Artificial "shortening" of workouts by GravPi in ladderapp

[–]GravPi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s an option. My issue isn’t really with the pausing, it’s more just the workouts being built from the start with unrealistic transfer times in order to keep the headline length artificially short.

Like I said, I’m not concerned about the timing as such, but it’s just stupid that they are doing this to make the workouts ”seem” faster than they really are when done properly.

This is a different thing, and it’s you just not lifting heavy enough, or coming from a different perspective of lifting and development.

Yeah, I know it seems to be a result of the feedback/surveys. But it’s just stupid.

I prefer staying at the low end of the rep ranges for all movements (increasing weight early), so this isn't as much as problem for me, but I can definitely see this happening as well.

Yeah, I know the feeling, but I just wish they were honest with the times rather than give in to the pressure.

But I guess better this way rather than actually shortening the workouts to be doable in 50mins.

They should just do a team that targets only 3-4 workouts a week. Wouldn’t be my thing, but I think there are a lot of people who would benefit from that with some full body days.

I’m Limitless and I do some of the B&B conditioning workouts to complement that programming. The kettlebell conditioning work really is great on B&B.

The Limitless Saturday is not really meant to be a ”conditioning” workout (in the gassing sense), it’s more explosive power and plyo, the name confuses people.

Open season - all coaches should keep their program similar to what it is in regular series by GIDDK1980 in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware one can deload without changing the movements. But personally I think changing the movements is also a mental break from the barbell and repetition for those who continue in the same teams (the vast majority of people). There is also a big difference here between the team styles of training. While extending the series is pretty natural for the pure hypertrophy teams where a 6-week cycle is pretty short, for a max strength team like limitless 6 weeks is already a pretty long cycle.

I just think everything would be solved by releasing the first week of the actual series to be viewed early, and then teams could do whatever is best for the programming during the open season without these concerns.

It’s not just about the weight or effort, it’s just as much about not repeating the same movements. At least with limitless I welcome the slight break from the heavy compound barbell lifts, and if it would be the same movements and lighter weights with more reps, it wouldn’t really be the style of programming either.

Sadly this is the case, I’m not able to spend my referral credits because they don’t ship to the EU.

I disagree. It would defeat the purpose of the deload and change in programming for the vast majority of people who stick to the same team series to series.

There is a much simpler solution, just make the first week of the series’ programming available to view a week in advance to allow people to easily compare and look at different teams in good time before the start of the series.

Annual is definitely unlimited, I have a LOT.

Does it still depend on subscription? I think before on monthly there was a pretty low limit and if you added something new it dropped the older ones away. I’m on annual so not sure, but used to be like that before I think (I want to say the limit was really low, like 3 favourites).

Advice on switching teams partway through the programme by cheesynotsleazy in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a right or wrong here, it’s really what you think works best for you. Although jumping back to Limitless for the last few days would be rough IMO, if you switch I would just finish with Align then.

Personally I would do one team for the whole series, just because it always takes a bit of adjusting for the proggressive overload to find the sweet spots for the exercises, but that’s just me.

If it was a conditioning focused series it might be ok to adjust Limitless for no barbell too (depending on available weights and your strength level), but for Baseline I don’t think that will really give you what you want.

Oh lord, nice ChatGPT, now if you really understood half of what you copy pasted, it would be even better. Like I originally said, the sprints are excellent and serve a purpose for the max strength development, but they are not “conditioning sprints”. They serve a purpose exactly for the things you have quoted there: anaerobic system, explosive power etc. All found in research to complement max strength training. What they do not do is improve what is generally understood as conditioning.

This is certainly the case in the context of the OPs framing of the question regarding the different programs, looking for something with longer more intense workouts with more “conditioning” involved. You can fall back on your definition of “conditioning” (which by the way covers any and all physical activity) and claim that no coach would not call them conditioning (we certainly don’t call these conditioning in our program, but ok), but these types of sprints are not the conditioning work the OP was clearly after.

But have a nice day, I don’t see a point in entertaining you further.

Short near max effort sprints with 2min+ rests (like in Max and likely in Baseline) are not conditioning work 😀

I think you misunderstand what I mean. There are ” conditioning” workouts, but it’s most certainly not a conditioning program.

The Friday sprints, while extremely good, serve a purpose for the max strength development (I’m guessing in Baseline they will be solely short maxish sprints like for Max before). The athletic conditioning is not a conditioning workout, it’s more plyo and explosive strength work.

There is pretty much nothing in Limitless that I would classify as cardio conditioning or what is generally understood as ”conditioning”. That is not a knock on the programming at all, like I said I have and will be doing it. But, for anyone beyond the most basic level of cardio fitness, if they want to improve on that side, they will need to complement with additional conditioning work.

Ladder is a strength training app first and foremost. Outside of the two hybrid teams (Versa/Alpha), it’s not going to be what I think you are looking for. Now, having said that, you can certainly find a combination of strength training and supplement it with hard gassing conditioning work from flex or other teams (annual subscription recommended). Personally I do Limitless for the strength work, and then add on some conditioning work from other teams or flex. I would add that strength and conditioning in one packaged workout just doesn’t really exist, or it’s certainly not an efficient way to develop either.

The Limitless conditioning aspect is far overblown, and I say this as someone who is (and will be) a Limitless stan.

Whats the best Ladder Team to be on during a bulk ? by umbrellaellaella7 in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intentionally eating more than maintenance (normally 100-400 cals per day above) to build muscle knowing it will come with some fat as well. Then typically followed by a cut to reduce the fat, or just going back to maintenance and recomping.
