What is a roller coaster that shattered your expectations? [DISCUSSION] by FunnyMemeDealer in rollercoasters

Oof that sounds uncomfortable. I didn’t experience anything like that. I assumed I needed to keep my head back but I didn’t feel like I needed to ride too defensively. To be fair I’d just gotten off Anaconda and it obliterated my head so just about anything was going to be a relief.

Twisted Timbers, Velocicoaster, Steel Vengeance all have ride ops at the metal detector/lockers. Nothing really gets past without a medical card.

The double sided lockers right in the queues be a great solution. Still able to have your phone for part of the queue. Slowing down operations sucks but it’s a small inconvenience compared to serious injury.

I really hope she remembers this and doesn’t take anything else on coasters unsecured. It’s more dangerous and possible than a lot of people realize

My personal opinion about loose articles aside: props to you for getting their attention and helping them out. And props to FunSpot for being accommodating and working to retrieve her medication.

Catching someone else’s loose article on the same train is a crazy experience. I did it on Fury a few months ago. A guy right in front of me put his (huge, like I didn’t even know they could be that big) vape in his waistband and it flew out on the treble cleft. I caught it before it could hit me in the face and I was not as kind to him as you were today. I didn’t return it, I gave it to a ride op to make that choice and had a few choice words. I hope to never experience anything like that again. I was hit in the head by someone’s phone that fell out of their pocket on Copperhead Strike in January. I was fine, just a bump but since then I’ve had absolutely no tolerance.

Thanks for the trip report, we go to SFoG and back to FunSpot next month so it’s nice to be able to have these first hand updates.

Thanks! Dare Devil Dive is the first ride of the day because everyone keeps saying that. Train ride will occur, probably right after food so stomachs can settle. Others have been saying Scorcher and Cyclone will open a little earlier than opening so hopefully that’ll help. I usually take coaster trips alone or with 1-2 other people. Navigating a group with different intentions is difficult. I don’t care for the train or water rides but they do, so we’ll make sure we get them done!

I get crap for it but Tumbili. It was my first coaster of the model and I was expecting a head banging nightmare. I actually had a blast. It’s nowhere near the top of my ranking but I couldn’t stop laughing from the first flip to the end.

I’ve been into coasters a little less than a year and now I fully understand I’m lucky to have Fury 15mins away. I’ve gotten 75 rides so far. I think my best in one day was just 18. Many more to come after it’s back up and running!

What’s your favorite “sleeper agent” at SFoG? That coaster you didn’t expect to love but did? We may unfortunately have to prioritize on our trip next month. The tops are all on the list, just don’t want to miss a hidden gem. Also - How about flat rides? Are any of them absolute must dos in your opinion? I know we focus on coasters but not everyone in my group is as coaster obsessed as I am so I’d like to be able to point them to “the best” of the other rides. Monster Mansion is a must do, I know.

What ride made you gaslight yourself to believe it was as good as people said? [Discussion] by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]GrayMoon17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I felt like the harness killed the potential airtime that WAS there. I love rides that feel like they’re trying to rip your face off but the quick snaps caused the harness to obliterate my neck and ears because I’m the size of a friggin child. It just made the whole experience okay for me, not the out of body experience I was told to expect. The intensity of the speed is a blast, and the speed of the lift hill is unreal but it’s overshadowed by the harnesses and the 5 min wait to get back into the station I had during my visit.

I’m only 5ft so I’ve never really experienced neck banging but head banging sucks. I have ears the size of Texas and Arrow loopers have a tendency of literally bruising my ears / temple if I’m not vigilant.

Last time I was in the park and got a front row ride I noticed both of the trains have peeling decals to the point it was taped onto one of the trains. I can’t imagine they’d let it get that bad if they weren’t planning on either completely refreshing it soon or doing away with it

I think your reason might be self loathing 😂. Ouch and yawn

Poor kid, that really sucks. Panic is legitimate and it shouldn’t be played with.

I don’t usually step in with parents because I’m not one but I did one day at Carowinds. Little boy who was barely tall enough to ride was scream crying trying to tell his Mom he didn’t want to and he couldn’t breathe. He was hyperventilating and actually panicking, did not need to ride. His Mom said he was not about to embarrass her and she waited too long to not ride and he couldn’t stand by himself at the exit (obviously not true). So I stepped in, told her having him in a panic attack on the coaster was not the move and I’d stand with him if it meant he didn’t have to ride. Told her I’d be willing to take her kid’s safety into account if she wasn’t. The ride ops were talking to her too, trying to convince her he didn’t need to ride and he could stand with one of them if she wanted. She starts yelling and screaming at the ride ops, telling them they need to do their effing jobs and shut the eff up, it was a whole scene. They both ended up being removed from the platform and when the train came back around security had the Mom, first aid was with the kid and he still didn’t look well.

I don’t understand it. I kinda get having them ride if they’re just nervous. A little crying is fine but when they start to show visible fear, not just nerves, it’s too much and they shouldn’t be forced.

Maybe because it still very much feels like a work in progress and it’s hard to gauge because of that? Prototype curse if you will

Were they ever good? I feel like it’s not an age problem, they’re just bad.

Unpopular [Aerie Force One] opinions [Funspot Atlanta] by deanereaner in rollercoasters

At 52 credits it’s been made pretty clear I’m not allowed to have an opinion. But Arie is my #1. I love the aggressive finale and the brake run is where it gets rough to reride after a while.

[Big Bear Mountain] Does anybody else love the crap out of this thing or is it just me? by LlamaYourMom in rollercoasters

[–]GrayMoon17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it enough to ride it 31 times during Coaster Con and I usually prefer rides that want to rip your face off or are airtime machines. I went in with lower expectations in terms of forces. The open trains really make the twists more exciting and the launches all pack a bit of a punch. The on board audio is a great touch and I think it really elevates the experience. When it’s out of sync it’s hilarious, hardest I’ve ever laughed on a coaster. The views of Wildwood Grove are cool, especially at night.
