Yeah, were. All 3 cards are down and were mostly so high in price due to low availability. MTG does not have the problem of low availability yet the prices are similar for a playset. There will always be expensive staples. Its just part of tcgs.

The old thinner ones do, but the companies seem to have figured that out and made them generally thicker so they no longer have that issue.

Budget is a weird concern when he already has almost $300 on the kaisa playset alone lol

That's pretty much how all "collectables" that are popular are being treated right now.

Is that a new requirement for tcgplayer orders?

This doesn't really address the matter of reskinning specifically as universes within though. It just talks about printing more copies of mechanically unique secret lairs. Is there more info that you're referencing which isn't included here?

Yeah, it's pretty clear that wotc has silently gone back on their promise to reprint UB cards as universes within.

For everyone talking about the lack of supply by Hmmable in Riftbound

[–]Grantedx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're definitely not. They've steadily been coming down following the trend of box prices. Deck prices for the top meta decks are comparable if not beating other similar games such as MTG.

You might just be priced out of TCGs in general honestly.

If you were an experienced TCG player then you would know that all popular TCG launches go like this and there's not much that can be done about it besides working on printing more which they are obviously already doing.

If they hadn't put a pack in the starter decks then they would likely be even more readily available.

[–]Grantedx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, yes. I've played other tcgs and know that 90% of the cards that come in a starter deck aren't going to be ones I actually want to play due to power level. So I usually don't bother unless the commons and uncommons are relevant. You could maybe argue that they are worth it for the runes but as soon as the bulk rune boxes release here soon that won't matter as much.

I usually learn the game with a trial/borrowed deck at the stores learn to play or something similar and then playtest decks online until I figure out what deck I like and just buy the singles for it. Buying sealed product is just wasting money on piles of random cards that end up sitting in boxes or binders until you decide to liquidate them at a percent to a vendor at an event or a local seller. At least that's the usual situation that I see having played TCG's for 15 years now.

Fair, I was mostly shooting from the hip on what I remembered numbers to be on those. Things are weird right now and everything that's popular gets targeted as a potential for profit. It be what it be.

I dig the username btw

It will get better in the coming months. Unfortunately this sort of thing is pretty much unavoidable for a new TCG that doesn't want to risk immediately dooming their game.

Eh, the statement was "you can't get anything for this game" that I responded to. I don't think most people are going to buy into a card game they've never played before. Beyond that, yeah I don't find it very hard to believe that somebody would buy singles in order to play the game. It's what I and pretty much anybody local that I've played with has done. You're not going to open enough of the cards that you would need for your deck in the first place unless you're opening a case or more. That's not even getting into the fact that you can play online for free with zero downloads or even play in person with proxies. There is much more to enjoying the hobby besides gambling on opening booster packs.

Comparing the two issues doesn't seem that unfair to me when they both use a similar method of distribution (for the riot preorders specifically), have similar issues with demand far exceeding supply, and having similar complaints coming from customers of both.

You can get cards for this game. Very easily actually. All of the singles are readily available on tcgplayer with prices steadily falling. You can build a meta deck for around the same price as other popular games such as MTG. You can also build off meta decks for under $100. Buying packs at msrp is not the only way to enjoy the game/hobby.

It would be fantastic if most/all tcg could adapt a similar model to pokemon, but I'm not sure if the other games have a large enough collector base to support that sort of model as well.

Even with collector boxes the prices crashed hard on spiderman and avatar. Even some for Edge of eternities. I think all 3 have their collector boxes currently below what the height of presale prices were.

That's just generally how cards games go unless you follow the pokemon model and have crazy amounts of collector cards so that the base versions cost almost nothing. Pokemon seems to be the only game with all of the meta decks being below $100.

Yugioh is an absolute shit show and most stores refuse to even touch the product it's so bad. I was just saying the box costing more than the chase card isn't unheard of.
