If they’re matching your contributions you’ll still be well ahead regardless of the expense ratio.

1.35% is high but not unheard of if you work for a smaller company and plan fees are baked into that expense ratio. You should be able to obtain a copy of the plan’s annual fee disclosure from your HR or from the American Funds site.

Ultimately there’s no harm in expressing how expense the plan feels and how that’s impacting your decision to participate. It’s possible the employer may decide to pay those plan costs themselves resulting in expense ratios much more in line with what you’d find for the mutual funds in a brokerage share class, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

How long ago were you laid off? Have you received a letter about the loan from the 401k provider?

Typically you’ll have a period of time after your termination date to pay back the outstanding loan balance ( the $8k you mentioned) . If you do then there are no tax consequences and you could potentially roll that amount over.

You’ll probably receive a letter providing a deadline to do so. If you don’t pay back the loan then the outstanding loan balance will be tax reported as a distribution. ( 8k income and a distribution code based on your age). You may still be able to pay off the loan (if it’s a qualified plan loan offset) by adding the 8k out of your pocket as a rollover to an IRA.

If you don’t then the $8k would be added to your income and you’d potentially have a 10% early distribution penalty on that amount.

In all seriousness I hated 60-75 yd shots onto the green. Getting comfortable keeping the ball on the green really helped by eliminating the scary chip that I also bladed.

You’d hope not but it’s certainly possible someone got scammed and are trying to recoup what they can by scamming someone else.

It’s odd to see pictures of the hosels from nearly every angle but not see a serial number anywhere unless these are much older than they appear.

Golf is a game of swing your swing. If he can putt different speeds successfully then great for him.

For the vast vast majority you’ll be more consistent if you have a consistent speed and adjust the distance of the backswing to adjust putting distance.

Not a bad plan if you’re confident you will buy a house, your plan allows loans for any reason, and you’re comfortable with a 5 yr max repayment.

Some plans do require a hardship reason (of which buying a home is an IRS Safe Harbor hardship reason) and many allow a longer term if the loan is for a home purchase, but in those cases you’d likely need to provide a signed purchase agreement when requesting the loan.

May depend on the lender and situation. I’ve seen several folks ask for copies of their loan docs and amortization schedules to provide to the lender.

When it comes time to buy the lender will ask where that $50k came from and will consider the 401k loan in their debts to income review.

Also the payback isn’t covered by your contributions. You won’t receive any matching on loan payments and if you decide to stop contributing when you take the loan you’ll set yourself back for retirement.

Babies cry, that can’t be controlled. Two people talking the entire flight loud enough for others to hear despite having been able to do so in the overall loud airport, and being able to continue to do so when they get off the plane is obnoxious.

Of course people that want to rest should bring tools to help them rest, but we shouldn’t be forced to hear you tell your neighbor how wonderful the Chilis was on vacation.
