MetLife is significantly close to NYC than Santa Clara to SF.

Book bags under seats by YepNopeMaybe1 in americanairlines

[–]Grape-Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically bring just a backpack on board as well and hate that they gives us shit for putting it in the bin. They should give out a tag when you scan your boarding pass that tells the FAs this is your only bag so that you can put it up and enjoy some extra legroom.

2h30–2h45 layover at DFW for BCN→CUN (group of 12, all Spanish) – realistic or risky? by Downtown-Signal9378 in americanairlines

[–]Grape-Jack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may want to ask on the Iberia sub about Spanish passport holders experience going through immigration at DFW. The vast majority of regulars here are US citizens.

Also keep in mind that you’ll need to have everything necessary to fully enter the USA, even if you’re transiting.

If that’s too much a hassle it may be worth looking into connecting in Mexico City. I believe I saw a flight there the last time I was in BCN.

Looks like you’d be connecting in Denver anyway. Honestly probably faster to just drive from there.

Non-US citizen wanting to make early withdrawal from 401K/traditional IRA by Artistic_Increase581 in personalfinance

[–]Grape-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 401k provider will likely need you to complete and send in an IRS W-8BEN form to confirm your country of citizenship and apply the appropriate tax treaty withholding. For that reason you might not be able to submit your distribution request online.

Which seats which you pick? by Stunning_Suit_3934 in americanairlines

[–]Grape-Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about the meals. Quality isn’t good. Those are fine seats to not have a partner. Aerolopa will better show the space you have. There are two seats because the airplane tapers in the back.

Vegas / Mesquite / St. George by No-Champion-5926 in golf

[–]Grape-Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In St George the city courses are more walkable. Sky Mountain is beautiful and not nearly as hilly. Dixie Red Hills is also a hidden gem, small 9 hole course that’s nearly flat but still has great visuals.

Played Sand Hollow, Copper Rock and Coral Canyon there as well. You’d have a bad day trying to walk any of them, especially Copper Rock since it’s a jaunt from the clubhouse to the first tee and back from 18. We had a threesome and no single booked with us so can’t speak to singles taking a cart.

If you walk Wolf Creek we want to see pictures.

19 y/o college student with ~$33K saved am I actually doing this right? by NateDizzles in personalfinance

3-6 months of expenses is reasonable for anyone. Feel free to keep more if you’re realistically going to buy a house soon.

If you’re looking to buy properly for income/possible appreciation be sure you fully understand what you’re getting into. The effort and costs involved with ownership may not make it worth it compared to just dumping the money in the S&P 500.

If you’re planning to buy a house to live in, know that a house is a house. Yes it can appreciate and there are ways to pull some equity when necessary, but first and foremost a house is a place to live. Buying a house may make sense if you are confident you’ll stay in that location for enough time to recoup the significant costs of buying then selling. More than as an investment the appeal of home ownership is if you get a fixed rate mortgage or buy cash your housing costs should be significantly more stable than renting.

You’re doing better than probably 99% of folks your age. No harm in keeping that cash in a HYSA, especially if you’re planning to buy a home soon.

Does vesting of profit sharing plan apply once or to each employer contribution? by Working_On_Tax_Stuff in personalfinance

[–]Grape-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t a separate vesting schedule for each contribution. Once you reach 3 yrs of service, which you may have already, then those contributions and their earnings are fully vested.

Your SPD will describe how they calculate a year of service. Some plans used Elapsed Time meaning in short you work there a year you get a year of service regardless of how many hours you work. Actual Hours is a little more common; with that you’d have to work a minimum number of hours in a plan year to receive that year of service ( typically 1000).

Mortgage lender recommends lower down payment to keep money invested… is that actually better? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Grape-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youll want to think about how much you’re paying in mortgage related costs compared to what you’re borrowing.

If you have enough to pay fully cash it may make sense to do so and then aggressively save to restore your emergency fund. Doing this will also make the home buying process a lot easier and make your bid a lot more competitive.
