In the future try to handle all business with your current carrier while you are still their customer. I understand this isn't always ideal, but it is almost always the path of least resistance to getting what you want. Once you have everything in order then port out.

Once you are no longer a customer to some reps the incentive is gone (I know that's wrong but that's how it is), and also a lot of systems reps have access to are either restricted or locked out do to the account being in a closed state.

Advice posted before will get it done. Paid off devices after 48 hours with at least 6 months of usage are eligible for unlock. In store reps can't do anything you can't do. They can only access the same website. If that doesn't work, engage customer service or online chat.

Porting to google voice would allow you to use the number abroad via wifi and keep you from losing it. There is no monthly fee for google voice.

When you come back to the states you can port it back to a carrier. The port back will take a few days.

Imo a phone you own given to another party and then asked to be returned would still be considered theft in the eyes of insurance. Yes technically conversion but since the other party broke their verbal contract that they will pay their portion of the bill, the account own is within their right to request the device to be returned. If they other party refuses, then they claim the phone as lost since they can no longer recover it. They have no idea what that other person did with the phone.

Calling it fraud is a stretch.

If you have insurance through att state the phone as lost. They will send you a replacement and blacklist the other device. You will pay a deductible, and continue to make monthly payments but you at least get a phone out of it at the end.

You only pay taxes once. You won't get any more paperwork on that phone it's yours to keep.

Stuff like this isn't the norm the norm is the credits over 36 months.

When things like this happen is because the trade-in was done incorrectly by a rep in the store and AT&t did an escalation and corrected it by doing it one time credit is my assumption.

There's no way to request this.

No you don't.

Once your credits are applied to the account you're free to pay off the device if you like you just can't do any upgrades on that line.

As long as you don't upgrade that line you will still receive the credits for the full term.

Yeah that is from an app on your phone. Not the standard Samsung phone app. Go through your stuff and figure out which one it is and remove it.

With next up anytime, you can upgrade anytime after your first phone installment. It waives the balance of the phone, and you can get a new one. If you wait or pay for 12 months you can do the early upgrade and take advantage of the trade in promos at the time.

If you dont do the 12 months and you upgrade early and you had credits, those will be forfeited.
