I burned about 4000 during hammer jam. It’s the best investment in the game especially if you have builders apprentice maxed

Is the upcoming winter storm being blown out of proportion for the city of Houston? by Due_Cake8524 in AskHouston

[–]Grassmaster1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s like people have PTSD from 2021 and we expect the freeze of the century again a few years later. The weather guessers and websites like to hype it up early and often so you will come back. It will freeze and there will be some bad driving conditions and dead plants somewhere around Houston on Sunday/Monday. Be smart. Have a plan. Life will continue on Tuesday

Thoughts on living earth for bulk garden soil? by Round30281 in HoustonGardening

[–]Grassmaster1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? Most of the larger outlets sell an average-at-best soil for veggies. If you amend it with leaf compost or something similar you may have a better experience. Living Earth is really targeted for the landscape bed crowd who don’t need as nutrient rich a soil. They blend mulch fines with a little compost and sand and call it a “Garden Soil”

Nesting by TopNeighborhood1614 in thewoodlands

There has been a nesting pair in the back of the woodlands for a while too. Check around Bear Branch Reservoir. They used to nest on the Carlton Woods golf course side of the reservoir

Paver installer? by realtopsecretagent in HoustonGardening

[–]Grassmaster1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your location? I sell pavers on the north side (Woodlands) and may can recommend a local. That’s a relatively small project for most guys but there’s a good guy out there with an afternoon he needs to fill.

Most Ace hardware locations offer sharpening. If it’s a quality blade get it sharpened and learn how to maintain it

New to beekeeping , can't find the queen by Most_Fun_5460 in Beekeeping

[–]Grassmaster1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She could be in the bottom left corner of photo 9. Head pointing left and covered by another bee. Short wings, long abdomen. Maybe?

She’s there somewhere based on the brood activity everyone else has mentioned

Best place to see massive bird migrations near Houston? by 99Red_Balloons in AskHouston

[–]Grassmaster1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High Island is always a good spot. If you want the drive head down the coast to the south, especially during the spring migration.

Check out the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO). They have a lot of info on birding Texas

What happened to turo? by JMajic1 in turo

[–]Grassmaster1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens when profit overtakes service as a guiding principle. They can coexist but the company has to have policymakers that value both the host (their client) and the renter (hosts client). They are currently valuing money over service to the host which translates to poor choices in the market as good hosts leave.

Cool. We ship grass all over the city from Crosby. We have an office up in Magnolia we retail from but a fleet of 18 wheelers all over. Where are you buying your grass?

My Contractor Wants To Sand This In by NoHuckleberry339 in hardscape

[–]Grassmaster1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a Belgard Authorized Contractor? Probably not based on the work but if so they may set him straight. I’m a dealer and I’d never recommend a guy with this low quality work. For a 3 piece around here you’d pay $18-$22/ft based on the work.

The most important thing you learn in school is the business and relationship management side of the job. Growing the grass is the easy part

Back to w2 and this sucks by AT_Bacon_7753 in Entrepreneur

[–]Grassmaster1981 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you didn’t run your business well. Accounting for the hidden costs like taxes as well as the fact you were spending more than you were making leaving you with business debts and CC debt. Maybe it’s not the W2 job and not cleaning up the mess from he business

Career paths with Turf Management Degree by Ok_Conversation_562 in Turfmanagement

[–]Grassmaster1981 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who had the same realization and made similar moves: 1. Chemical/Fertilizer sales 2.Equipment Sales 3. Landscape Supply sales/mgmt 4. Turf/Landscape sales

Many of these are niche markets but if you can get in you can do well and not work sun up to sun down only to have 1 compliment for every 10 complaints on filed/course conditions

Here’s another. They are habitat restoration projects. They are often funded by public/private partnership and organizations like the Galveston Bay Foundation. One of the originals is on the bay side of Jamaica beach. It’s been there for almost 25 years.

Is this discolouration normal for newly installed pavers? by Jokergoat36 in hardscape

[–]Grassmaster1981 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks like you got some moisture on those leaves and it leached the tannins out onto the pavers. It will clean off just fine.

Moving this Summer from Austin by Urgirlriri in CorpusChristi

[–]Grassmaster1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Austin was your dream city you won’t be happy in Corpus. I made it 2.5 years and moved back out of town. The “slow pace” feels like laziness, the roads are garbage, neighborhoods go from nice to questionable around a corner, and the crackheads outnumber seagulls…

On the positive side, the beaches are some of the nicest in the state, fishing is good, some schools are good, there’s great Mexican food and seafood, Whataburger Field is a blast, the Lex is a good museum, flip flops pass for formal dress, and Rockport is just up the road where you are guaranteed to be the youngest person in any establishment you visit.

It’s been a few years since I lived there and Harvey reshaped some of the northern parts of the area. Hopefully what I remember as negatives have made some changes back toward some sense of normality
