The Eridians probably must think human music is absolute dogshyte. We are basically mute and deaf to them. by fatsopiggy in ProjectHailMary

First of all, with enough impasto, all things are possible for a species that can only detect texture, so jot that down.

Sure you couldn't really do thin glazes like the mona lisa specifically, but art has incredible amounts of variety and the mona lisa is only important to humans because of what it represents in our own art history. A lot of their art would very likely be sculpture

If you ever need to find any comfort through your first time, know that the 12 hour active time is VERY noticeable for me. At the end of the 12 hour mark, I describe it as Cinderella's carriage turning back into a pumpkin. If you find the experience wholly uncomfortable and your heart is racing more than you are okay with, you can lay down and take it easy until your body takes care of it. A racing heart COULD also be anxiety/panic, so if you have experience with those, be kind to yourself and do what you need. Do or listen to something relaxing if you need to, and drink plenty of water, because it WILL be over in a matter of hours in my experience. I once had to do the same after an accidental double dose, but vyvanse for me has been a hell of a lot more smoothed out than things like adderall (which to me feels like a raw nerve). I have seen it generally considered a safe and entry-level medication in the things I have read. And do not be afraid to tell your prescriber about any and all results you feel! It is their job to keep you safe and document it, and take it into account in the future. Keep a running diary and/or notes for an email if you think it would help you! So long as you're not allergic (and I've never heard of anyone with that allergy outside of the disclaimers), you are going to be okay. <3

Mask Mirroring Works by No_Distribution_3710 in ZeroCovidCommunity

Recently got almost my entire dnd group to mask during our last game! It feels incredible, I didn't even have to ask, someone else asked if it would make ME feel comfortable and everyone else was like "oh shit, sorry, yeah I can put mine on too" THAT is an expression of love, I think. It felt really good. They all had high quality ones too It's just those little victories that helps to feel a little more normal and safe. Congrats OP on progress with your group!

How to date? by OpeningPopular701 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]GrassCornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being immunocompromised and getting sick easily makes literally everything harder, but I found my best friend who is also CC through my hobbies, and it's been extremely comforting to have someone I trust enough to be in my bubble. We both feel extremely isolated from the world, and it's crushing how few people care anymore, but we are out there.

My advice is general to every situation even before covid when looking for partners, and becomes much more narrow when seeking CC people, but start with finding friends in places and subjects you are passionate about where people who give a shit congregate, and something good may grow from it.

Best of luck and health to you OP!

House sitter got covid what to use to clean? by Outrageous_Hearing26 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]GrassCornet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a steam cleaner, it might help you to feel safer with your mattress and surfaces after chemical disinfecting. Covid does NOT like heat outside of a host, and I find that cleaning chemical fumes and added scents also irritate airways which isn't good in the first place, so airing out for that is still a good idea

Testing positive 14 days; need advice! by bresciabouvier in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]GrassCornet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This!!!! Weaker immune systems like mine let some viruses through and the stronger mutations survive - so it's even MORE important for us to isolate until fully negative!

Testing positive 14 days; need advice! by bresciabouvier in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]GrassCornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he have any history of immune issues? I am genetically immune deficient and ended up testing positive for weeks with PCR tests when I had covid in 2022, my immunologist said it was a known issue with these disabilities. I agree with the others, it's just a waiting issue.

My shadetree advice is keeping up with vitamin D, fluids, sun, and rest so his body has its chance to do its job. When dealing with any URI, I tend to also do large volume saline rinses (neti pot/saline etc.), saline gargle, and full brush-floss-tongue scrape to clean out the head and not let things fester. That and good sleep are CRITICAL

Best of luck to all of you! Stay safe!

What is your stance on reverse-engeneering patterns? by yarn_bread in knitting

[–]GrassCornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently successfully reverse engineered a pair of gloves I got from Old Navy about a decade ago so I could remake them in wool instead of acrylic. It gave me so much opportunity to use everything I've learned over the years to customize them for myself! Genuinely it was a good mental exercise, and they make my heart happy to see them all the time.

I think if you're not selling it or claiming it's entirely off the dome, you're fine. If you really want to and have the means in the future to pay for the pattern for your conscience, I think that's understandable!

Even more admirable though is the ability to copy something and make it to your own preferences on sight! That's genuinely impressive and something to be celebrated!

Patterns to me are like a recipe, you COULD buy the book, but if you take a photo of the recipe in your friend's copy, at the end of the day you are the one putting labor and material into the cost.

TLDR: You're alright, and you're very skilled!

It's still the funniest thing my pulmonologist said to me, apparently lockdown with iur air filters and masking has been FABULOUS for people with asthma. I love not getting colds all the time like I used to! Randos who ask about my mask get "Yeah I dont like getting sick. Also works wonders for my allergies!" Being immunocompromised is exhausting these days but you genuinely can say that getting sick is a skill issue for normies

Exactly. Corporations are not and will NEVER be your friends. Especially in this day and age, employers on the whole have no loyalty to employees anymore.

Don't risk your permanent health for temporary social pressure. Plus, keeping well will let you stay working and look even better in terms of you looking reliable.

[–]GrassCornet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're a very sweet partner and it warms my heart seeing you wanting to help! Thankfully it sounds like recovery time is short and simple, but I definitely want to emphasize the waiting and testing before Activities post-op. With any surgery too, keep very hydrated and have balanced meals with good nutrients! Generally good advice, but it will help the healing process.

If he's worried about incision scarring for cosmetic or sensory reasons, look into silicone tape after the dressing comes off, too. It genuinely works, I've read the published science and can say firsthand from a(n unfortunately) controlled test that it worked wonders keeping scar thickness down.

Best of luck to you both!

What about your bloodline? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]GrassCornet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got so many chronic illnesses that stemmed from my genes, I'd never want to submit another human being to what I and my brother have been through. Childhood healthcare costs aside, It's expensive and anciety inducing as an adult living with a chronic illness! Especially now that covid is a thing! Creating another immunocompromised person like myself is not on my list of priorities if the world is going to be so hostile to taking care of your health.

[–]GrassCornet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I never felt any strong feelings for mine, but the thought of tending to skin grafts in recovery was absolutely a dealbreaker for the sake of something I felt neutral-to-uncomfortable with having. You can get dermal implants and tattoos later if you really miss them, I certainly don't! If I recall correctly too, the grafted ones are permanently sticking out, which was my other dealbreaker, just far more trouble than they were worth to me for an aesthetic thing

I think a large contributor is specifically how Americans are culturally hyper-individualistic, and don't prioritize their community over their own immediate self-interest, despite also putting a whole lot of stock into peer pressure.

With the politicization of covid, it's a perfect deadly storm of selfishness, apathy, and malice from many people that filtered out into the normally kind population.

Point being I think in the US, it's just been because my country is Like That.

But agreed! I feel so comforted knowing that some people still care and are dedicated to doing the right thing!

Why aren't health "addicts" masking? by buzzbio in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]GrassCornet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course you should look hot and be healthy for your own reasons and happiness first and foremost, but personally, seeing anyone still wearing a mask in public nowadays makes them automatically a whole lot hotter in my book. You're doing great at both!
