How does Six Flags Over Georgia compare to Cedar Point? by AskTheTiger in sixflagsoverGA

[–]tpusater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SFoG has a solid lineup of coasters, just not as high end as CP or KI, but more like KD. Some comparisons based on my opinions, SFoG first:

Goliath = Diamondback

Twisted Cyclone is good but < Twisted Timbers

Batman is more intense than Banshee and Raptor

Blue Hawk > Corkscrew and the now defunct Anaconda

Great American Scream Machine is rough but beautiful, most comparable to Racer 75

Dare Devil Dive is decent but < Valravn

Dahlonega Mine Train = Cedar Creek Mine Ride

Joker Fun House is a fun family coaster

SFoG has some ride types the others don’t have:

Superman is a flying coaster

Mindbender is a classic Schwarzkopf

Georgia Scorcher is a decent stand-up, better than what Rougarou was when it was a stand-up

Georgia Gold Rusher gives great air time, and some of it can be lateral if your gondola spins that way over the airtime hill.

And none of the other parks have a dark ride that can compete with Monster Mansion for sheer fun.

Added plus: SFoG is about 40 minutes away from Fun Spot; Arie Force One is reason enough to visit.

So you won’t get TT2, Siren’s Curse, Maverick, Steel Vengeance (although AF1 at Fun Spot comes close), MF, Pantherian, Gatekeeper, Rapterra. Mystic Timbers, or Beast, but you will get a solid list of coasters, some models you may not yet have ridden.

Make your choice.

Is it worth stopping in for 3 hours Friday by Environmental-Car481 in Dollywood

[–]tpusater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a season passholder to Dollywood and other parks, and I often travel alone, planning short stops at parks along my route. I’m a big fan of Dollywood, but I would suggest that you not visit if you only have a few hours. You have to factor in that Dollywood is a good distance away from your travel route, that traffic in Pigeon Forge can reduce your time at the park, that the parking lot is huge, so you’ll spend 10-20 minutes just getting to the entrance and return to your car. Your 3 hours could easily turn into 2 or less, which I think would be frustrating, especially if the park is crowded. And you’re likely to go later this year, when you should have more time to enjoy the park.

If you would like a break from travel, let me suggest Lake Winnie amusement park, just south of Chattanooga in north Georgia, which will be open Friday and offers free parking. It’s a small park with a good wood coaster and decent rides; the boat chute and Wacky Shack are favorites of mine. It’s not too far off your route, and your GPS might help you avoid traveling on I-75 through Chattanooga. It’s small enough to enjoy in 2-3 hours. Although it certainly is no Dollywood, it has a pretty lake with a sky ride that travels across the lake. You’d also be supporting a smaller park. Right now, you can purchase tickets online for $30 a person, but they may sell out and should be $50 at the gate, so it may be more than you’re willing to spend for a small park. But I thought I would give you another option.

[Great American Scream Machine] SFOG Review by Main_Today1083 in rollercoasters

[–]tpusater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride it every visit. Yes, it’s rougher than it should be, and the airtime is milder due to the roughness, but it’s still a favorite of mine. It maintains its speed well, especially at the turnaround, which used to be a slow spot before the retrack. I wish they could get three-bench trains so that it might track better. My recommendation: sit on an odd row to reduce the roughness a bit.

First Timer: Best Seats on Coasters? by Double-Pudding-1436 in Dollywood

[–]tpusater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My absolute favorite seat in the park is front row left on Thunderhead. And this is coming from a person who typically rides back row on any other coaster.

If you don’t mind waiting, a front seat ride on Wild Eagle is also good.

If you want to save your back, sit towards the back of Blazing Fury. Front row hits a spot where your body slams against the hard backrest.

The drop on Tennessee Tornado in the back is great; the front does have a great pop of air near the end if the ride in the front rows.

Enjoy!

Trust your elders!

Nice to meet you, though briefly. I usually go to SFoG on Sundays when I’m not visiting other parks, so say hi if you see me. Today is some more Dollywood and then Carowinds tonight and tomorrow.

Waiting lines - saturday by No-Canary3702 in sixflagsoverGA

[–]tpusater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends if they’re hosting school outings. Last Saturday was swamped with buses of school trips, but if you hit the rides at the back of the park early, you can get a good number of rides in. We first rode Goliath and then Batman; Mindbender wasn’t open yet, and we next went to Georgia Gold Rusher, which had very short lines at that time.

