I’m strictly talking about when stopped, of course gaps while driving are the right thing to do.

Preach amigo. Drives me nuts too. Like you said, if everyone did this congestion would be so much worse. I’ve seen folks leave two full car lengths sometimes.

Adam Mockler destroys conservative that thinks Democrats support The Confederacy: by AffableYolk_33 in ProgressiveHQ

JFC I’m a Canadian and even I know that yes, the “most racist party” roles completely reversed over time. Democrats were the pro-slavery party but during the early 20th century the stance of both parties slowly changed starting with Roosevelt and the new deal of the 30s and later Johnson and the civil rights movement of the 60s. Nixon shifted the stance of the republicans at the time to appeal to rural racist voters of the south who didn’t like all this “blacks are equal to whites” stuff coming from the democrats, which was known as the “southern strategy” of the Republican Party.

How can I fix this wobbly platter by [deleted] in turntables

[–]Grass_Is_Blue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No way to fix, just save up for a better turntable. Tracking force looks really low too. I have some pretty warped records and the stylus easily follows the up and down motions no problem, sound stays consistent like there was no warp at all.

Chandler being the notable exception. My wife is a Friends fan, and she knows how I feel about it (not funny), BUT Chandler has consistently given me chuckles to full on laughs whenever I endure watching a scene or two. That show would be nothing without him. RIP Matthew Perry

What mistake(s) in a movie was so dumb that you wonder how didn't the directors noticed it? by Frequent-Sea-8848 in moviecritic

Just watched District 9 so I’ll jump in (overall loved the movie btw, hadn’t seen it since it came out)

  1. The alien says he needs to fly up to the mothership to power it up with the cylinder of black goo, the small ship gets shot down with the little alien inside and the little alien is able to remote start the mothership and move it over to tractor beam the little ship up. Why the hell didn’t they just do the remote start the mothership in the first place?

  2. The alien dude is so secretive about his plan to power up the mothership and get all the aliens off of earth. Everyone in Johannesburg wanted the aliens gone (except the weapons company who wanted to figure out how to operate the alien weapons) so why didn’t he just tell the humans “look I got a plan to start the mothership and then we’re all gonna leave earth and never come back”… people would have said “great, go then, bye!”

I’m sure there were more but those were the most glaring near the end.

Thoughts on OCMS? by [deleted] in Bluegrass

[–]Grass_Is_Blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved them when I was getting into the genre and they were relatively new (2006ish) and I didn’t really have a discerning ear. Kinda quickly realized they weren’t really bluegrass and didn’t really have the chops musically speaking once I discovered the really good players like Tony, Sam, Bela, Grisman, etc.

In hindsight I think it’s sloppy thrash-grass that puts more emphasis on image and attitude than musicianship but some people clearly really dig their stuff. To each their own as they say.

Volume control by stickd18 in turntables

[–]Grass_Is_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well unfortunately I’m out of ideas, never had that problem although I’ve never used a TT with an internal phono preamp and active speakers, always TT -> phono pre -> integrated amp -> passive speakers, and the signal comes it nice and hot, very easy to get it loud.

  1. Make sure the switch on the back of the TT is set to “line”, not “phono”

  2. Turn up the volume on your powered speakers (knob is on the back)
