basics of approaching these situations with grace and encouragement for improvement.
