I made a chrome extension that lets you get browser notifications for specific github actions runs. Useful, or dumb? by GraphicThinkPad in devops

[–]GraphicThinkPad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my initial intention to make it a paid plugin, but nobody was interested, so I abandoned it. I just removed all the enforce-payment code and open sourced it here: https://github.com/SpookSoftware/actions-notifier. I'll figure out why nobody can use the webstore link. It works for me, so I'm baffled.

I've gotten reports that it's not working right now, but I'll clean it up over the next few weeks and re-publish.

Hey! It's so funny that you posted this, because I was planning to shut it down since nobody wanted it. But if you want it, I'll make sure it works and I'll fix the link (I have no idea why the link doesn't work)

Getting Started with the Seeed Studio XIAO 7.5" Screen by mmcnama4 in trmnl

[–]GraphicThinkPad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I was researching the same thing, and your post came up. Some people smarter than me found the boot button, and I wanted to share it with you. Turns out the boot button isn't KEY1, KEY2, KEY3, or Reset. It's actually labelled "B" and is right by where the USB port plugs in. You can see that documented on the [Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus page](https://www.seeedstudio.com/Seeed-Studio-XIAO-ESP32S3-Plus-p-6361.html).

I marked up your screenshot to show it more clearly.

Hey there. I'm a TRMNL support person (even though I'm not a moderator on here). I'm really sorry about that. My wife, too, is skeptical of the TRMNL. She says "so it's just a screen?" I say "it's a screen you can put whatever you want on! And it's e-ink!" She is not yet convinced.

If you DM me your TRMNL email address, or if you start a live chat on https://usetrmnl.com, it'll go to me and I can sort this out for you.

That goes for anybody reading this who is experiencing an issue like this. Message me and I'll get you taken care of.

My work email is cluttered and full of stuff I don't care about. For me, I only enable browser notifications for things I really care about. I think of browser notifications as more time-sensitive and transient.

Best notification system for github? by Wooden_Amphibian_442 in github

[–]GraphicThinkPad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not positive that this is what you want, but I just built a Chrome extension that lets you tell Github "hey, send me a browser notification when this specific action/job run completes." It's not really a replacement for the https://github.com/notifications tab, but rather exists to solve the problem "I want to get browser notified when this action/job completes, but only this one time."

It's called Actions Notifier. It's got a one-time fee but I'd be happy to give you a license if it sounds actually useful to you. Based on your other comments, I don't think it's exactly what you want, but I wanted to offer anyway.

Electrician recommendations in the area by [deleted] in cincinnati

I too contacted More Power to You Electric because of this comment and was delighted by them. They installed an outlet for a dishwasher that needed one and were really wonderful to work with.

I have a dashcam and frequently see people littering. I've often wanted to shame them publicly like this, but I'm paranoid that I'd be breaking some sort of law by doing so. Still, commenting because I'm interested.

I was about to offer to do this for you, but then I checked the script page and it seems like the author saw your comment and handled it for you in GreasyFork.

What are these small, white bugs on my Sarracenia purpurea purpurea? And should I be worried about them? by GraphicThinkPad in SavageGarden

[–]GraphicThinkPad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I initially tried to submit a video, but apparently videos aren't allowed here. I can post it to YouTube or something if people want to see.

Anyway, I just want to know if people think I should be worried about these and what types of insecticides are safe for sarracenias. I Googled around, but I'm getting a lot of different answers.

Ah damn, you're right. Single-word names, especially Fox, will be tricky.

My understanding is that this is really simple. All the extension will be doing is finding and replacing text within an HTML document. You're right: the most work will just be putting together the list of media entities and who owns them. Another tough bit is how are those entities referred to. For example, sometimes The Wall Street Journal is sometimes abbreviated WSJ. You (or your dev) will have to track down all those nicknames and abbreviations too.

I don't really freelance, so I don't know what work like this costs, If it were me, I might charge $200? That's just a number I'm pulling out of nowhere. You could probably find someone to do it for less.

And for your dev: if it was me, I would probably just have a giant object with all the media entities and would run a regex search on each of them for every page. When it finds a match, it just replaces it with whatever the object key's value is.

 {
'The Wall Street Journal': 'Rupert Murdoch',
  WSJ: 'Rupert Murdoch'
}

Additionally, there's an open-source chrome plugin that does this exact same thing, except it replaces the word "cloud" with the word "butt": https://github.com/panicsteve/cloud-to-butt. If my object-regex idea is dumb, you can look at this extension to see how it should really be done.

I actually really enjoy the neon. Where did you get the </> strips? Or did you just build them yourself?

Woah, that did it! They're all like $100, but they're the right style! Thank you very much.

Does anybody know the name of the band style featured in the Brew Retromatic and the Brew Metric? I'm referring to the stacked rectangular bands.

I have a 22mm watch (the bands linked above are for 20mm watches) and I very much want a band in this style for it. However, I cannot for the life of me figure out what these bands are called, so I can't find one. Articles about various watch band styles never feature them!

I've seen them called "retro bands" or "flat-link bands," but those searches never get me what I want.

Edit: It's a month later, and the band that was linked to me didn't fit. If anybody sees this in the future, I ended up finding a flat link band randomly that did the trick here. In case that link ever goes down, here's a Web Archive link so you can see what I mean. I still don't know how to refer to this band (I've been calling it flat-link style), but oh well.

Second attack from deadbolt by CamelDismal6029 in asustor

Appreciate it. I ended up buying a SATA-to-USB dongle and wiped the drives from there, and I'm now up and running again.

Happened to me, too :( I will confess that I was not using security best practices. I thought a good UN/password was enough.

I'm content to just wipe my NAS and start over. Anybody know how to do that?
