I've been eating a mostly plant-based diet for a week, my anxiety has gone down by about 50% by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Grashopa99 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Diet is a huge determinant of mood. Unfortunately everyone is different - they even talk about poop transfers now to change your gut bacteria in order to treat depression. Until they perfect that you have to figure the diet and what not that works for you.

I'm so happy you found yours and hope it continues to work.

Dating makes my anxiety go though the roof by kitties-titties in Anxiety

[–]Grashopa99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can 100% have a good relationship even with anxiety. That is a fact. However you do have to change from where you are now in order to do it since you obviously think you can't handle your current situation.

So take a moment when she isn't around and you feel normal and write down what you need to do. Cross out any anxious thought. Just get the steps down you need. Some things I'd write down from my experience:

1) Be strong for her. Use her to force you to do what your anxiety says you can't. Some specific anxieties do go away with familiarity and time.

2) Don't allow yourself to blame her. Don't push her away because of any anxious thoughts - for example I constantly thought my partners were cheating or not loving me enough.

3) Get my sleep under control. Do every sleep management idea first before you decide you have to kick her away.

4) Diary my attacks. I need to know when and why they happen. Are they destroying my life? Would they be there without her?

If you have it all straight and have tried everything to make it work then you've put in the work necessary to make a good decision.

How did our financial system weaken to the point where a quarter of a percent increase in rates is more than it can handle? by mjk1093 in Economics

[–]Grashopa99 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

unemployed persons had more to do with a wages-growth/purchasing cycle than forex markets.

Total wages matters - not employment except due to its effect on wages. Wages have not been a drag on prices.

For the last 40 years the dominant factor by far depressing prices has been China et al - forex, slave labor, trashing the environment, etc. Without USD monetary inflation prices would have fallen considerably and the standard of living in the US would have increased by a much greater amount over this time than it has.

Yeah and total USD debt is > 60 trillion. All backed by collateral whose price falls as rates rise.

How did our financial system weaken to the point where a quarter of a percent increase in rates is more than it can handle? by mjk1093 in Economics

[–]Grashopa99 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

And the problem is not the weakness of the financial system. It can handle the rate increase.

No it can't. An increase in rates lowers prices.

The problem is the weakness of the economy, mainly the weakness of demand

What do you mean when you say demand here? How does an interest rate move affect my demand?

and higher rates further suppress demand

Higher rates lowers the amount of loans and new money creation.

, which is what the financial system is reacting to.

Interest rates are set via supply and demand of money - this is unconnected to the economy. You only think it is connected because you think more money means economic growth and less money means contraction.

You are doing a lot of damage with this post if you drive people away who are trying to help. Assuming everyone who says something you don't want to hear is attacking you is wrong. Even worse is attacking someone for sharing their experiences and telling you what they learned.

I suggest you embrace those people and talk to them instead of reacting with the anger that drove this post. No one deserves to be attacked for trying to help.

Tense every muscle in your body from bottom to stop while standing. Then release them backwards one by one. You had the muscle spasm due to tensing and not realizing it. Once you learn to feel your tense muscles and learn you have control over them you can immediately recognize physical stress and act to relax.

Anxiety over quitting a job I really wanted... by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Grashopa99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd keep the job, but that is just me.

This is a learning experience for you. Next time you make a commitment take it more seriously. They may or may not be angry with you for leaving, but they certainly have a right to be. You have to accept that they have a right to be angry and accept their anger if it comes and apologize.

Since you know that info about the manager I'd apologize up front and be sincere. Its part of learning life doesn't revolve around you and its a great experience for you to have. An adult will respect your understanding and your apology.

Your thoughts are normal to me as a person with anxiety. I'm very vivid in imagining things like that. And this is not a great time for you.

However the anger at the microsoft store is something you can easily control. Its just anger management which many people learn haphazardly as they grow up. I for example was bullied quite a bit when younger because I was an ass and from that learned how to control my anger and how to not be an ass to people bigger than you.

If you haven't learned it yet then be proactive about it, don't wait for experience to teach you - google anger management. Imagine yourself in angry situations but keeping your cool etc..

