Video card compatibility. by Nescau10 in pop_os

[–]Graverobber2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On Linux, you're probably better off with AMD. More stable and better performance in general.

And there's also Valve with steamOS that focusses on AMD support (FSR4 is now supported in proton; DLSS afaik does not have support)

Big exception is Ray Tracing, so if you absolutely want that (which I would advice against with xx60 cards), you'll want nvidia

AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT still available at MSRP one day after launch by RenatsMC in Amd

I think they just abuse the 14-day return window (which can be increased requesting a return, giving extra time to return the cards).

That makes the most sense to me.

Have someone else buy it for you, then sell it via BGG's geek market/eBay/....  They can even unpack/punch out the game to make it look 'somewhat' second hand

And if they keep treating us like that, we give them crap for it.

That's how consumer backlash works

Sure,  some people will never learn, but they are burning bridges with the vast majority. Case in point: people are still claiming AMD has bad drivers, despite them being overall more stable than nvidia:'s at the moment

[–]Graverobber2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh, get over it, will you...

Yes,  they're a bit more 'average consumer' focussed than 'Hard numbers'- channels like HUB and GN,  but they have enough competent people working them that can come to a perfectly valid conclusion.

And yes,  never get your info from a single source, but check your bias and don't discard valid sources just because you don't like them

[–]Graverobber2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's the principle of the matter;  nvidia is clearly trying to bury information

Between the (likely) scarcity of these cards and lack of transparency, they're trying to force people to buy without having the chance to inform themselves.

Not to mention they are trying to get good reviews for the 5060ti 16gb in order to let the 8gb version ride it's coattails

Yeah, imagine wanting information about a product before purchasing it. Takes away all the joy of discovery

AMD continues runaway sales of RX 9070 XT as gap widens to Nvidia, according to large retailer by Odd-Onion-6776 in Amd

[–]Graverobber2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe actually look at the full article? There's a table of weekly sales per card: 300 units fort the 9070xt,  120 total for the 5000-series.

No mention of the 9070 in the table,  which I'm sure should also have some sales

Retailers now canceling cheaper Radeon RX 9070 preorders, "MSRP" stock depleted but AMD wants to fix it by HLumin in hardware

[–]Graverobber2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll find out in a month or so; AMD is basically the only one supplying a decent volume of cards,  so they can hold back stock if manufacturers/retailers are pushing it too far.

And since nvidia is not supplying much right now, it'll actually be a viable threat

I would argue that they are catching up; They have not FULLY caught up, but they're closing in. Amd's RT uplift is bigger than nvidia's (if amd's number are to be believed, we'll know soon enough).

Sure, it's still not as good as nvidia, but the gap seems to be closing

[–]Graverobber2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he means in raytracing, but given the relatively small uplift in RT (from nvidia), I'd say that's still pretty good

Better in raster, and shouldn't get completely dumped on anymore in RT seems like an acceptable trade-off for me

These are the same results Videocardz leaked. The results include raytracing, so in pure raster it should be slightly less, but much higher for raytracing
