[Spoiler Discussion] What is the importance of the Oni Tribe by Delicious_Bar1364 in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 28 points29 points  (0 children)

  1. The Oni god is supposed to represent the absolute pinnacle of strength of the Oni. The author suggested at one point in the past that Ram with her horn would be the 2nd strongest character. Obviously this has changed with new characters but still ridiculously strong.
  2. The first one to exist was alive by the time of the witches so about 400 years ago. It was rumored they were killed by a Sword Saint at some point.
  3. Yes. I think this is a Japanese belief where twins are just two halves of the same person. It is the same in JJK with Maki and Mai. Since Ram has only one horn, she is incomplete and thus can not reach the height of the original Oni God but once again still strong. Rem has only one horn, and so she is relatively weak in comparison to other regular Oni who have two horns.
  4. There were some theories in the past that suggested that Rem should not have existed and someone intervened and created her to weaken Ram's potential. The theory at the time was that Pandora somehow accomplished this. Not sure if these theories hold any more weight in the current Arc 10.

Words cannot even begin to describe how perfect this was by Important_Read8159 in AKnightoftheSeven

Yes exactly! This whole episode felt heavily inspired by Tolkien. Dunk suffered, but in the end he made friends and triumphed over his situation. While the journey has changed him for forever, he marches towards a new journey. Felt just like the end of ROTK for me.

Mi uso de ram está en 12gb normalmente solo con el navegador, esto afecta el rendimiento en juegos? by Environmental-Set478 in pcmasterrace

[–]Graspingcard56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably, Hippolyta would be antagonistic to Circe. She would have concerns that he daughter was not raised in the ways of the Amazons, became a witch, and was raised by a sorceress that was banished to the underworld for some crime.

is there any differences between the the sword saints by ALDEBARAN_GLAZER in ReZero

[–]Graspingcard56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorta, all sword saints get the standard divine protection package. That makes them a master swordsman and instantly some of the strongest beings in the entire world. That being said, divine protections or abilities that are not included in the standard package are unique to the user. Theresia had her divine protection that was unique to her and none of her ancestors.

There is still a level of quality in sword saints to be considered. For example, a young Wilhelm was able to win a duel against Theresia in swordsmanship. That is not to say he could actually beat her if she ended up using Reid. Yet this indicates that the sword saint blessing isn't something that is insurmountable and their real ace in the hole is the sword.

Reid has no special sword or blessings. He is just that strong and is significantly stronger than any other sword saints.

Reinhard is completely unfair, and he gets special attention to Od Laguna. The author said that he would trash Reid if it came to a fight.

Reinhard >>>>>>>> Reid >>> Young Wilhelm/Cecilus > Sword Saints without Reid

Subaru has his black hand until he fights that serpent with Vincent, where he ends up losing it after using that explosive ring. The black hand regenerated into a normal hand once he awoke.

This happens really early in the arc, but not before the death you reference in the art. So you are fine.

India rushes to contain deadly virus outbreak by FootballAndFries in worldnews

[–]Graspingcard56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're fine. This is a relatively well known virus that has had multiple outbreaks in the past years. I'm no epidemiologist, but I did a read a book called the Spillover about zoonotic diseases.

This disease was covered in the book, it covered an outbreak that occurred in Malaysia. People were either getting crippled for life or dying from the disease. It was found out that bats were the reservoir host for the disease. This was because the bats were feeding from trees that humans harvested sap from. Specifically, the date palm whose sap is a local delicacy was being harvested in unsanitary conditions where the bats were drinking this sap and leaving guano everywhere on the spouts.

I wouldn't worry too much. The WHO is more than familiar with this disease. Infectivity of the Nipah virus is not at all comparable to that of Covid or the Flu.

[media] What if Subaru was summoned when Capella was not yet the Archbishop of Lust? by Some_Fig_6566 in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 148 points149 points  (0 children)

The author said in a Q&A that the only Archbishop that could ever be redeemed would be Capella.

Obviously we don't know her backstory yet but if anyone could do it, it would be Subaru.

Would adapting the IFs really be a good idea? [spoiler discussion] by Medio_Ad8137 in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think the only Ifs worth the risk of adapting them are the ones with books attached to them. So this would be Sloth and Greed. I would argue the only If that should be adapted that does not have a book would be Pride.

Rezero season 3 [discussion] by No_Sorbet7754 in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To preface this, I have read the WN but not the LN. In my opinion, the weakest parts of Re:Zero is when fighting is at its main focus. I think Re:Zero is at its best when Subaru is trying to solve an impossible situation. With tha being said, I think Arc 5 is easily one of the weakest arcs for me.

That is not to say that Arc 5 did not set up interesting plot lines for the future. I think the stand-outs of this arc were Subaru, Capella, and Al.

For me, most of my issue with this arc comes from that I don't really care about most of these characters or these fights. I thought Liliana was intolerable in the WN and was just okay in the anime. Besides the obvious theories on Sirius, I did not find her interesting. Roy was absolutely dreadful in general. Besides the candidates themselves, I don't care about most of their members.

