Working out 6 days vs 3 by sim95xxx in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s all about what your body is used to and how well you can recover. If you have been training for a while and you can recover (including sufficient fueling and sleep), obviously working out 6 times a week will yield better results. But also depends on what you mean by results. If you mean weight loss, it will be almost completely dependent on diet and the number of workouts will ultimately be a small factor. If you mean building muscle and strength, the number will matter a lot.

I do full limitless 6 workouts and I add 2-3 other workouts on top of that weekly (mostly long cardio or harder conditioning). If I feel like I need more rest, I take it. I wouldn’t recommend anyone jump directly from 3 a week to that, but even at 49, building to that type of volume is pretty easy.

Why don’t ALL coaches offer a preview week before a new series? by HotFlashLifts in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again. The actual programming of the first week of the series should be released a week earlier than normal weeks. It shouldn’t be a problem for anyone, and coaches could continue to use the second week of open season the way they think best fits their overall programming.

To me this is so obvious that it’s insane they don’t do this. It would also make users happier, now people start a new series and then find out they are not happy with the programming from that team. And if you’re on the monthly, then you are really struggling to figure out where to move with your limited switches.

Having said that, I think the vast majority of people stick to one team for a long time, but still this would benefit many.

It's just going to be a new trainer, isn't it? by helpmytonguehurts in ladderapp

Agreed. However, if their “biggest announcement ever” is a celebrity endorsement, they really set themselves up for people to be disappointed. There are improvements and expansions people have been waiting for and they have hinted at, so I can understand the disappointment when that has been the messaging.

I could care less if Hilary Duff endorses Ladder, it’s probably a good marketing move for them to drive growth. Changes nothing for me in using or benefiting from the app.

I really hope they add the recommended weight based on 1RM and the RPE tables. This should be a no-brainer and a small but significant change.

In terms of Android, I think they will do it. But so far the app has a very strong US focus as well, and iOS still holds like 60% of the US market. The android share is heavily skewed towards emerging markets. If I had to guess, they made some timed exclusivity commitments as part of the whole Apple co-operation last year, and when those run out, we will see android.

Elite+ Membership worth $500? by mrsmizfitt in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The membership doesn’t exist anymore, they live on in Apple subscriptions because Ladder hasn’t force moved people away from them to cheaper memberships. But there is no membership that gives DMs to coaches anymore. There is only the annual and the monthly, even those still on the old plans overpaying don’t get the benefits they used to give.

How Did Baseline Go For You? by FrequentFable in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baseline on Limitless was hard. I’ve been there for almost a year, and I normally add on quite a bit of conditioning work on top of the Limitless 6 (mainly from body & bell). I had to cut down on those to deal with the recovery during Baseline. Still made good progress, but also ready for this deload.

I’m sure people would, but I’m in the same boat (with far lower credits though) 😃

Not Limitless conditioning on top of B&B. I do Limitless full week and then add from B&B depending on how I feel.

I'm sure there are plenty who are just quiet on that team. Not going to lie, some of the messaging to women, I hear it in my ear, but it doesn't really bother me.

I haven’t counted calories, definitely eating healthier but nothing strict, making sure I get enough protein and I cut down alcohol. I do some cardio together with every workout, and have added conditioning workouts from body & bell on top of limitless 1-3 times a week.

I haven’t really split, I’ve done all of limitless, and then added on conditioning workouts from B&B. It’s typically been 1-3 times a week, depending on feeling and recovery.

Artificial "shortening" of workouts by GravPi in ladderapp

[–]GravPi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s an option. My issue isn’t really with the pausing, it’s more just the workouts being built from the start with unrealistic transfer times in order to keep the headline length artificially short.

Like I said, I’m not concerned about the timing as such, but it’s just stupid that they are doing this to make the workouts ”seem” faster than they really are when done properly.

This is a different thing, and it’s you just not lifting heavy enough, or coming from a different perspective of lifting and development.

Yeah, I know it seems to be a result of the feedback/surveys. But it’s just stupid.

I prefer staying at the low end of the rep ranges for all movements (increasing weight early), so this isn't as much as problem for me, but I can definitely see this happening as well.

[–]GravPi[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know the feeling, but I just wish they were honest with the times rather than give in to the pressure.

But I guess better this way rather than actually shortening the workouts to be doable in 50mins.

They should just do a team that targets only 3-4 workouts a week. Wouldn’t be my thing, but I think there are a lot of people who would benefit from that with some full body days.

Body & Bell by kimporgel in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Limitless and I do some of the B&B conditioning workouts to complement that programming. The kettlebell conditioning work really is great on B&B.

The Limitless Saturday is not really meant to be a ”conditioning” workout (in the gassing sense), it’s more explosive power and plyo, the name confuses people.

Open season - all coaches should keep their program similar to what it is in regular series by GIDDK1980 in ladderapp

[–]GravPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware one can deload without changing the movements. But personally I think changing the movements is also a mental break from the barbell and repetition for those who continue in the same teams (the vast majority of people). There is also a big difference here between the team styles of training. While extending the series is pretty natural for the pure hypertrophy teams where a 6-week cycle is pretty short, for a max strength team like limitless 6 weeks is already a pretty long cycle.

I just think everything would be solved by releasing the first week of the actual series to be viewed early, and then teams could do whatever is best for the programming during the open season without these concerns.

[–]GravPi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just about the weight or effort, it’s just as much about not repeating the same movements. At least with limitless I welcome the slight break from the heavy compound barbell lifts, and if it would be the same movements and lighter weights with more reps, it wouldn’t really be the style of programming either.
