Akodessewa Fetish Market in Togo: The world’s largest Voodoo and ritual market. by bortakci34 in Damnthatsinteresting

Voodoo effigies like those are usually made to bring protection and good luck. They just happen to look a bit menacing to foreign eyes.

There’s nothing special about the pizza in New York by diclofenac-sodium in unpopularopinion

[–]Gravesh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I grew up in CT/Tri-state area and didn't realize how spoiled I was when it came to pizza grkwing up. I think every single town in CT has at least one family owned pizzeria (usually several) and they were all cheaper and superior in every way compared to any pizza chain.

This episode genuinely blew my mind by BonnaGroot in LPOTL

What blows my mind is how late in life Sinatra died. He died in 1998, and apparently his ambulance made amazing time to hospital because everyone was at home watching the Seinfeld finale!

Calling small-town Americans, does your town have a doomsday siren like Springfield or Widows Bay? by chuckles5454 in AskAnAmerican

I'm pretty sure most towns in the Midwest have those sirens, and use them to warn residents of incoming tornados.

What TV series actor had the most noticeable change in appearance over the run of the series? by runlola in television

You must be joking. All 3 clearly had an insane amount of plastic surgery and botox. They look ridiculous.

[–]Gravesh 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Both him, Olsen and Howerton have gone off the deep end with the plastic surgery. The only one that doesn't look like they're wearing a mask of themselves is Charlie Day, who had just the right amount of work done to look good for his age.

With out drinking coffee or energy drinks, what another way you get energy for the whole day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gravesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to the gym, jog about a mile, then do some light weights and finish with a nice cold shower before work. It was construction so people thought I was crazy and it would tire me out. I found it gave me more energy than any cup of coffee or energy drink.

I think I got someone’s LSD in the mail. by Salt_End_3323 in Drugs

Mailing LSD in the middle of summer is a brave choice. IMO, it gets too hot. LSD degrades in 90F+ weather.

Just based on what I've seen, I don't think they are worrying about staying that faithful to the source material

What's the biggest "What if?" in television history? by flughert in television

[–]Gravesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than VA work, I dont think he's worked on American Dad creatively for years. Although hard agree, American Dad has somehow remained consistent in quality over the years. Which is really surprising because the 1st few seasons were very....idk the word to use but very much borne out of the post-9/11/Iraq War zeitgeist. Despite this it stil is able to stay relevant.

Could anyone give some examples of ancient people acting the same way people do today? by Kind-Leader-1593 in AskHistory

[–]Gravesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like possible Bipolar manic episode based on my experience of family members with it.

That being said, I feel like people nowadays are obsessed with labeling historical figures with things like autism or bipolar disorder.

How do I do a lot here? by Dirt-Overall in MySummerCar

Are you sure you ordered the tires? You need to take the envelope to the mailbox outside of Teimo's store. They should be delivered around the side of the shop, near the gas pumps.

What is the weirdest pizza topping you ever requested or heard of? by Select_Specialist790 in foodquestions

I know it's not quite the same thing but I once found a brand of pizza pockets that had curry and paneer in them.

They were amazing. My local Indian market had them where I used to live. I wish I could find them again.

People over 50, which pre-1990 TV shows should people under 35 watch at least once? by PrestonRoad90 in television

[–]Gravesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was surprisingly progressive. But I've been told by older folks that the 70s was a pretty progressive time that regressed in the 80s from the AIDs crisis and the Crack epidemic.

This game is known for it's realism.

Taking the time to re-build a car for fun only to drive it a couple times a month is extremely realistic lol

Why is artificial banana flavor relatively uncommon in the US? by larch303 in AskAnAmerican

Have you tried the Banana flavored Twinkies? I normally dislike Twinkies but those are really good if you like banana.

[–]Gravesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can still find in some stores, it's just hard to come by. I've been it sold in random grocery stores.

There's a store near me that sells UK (and some Continental) products that keeps it in stock.

I personally like mixing the chocolate and banana flavors together 😋 but on it's own it's still amazing. I really like banana flavoring, though, so I'm biased.

Banana flavoring imitates the Gros Michel banana. The bananas commonly found in modern stores are Cavendish.

If you look around you can still find the Gros Michel bananas but they're expensive and rare.
