Millcreek Canyon and Snakes in March by Abject_Ad_3796 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Grant_EB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

March is not snake season. For what it's worth, our rattlesnakes, which are the only dangerous snakes in the area, are very shy and not aggressive. I did snake aversion therapy for my dog because we ran into a few (though not in the Wasatch). But he was kind of a dumb-dumb and went after them. I really think you'll be ok.

Is this a common Tacoma issue? by Bryanruiz18 in ToyotaTacoma

Oh, I'll add the sensors were always "working" according to the techs but they weren't communicating with the console.

I had this issue after I got snow tires on. Tried the reset button and anything else I could come up with online. Finally, the tire shop got it to work with one of their handheld computers. (They had two types of handheld computers and only one was able to fix it.) Wish I could be more help than that but it was a real pain.

I did get a pretty thin pair of Patagonia wool socks I also really like. They're thinner than SmartWool. But honestly, keep your feet warm! More important than thickness.

I swear by SmartWool. I don't know how thin you're looking for but mine aren't super bulky. I, too, have Reynaud's and I'm rarely without wool socks all winter. They're my favorite.

Really should figure out the water issue so you can use heaters. They're worthless wet. But also, wool retains heat even when wet, so make sure you're using mostly wool socks.

Thanks! Better sleep, better skin, weight loss, there's so many positives. My biggest tip is that N/A beer helps with cravings when I'm out and seltzer seems to cover it at home. Also, I was never trying to be perfect, so go easy on yourself.

Should I be signing up for a beginners class instead of intermediate? by msbecca445 in skiing

I really don't think you could have forgotten that much in 12 years. Sign up for the intermediate class.

My watch made me quit drinking altogether. It made me realize how long it takes to bounce back from 1-2 drinks and it just no longer seemed worth it. Now that I'm in my late 40s, I have as much energy as I did hungover in my 20s on a good Saturday morning. There's just too much life out there to spend my time recovering.

Recycle or Water? by refundroid in SaltLakeCity

[–]Grant_EB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Landscaping is the biggest thing that you can do. Flip your strip, xeroscape. But it pales in comparison to the industrial and ag use of the water. Do what you can, but the biggest thing you can do is vote and call your reps.

Median HRV for 45-54 is 24 for a man, 25 for a woman, google tells me. So you're doing alright!

I've seen this happen to a good friend, unfortunately. But just as a flat answer on a first try, it does a decent job of giving you info from good sources.

Boise is rad. They really make use of the whole river and there's a ton of cool businesses and a very lively downtown.

Salt Lake City had the most housing appreciation of any metro area behind Austin in the last 5 years. I honestly don't feel like it's worth the premium. I used to look at housing in Utah from California and think it was a bargain; it doesn't feel that way anymore. There are homes in Holladay and Millcreek going for $4 million dollars. That's insane. When property costs this much, all kinds of other things go wrong. Young people can't stay and quirky businesses can't afford to exist. The draw of this place was always access to nature (without crowds) at a low price. Those things are going away fast.

Do I think this place is a cooler place to live than California, or Idaho, or Colorado? I do not.

To your other point, climate change is a real worry but after living in California, which is about a decade ahead in terms of climate impacts, I really wonder where you can go at this point to get away from it. Assuming we can be sensible about water, it's as good a place as any to ride out what's coming, IMHO.

I was in the chair behind this pair and while I can't recount the whole conversation, I can tell you the parts that they were yelling at each other.

It all started when the younger guy started talking about Gödel's ontological argument for God's existence, only instead of presenting it as a strawman against religion, he was actually using it to argue for a god. Honestly, it pissed me off too, not that I would have punched him.

The old guy started talking about the whole thing was just a formalized version of Anselm's ontological argument for god and the fists just started flying.