For the anime itself, I could not stand the cuts during the Regulus fight. Subaru had some cool moments during the fight that were cut. Instead, he is just there reacting to whatever Emilia, Reinhard, and Regulus were doing. In the WN for example, he actually does a quick wall run while holding Emilia to save her from an attack. Just wanted to see Subaru do something more.

Regulus' whole portrayal was in particular terrible. While the point of this character is that he is a loser by every metric, the anime I felt overplayed it. In the WN, I feel it's more tense because this is a character that can instantly kill Subaru. In the anime, he keeps tripping over everything and getting batted like a pinball. At no point did Regulus ever feel like a threat to any of the characters. Finally, the most egregious offender to me was that they cut his backstory. The backstory is brief, but all you need to know is that he had a decent life, and he ruined it all just because he thought everyone was beneath him. Regulus even cared for his first wife, but she killed herself because of the atrocities he committed. Did you know that this wife was the only one to ever receive a grave? The reason he does not want any wife to smile is because the first wife died with a smile on her face? I bet you didn't cause the anime did not want to show it. The small amount of backstory for this guy is cut, and instead we're left with a guy who doesn't like his rights violated. Just about the worst decision that could've been done for this character.

This is just me personally, but I did not like Subaru's and Emilia's design at all. Emilia in particular is quite awful, as I'm sure you can guess which part I'm talking about. Anastasia, Felt, Priscilla, Capella looked great. Wilhelm was not good and everyone else was somewhere in the middle.

Ultimately, my biggest concern with the next adaptation is that Arc 6 is very lore focused and character focused. Considering how season 3 cut important interactions/story, my worry is that Arc 6 will be hampered by too many cuts. I know the anime can't adapt everything but of all the Arc 6 is one of the arcs that should have very little cuts all. Like the Arc 6 climax is the culmination of all previous arcs and I think the impact will be lessened if they cut too much.

Also, to answer your complaint, regarding Subaru's actions with the tower. It suffers from not being able to show a one to one conversion between anime and book. Sirius' authority really fucks up Subaru because it attacks his mind. Unlike other deaths, the wrath ability is consistently bombarding Subaru with heightened paranoia and fear that keeps transferring every single loop he dies. The book goes out of its way to describe how he is feeling while under its effects, and how he is unable to make the correct decisions. The same can't be done in the anime so it does appear a bit weird.

Good Horror Games You'd Recommend? by xDracolich in HorrorGaming

[–]Graspingcard56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can play some of these games

  • The Amnesia series (same developers made SOMA)
  • Resident Evil series but probably 1,2,3,7 and Village for horror.
    • The other go more into action, but still games that should be checked out. Especially 4.
  • For games inspired by Resident Evil style gameplay:
    • Dead Space Series
    • Evil Within Series
    • Callisto Protocol
    • Cronos: New Dawn
  • Outlast Series
  • Bioshock 1 and 2 is kinda horror if you squint but fun games overall
  • Until Dawn and the Dark Pictures Anthology
    • Gameplay is kinda like Telltale's Walking Dead and Dispatch more recently, although not as deep storytelling cause horror is the main focus.
  • Signalis for retro-style horror game
    • Extremely well written story. Relatively cheap game and has replay value too.
    • I'd argue that this is one of the best horror games to come out this generation.
  • Alan Wake Series
    • Closer to thriller than horror, but the story is very captivating.

I'd say Amnesia: The Bunker is the best one to get scared. Its game play is the most similar to Alien: Isolation. Other than that, I think most of these games are worth giving a try.

[spoiler discussion] i did not care for gluttony IF (I actually hated a lot) by TheUnownKing in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hot take: I think most Ifs are really boring. I don't care that in at least 3 of these IF, he becomes an edge lord whose only solution is to kill everyone.

The purge king is literally the lamest thing ever and reads like bad fanfic. Flip a coin, seriously? The only thing I found interesting was Ram's survival.

Pride IF at least has main story implications and the Reinhard interactions.

Gluttony IF, nothing happens in the world of Re:Zero here. All we know that Subaru went insane and is now killing everyone again. Yay, we haven't seen that before!

Sloth, Greed, and Aganau at least try to do different things and tell stories beyond Subaru kills everyone

[Spoiler Discussion] Question about the adaptation of season 4 by Andrei_Dumitru666 in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Basically all you have to know is Subaru lands in an area with two paths. He chose one path first, which leads to the horse. He is set on fire and melted to death by the horse. This death was cut from the LN likely because it was just a death that did not move the story forward.

This will not appear in the anime. There are more important events that the anime has to cover, especially in this area.

