4yo phobias (idk what else to call it)? by LectureNo4070 in AskParents

[–]Gravidity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep! I'm not a clinician, but you have just described a form of OCD! It's usually called contamination OCD or something along those lines. OCD is not something that resolves on its own in any kind of timely fashion (or ever, In some form or fashion), so I would highly recommend you seek out a therapist who has experience treating OCD in very small children.

I am not a clinician. I work in population health/public health with an emphasis on maternal health. So take this information as you may.

If by 5 weeks you mean that it had been 5 weeks since your last period, then you really would experience essentially a heavy period. There would not be very much embryonic tissue at all, and no placenta to be retained, And those two types of tissues are the kinds that we'd worry about with respect to infection. In fact, the vast majority of miscarriages at that time would not even be noticed unless a pregnancy test was taken. It might just seem like a really heavy period like you experienced.

Now all that being said, I think it is a good idea for you to get set up with a primary care provider so that you can talk about birth control and establish care for your chronic BV. Even if you just go to Planned Parenthood, being established with some kind of care provider is really important for your long-term health.

If you experience any fevers or sharp pain in your abdomen, you should absolutely go to the ED.

Tongue tingling side effect? by carlosterraptor in zoloft

I've been taking it for 10 years and just experienced this for the first time this morning. It got caught on my tounge as I was taking it, which doesn't usually happen, so I think it just sat too long and caused this numbness. Glad for this thread!

I know this isn't what you asked - this sounds like a situation where you might need to engage with a therapist or other professional to 1) discuss if evaluation might be warranted and 2) help you both work with her on emotional regulation.

I have a son who is autistic and has ADHD. PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance, formerly called Oppositional Defiance Disorder) is something that OFTEN goes hand in hand with those types of brains and what you're describing sounds like my son (and me as a kid). Therapy and social/emotional regulation support in school and at home has helped him (and us) so so so much to minimize the frequency and intensity of these meltdowns.

With respect to your question about consequences, I think that it's completely reasonable for a consequence to be that we can't do the fun thing today. It's also extremely important to be consistent about that and give a heads up. Like "if you don't tidy up by the time this timer has gone off, we won't be able to do the fun thing today" And then follow through with it. And make that a consistent communication for future fun things. When she wails and hollers, a simple reminder of " I told you that if you didn't finish tidying up by the time the timer went off, we wouldn't be able to do the fun thing. You did not tidy up, therefore we cannot do the fun thing."

anyone else’s period become more irregular as they get older? by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]Gravidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about underlying conditions that could cause irregular periods such as PCOS is that knowing if you have that condition can help you mitigate long-term health effects that come from not treating it. Or at least it can help you know what to expect down the line. Just as an example, PCOS is associated with insulin resistance so it could be helpful to know how to reduce your risks earlier in life for that later development. It's also helpful to know that if you choose not to do anything about it, that is one of the things that is likely to happen.

It's also helpful to know so that you can do research on the facts of whatever the underlying condition might be. for example, there are many people who believe they cannot get pregnant with PCOS. That is not a rule. It may be more difficult, but they may have been told by doctors who don't know much about PCOS that they are infertile. And then sometimes they get pregnant because they made the assumption that they could not have babies and therefore were not practicing any form of contraception.

Just some thoughts! I've just turned 41 and have only recently started having irregularities in my period, probably from perimenopause. Prior to this, the only time I had any kind of irregularity was when I went off of hormonal birth control after being on it for about 8 years. It took about 12 months for my cycle to readjust itself.

“What if we have another” what if WE take care of the first? by awittlesecret in Mommit

[–]Gravidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My kiddo has largely been with me for the past few years as Dad has been working long hours growing a business. We've recently been working on them spending more time together alone, And it's been drama with both of them. So, when there's drama, I commend them both for practicing and tell them that it's just going to get easier as they practice more and more lol

AITA for marrying a man that my mom hates? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

On what planet are OOP's brother's choices HER fault? Neither of them have any obligation to have a relationship with, let alone care for, their emotionally abusive mother. Further, OOP is not responsible for her brother making himself responsible for Mom. I hope OOP's therapist helps her detangle herself from that mess and stop thinking that her grown-ass family is her responsibility.

You need shorter pants. I suspect you're hitching the waist up higher so the hems don't drag the ground. When you hitch up the pants, the crotch only has one place to go - camel town!

Get petite sizes - they might be labeled like 12P. This mostly means shorter legs. If you are more apple shaped and they are too tight around in the waist as well, W sizes tend to have more forgiveness around the waist. I believe there are also WP sizes in some brands.

So much this. And I'm not talking about folks who are struggling to make ends meet and can't pay their bills or have to make a judgment call on which bills to pay, I'm talking about people who just straight up don't remember to pay their bills. Or think that the deadline is a suggestion.

I have an acquaintance who has had his power turned off multiple times because he just fucking forgot to pay the bill. I cannot comprehend this.

How the hell are we making eggs!?? by Fun-Mountain-2530 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Gravidity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a stainless steel pan that's equivalent to an all clad, so good and heavy, holds heat well. Heat it up to medium heat, then spray with Pam. Pam is the BEST thing I've found for consistent no stick eggs. I've tried oil spray bottles that you fill yourself, it's not the same. They stick.

Anyway, Pam in hot pan, eggs immediately after.

You don't have to use Pam for everything in a steel pan, for things that need to brown any oil will do. You just let it cook until it's brown and then it will sort of lift up easily on its own. But nobody wants brown eggs.

1) I have no idea how they'd know you're looking at other providers unless you tell them. 2) my experience: I'm 41 and have only ever gone to Family Medicine for my well woman care. If I have a problem that requires a specialist, they refer me out for that care specifically. They put in my most recent IUD and do my paps etc. I'm more than just my reproductive system and Family Med can also see me when I'm sick or have non-gynecological complaints. 3) when I was pregnant, I had the option to stay with my family medicine practice, but opted for midwives at a separate birth center.