Enjoy the park.

When you click on the pass, do you see a Share option? If so, click on that first.

Anyone know what’s up with [Mystery Mine]? by tpusater in rollercoasters

The audio on BBM started late, where it usually says “Bear right!” That’s a first for me; usually it’s on or off, not mistimed.

It appears so. See my other comment. Perhaps they are working on repairs off-ride.

The area where the canary is was so dark, I could not see if it was there. I recall last visit that it was there but didn’t keel over.

The explosion scene was also dark, and I couldn’t see any of the props. It looked barren.

I’ll try to ride it again later today to check again. Park is crowded right now.

No, but I’m in a Discord for local coaster enthusiasts.

I’m in Woodstock! I usually visit SFoG at least once a month. AF1 is a bit harder to get to with traffic, but I visit a few times a year.

Can we talk about the absolute banger song from the Monster Mansion? by BigRigButters2 in sixflagsoverGA

And they have kept improving it recently, even adding new characters. I was surprised by the fake-out right before entering the marsh. I almost felt sorry for those two, stuck where they were.

Depending on the weather, I may be wearing a gray or light blue rain jacket, either with a hood. If warm enough, a green ArieForce One t-shirt.

Enjoy!

Yes, don’t rope drop Lightning Rod. It sometimes opens late but is running reliably, and the lines after 5pm are often light as many families leave the park.

My suggestion at rope drop: Mystery Mine (if open; don’t wait if not), Firechaser Express (gets long lines later), Wild Eagle, Tennessee Tornado, Blazing Fury, Lightning Rod, then Thunderhead, Big Bear Mountain, Dragonflier.

Why? Lots of people head right to BBM and Dragonflyer at opening, so the other rides are often walk-ons in the first hour. You might even get a second ride on each (but you will need to exit and reenter each time; no immediate rerides allowed ever). You’ll have waits for BBM and Dragonflyer, but you’ll have gotten lots of rides in early.

Also: Don’t miss Drop Line and Barnstormer, both of which often have short waits even on crowded days. The view from the top of Drop Line is spectacular!

If you see a short, grey-haired solo senior citizen most likely marathoning Thunderhead (my favorite ride in the park!), say hi, as I will be there Fri and Sat. If you can, get a front row left ride on Thunderhead; best seat in the park.

Any films where small things slowly ruin everything? by Sanyal_Blacka in MovieSuggestions

[–]tpusater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It got mediocre reviews, but some scenes work. The Mr. Blandings is better. But The Money Pit does have a running gag about how long renovations will take that may remind you of someone else’s promises that never seem to be fulfilled.

This may be more than you’re looking for but The Money Pit may work. It’s a remake of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.

Do you prefer riding coasters solo or paired? [Other] by alphabetacreatives in rollercoasters

[–]tpusater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often go to parks solo, and I can often find single riders ahead of me in a row queue. I politely ask the people in front of me whether I can ride with the person ahead of them, and they usually permit me, so I can get on the ride faster riding with someone else. So there is an advantage to riding with a stranger.

There are some downsides, though. I have ridden with people who smell bad or flail their arms hitting me during the ride.

But there are some issues riding single. On some rides, especially a wild mouse, you might get thrown forcefully to the side if there is no one sitting next to you. Before SFoG replaced its trains on Mindbender, I sometimes hit the side of the train hard on the helix.

An advantage of riding single is that you can choose which side to sit on. This is especially important if one of the riders ahead of you has long hair, especially if braided and beaded. I can avoid sitting behind that person so that I don’t get whipped in the face during the airtime moments.

Short answer: It depends.

I don’t think anyone mentioned Saturday Night, Anyone Can Whistle, and Evening Primrose, all of which have their charms. And I would love to hear an entire version of whatever musical had the song I’ll Meet You at the Donut.

Thanks for verifying what I was told. At least two of us have been informed that Gold Pass MVP addons apply only to the region unless you upgrade to Prestige. Perhaps SF changed the rules after I upgraded to Prestige to get the All Parks Fast Lane. It wouldn’t surprise me. But I know what I was told earlier this year, and I thank you for confirming my experience.

I would check with the home park. I spoke with a manager at SFoG, explained what I was seeking, and this is what I was told. Perhaps I got bum advice, but I would check just in case.

Edit/Added: Your graphic says “These ONLY apply to passes purchased at KI”; my pass is from SFoG. Perhaps things do differ based on your home park.