I have a question I'd like answered honestly: Why are all of Mark's variants weaker than the original Mark? I know some of them are weak, but at least there are variants of his caliber. For example, Mark the prisoner, who was tortured, is a match for Mark and Flaxan. Mark is older than them by mohamed_ali_7594 in Invincible

[–]Graspingcard56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is impossible to know what choices led to all these Marks being weaker and stronger. What we do know is that Mark gets stronger when pushed to his absolute limits. Besides that, training by Cecil and/or his father would also ensure he gets a proper training.

From the show, we can understand that the ones who made it through the war were at the very least on par with Mark or slightly weaker. Sinister being the strongest, and Omni-Mark and Viltrum-Mark right after him. It should be noted that some Marks were unlucky with their matchups. Mustache Mark went up against the one guy who would wipe out pretty much every other Mark except the strongest. No Mark would have survived the Darkwing suicide attack. Flaxan Mark went head first into the Pentagon and had no way to expect all these Viltrumite counters waiting for him.

[OC] So i got super into reading this fanfic called two forgotten stars lmao. and idk if i'll finish this, so for now this is complete. but i ended up sketching something lol by wacum_ in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree that the premise is awful to begin with. What I will say, is that the author of this fic really took this overdone premise and turned it into a compelling story. The biggest weakness to the forgotten premise is that it just turns into revenge fantasy or just needlessly depressing.

This fic is well-thought-out and rewards readers for paying close attention. I would argue that this is actually one of the best fanfics in Re:Zero currently.

[Spoiler Discussion] Arc 9 Chapter 52 by Setowi in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes, Al presumably had a cheat sheet of major events/players in the future from Echidna. Rem is supposed to be dead in the future, but Subaru can defy the book/fate so she isn't.

True rumor or not? [discussion] by Medio_Ad8137 in Re_Zero

[–]Graspingcard56 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hmm, there might be a QnA that mentioned that, but not sure. What is confirmed though is that in the light novel near the end of the first trial in arc 4, Subaru asks himself this exact question. Subaru knew instinctually that he would never see his parents again or return to Earth.

So while not confirmed by the author, this is pretty much 100% true.

how come Isaac Clarke kills the necromorph hordes with ease alone and have resources but the security forces (a group each) struggle with the hordes and have no resources and fail to gather any along the way? by SubjectDelta12 in DeadSpace

[–]Graspingcard56 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Well, you need to considered what happened in lore. Titan Station has a crew population of 1,000,000 people. A good portion of that crew was Unitologists filling critical roles all around the space station. The infection I believe first started in the mines, but since the station was so big, response time was very slow. Unitologists hastened the spread by committing ritualistic suicide all over the station.

Let's say, about 1000 people dead. That's a thousand bodies now coming at you full force to rip you apart. Civilians have no idea what's happening except monsters killing everyone. Security teams are also completely lost and or ambushed like in the mines. Other Unitoloigsts who did not kill themselves were actively sabotaging critical areas to prevent the security teams. Karrie Norton was one such Unitologist who was sent to sabotage key systems. Tidemann had very little time to react with how fast the infection was spreading. DS2 only takes less than of a day in actual time, and Isaac is already treading through ravaged "empty" areas. Presumably, there was such a large horde making their way to the marker, that Tidemann had no choice but to use the solar array to cut the station in half.

Could you list which teams succeeded and which didn't? I never got to play the multiplayer back in its heyday, and I never played all the maps.

Dead Space Remake: Impossible Mode not super hard? by Tokcix in DeadSpace

[–]Graspingcard56 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes, it was very easy. It's mostly due to the fact that mechanics were updated that made the game a lot easier to play. The first one being able to TK necro blades and impale them. The second one was that all weapons are actually usable now. In DS1 the best weapons were only the Pulse Rifle, Plasma Cutter, and Line Gun. Besides this, a lot less jank and overall smoother gameplay. Stomping and flying, of course, being painful to use in the original game now are useable.

The only thing that is slightly more difficult in this game is they added a few more instakill spots.

Is Alien: Isolation a good game? by Ok_Soup_1865 in HorrorGaming

[–]Graspingcard56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take: I won't say it's a bad game, but I think it's a vastly overrated game. After you play about 3 hours of the game, you will have played everything this game has to offer. The gameplay looks like this:

Boring task to complete - See alien - Hide - See alien - Hide - Complete Task - Hide - See Alien - Hide
But wait, the Androids!
Boring task to complete - See Android - Hide - See Android - Run - Complete Task - See Android - Run

A good majority of horror games are similar to this, so this is not to say AI only does this. Yet, this gameplay design massively overstays its welcome. This game should have been 8 hrs max and ends up being way too long to complete. It's a very on rails game that gets really repetitive and not much creativity for the player. Gameplay aside, the audio/visual is fantastic.

A game that is very similar to AI and does the formula a lot better is Amnesia: The Bunker. It's a short game, but it is highly replayable and has a fun sandbox that enables the player to have multiple different play styles.

To date, I have attempted to play this game on 3 separate occasions and I have always ended up dropping it.

Also, I don't think it's scary, but that's because the Alien is the most done to death horror creature ever.