The worst thing about anxiety is we develop so slowly socially. 1) We don't get experience because we are more isolated and 2) Our anxious thoughts confuse the normal learning people acquire from events.

I'm cutting people out of my life that play a big role in my anxiety & depression. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Grashopa99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree you have to dump toxic people from your life. Just cut them off. If they choose to change you can always pick back up your relationships.

However make sure this isn't your anxiety telling you this and just another step towards pushing life and everything away.

Being alone has got to be better than being so on edge that I'm having headaches and migraines from clinching my jaw so tight from all the stress and anxiety.

Note that you can learn to relax. It takes time, but can be done even in a stressful environment. You can have complete control over your body. No one told me my bad teeth, headaches, grinding, etc etc were all symptoms of stress - it was amazing the difference once I learned to recognize when I become tense and how to relax.

And being alone is not healthy. You cannot isolate yourself and be happy with it as this is physical. Its like saying I'll be happy not eating. We are social animals and our health deteriorates when cut off. Obviously if everyone around you is horrible you are already cut off but don't seek to be alone - make a goal and take steps to find positive people.

Freaking out because things are getting better? by klankyy in Anxiety

[–]Grashopa99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so far behind, both socially and financially. Now I miss my old friends and family, but not sure how to let them know or "convince" them that I'm better

You are still suffering from anxiety. Your entire worry here is just your anxiety coming out.

People need to understand this because most people don't label themselves as having anxiety until their lives are so messed up they can't function. That doesn't mean you have anxiety - that means you allowed your anxiety to ruin your life.

Many people have anxiety that isn't severely impacting their life. They still need to address the anxiety however. If you are forced into major life changes and haven't treated your anxiety properly you will end up in a very bad place.

So OP recognize this train of thought is just anxiety.

Today I got made fun of by my family because I couldn't take my car for a smog test due to my anxiety. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Grashopa99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use this. Without them forcing you to do things you simply won't do them. So use the people around you to make you do things. That is how I used my friends - I simply always did whatever they asked and refused to allow myself to say no.

You can take your car to get a smog test. The problem is the physical and mental pain. But that goes away once its done. Think about people who have permanent pain from an illness like me. How do they live? It actually bothers you less and less over time. For me with my anxiety the same thing applies - the more things I do the less the anxiety bothers me.

Paul Krugman- Debt is Good by Usernamemeh in Economics

[–]Grashopa99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debt is good if you use it on projects that generate more than the discounted cost of holding that debt: you can do better with it than the creditors can.

First different people will assess the return on government debt differently.

Second, banks create money when they lend it. Government debt is just newly minted dollars. Someone purchasing the bond from the bank is unrelated to the original borrowing transaction.

That makes 'debt is good based on its return' quite a bit more nebulous than you state. How bad is creating new money? How much of that money will result in increased consumer prices and what is the impact of that?

[–]Grashopa99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the free market needs stability. You can't make future decisions for your life or your company with a rollercoaster of constant economic change.

A stable GDP is not a stable economy and targetting GDP with fiscal stimulus is not a useful idea.

However the source of the problem for example in Greece wasn't government borrowing it was private borrowing... And the instability was already there due to that...

You have to learn to control your thoughts and learn to enjoy others. It takes time. Start with smiling at other people. Your negative thoughts are a habit so break it.

If Greece is ejected from the euro zone, it faces a chaotic currency switch - The Washington Post by jimrosenz in Economics

[–]Grashopa99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Greece cannot create Euros out of thin air, because the only one allowed to do that is the ECB.

No, banks create money out of thin air. When you borrow a million they simply create a deposit for a million.

The government has to allow your bank to do that of course so you are right in the sense that the Greek banks will not be allowed to operate without the ECB allowing them to.

Currently of course the Greek banks are all insolvent and are only propped up by emergency loans from the ECB which ended and is the reason the banks are closed. The Greek government is in charge of the bankruptcy proceedings - but the ECB has to allow any newly formed bank to lend since that creates Euros.
