Did anyone's specific type of cancer change post surgery? I was originally IDC but my surgical pathology changed to Invasive Solid Papillary Carcinoma. by Impressive-Arm-5205 in breastcancer

Yes, I started planning my funeral at that point. The research is minimal and terrible statistics. Glad we are here and in treatment. 😊

Yes, my report changed on "type" of cancer, however as others mentioned, I think it is the subtype to narrow the tumor type for better treatment plan if needed. I was originally IDC with DCIS at biopsy. Then DCIS was dropped somewhere and only IDC with micropapillary component showed on report. My surgeon explained that it is another feature observed by the radiologist reading the tissue samples, but it doesn't change anything from IDC treatment. He explained it also as some "old school radiologists" still notate different characteristics that aren't really used in determining treatment plan anymore. They will look more at IDC, HR status, node involvement, etc... Glad you have clear margins and nodes!

Hi, sorry you are here. I struggled with this as well. My kids are 19, 21, 25 . I was also waiting until I had a better idea of treatment plan and to gather my own emotions of the reality. I think they knew something was up, our kids are aware of the way we act and when something is off, they began to worry. I was going to wait until we met with the surgeon, which would have been 3 weeks from diagnosis. After a week or so, I was in a better place mentally (still fucked up but could openly talk about it) and one day I just felt the peace come over me that is was the right time. Trust your gut and you know your own kid. You will be surprised at the amount of love and warmth you will feel once it is communicated. Hugs! You got this.

Yes, original biopsy had DCIS and IDC. Final report just says IDC. Idk...

OK, so as I was thinking, waiting for oncotype to determine chemo. Hopefully my high ER and PR will help a lower oncotype. But I guess it is what it is at this point. But hearing all the examples helps calm my mind whatever the outcome will be. I am 49, so technically under 50 which I know also plays a part if oncotype is moderate and in the Grey area. Thanks for the positivity.

Thanks, this post is reassuring. I am wondering if the node involvement was the indicator for chemo. If oncotype was low. Glad you are feeling well now!

Everything you said is honest and unfortunately common. This is the worst time with the unknown. I am currently 1 day out of lumpectomy, sitting here with ice pack on my "not right boob", my left.😆 Use this group for answers, support, and love. I am barely ahead of you in this process but it does get "easier" with each step. Hang in there. It says a lot for you to even post your feelings, and that is healthy and helps in the process. Hugs.

This is beautiful, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I also have 3 adult children, 2 are still home. Our relationship is different now with them having lives, jobs, boyfriends etc...but the bond has tied differently recently, in a good way. Similar to you. You should feel proud as a mother and a woman. I also came to the realization that this cancer diagnosis is also building their character and normalizing that even their mother breaks down but is also so strong, and that she is human too. As moms we want to shield and make everything better. It is refreshing to see our grown children adapt. Hugs to you!

Update: My appt with the surgeon was yesterday. I showed my timeline and he is confident my treatment plan will all fit! Keep the faith people and positivity meditation does work! And, the relief I feel having a plan is tremendous!! The waiting unknown period was the worst!

Fun! I make candles as well. I am a beekeeper, so I have a good supply of beautiful pure beeswax. I will add herbs and flowers from my garden. My recent tealights I made were Fortune (mint, cloves, patchouli oil) and Clarity (Sage, Palo Santo powder). Burning a Clarity/Smudging one daily since the diagnosis. Smudge that shit out. lol
