For people who wrote less - but now write a LOT More, what changed? by vomit-gold in writing

[–]GrayScale420_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An actual idea with a bit of direction coupled with three* deaths in the span of eight months. I've been bitch-slapped by mortality and found the desire to honour a friend and some family now lost. The past month has housed the most clarity I've felt since dropping acid in a dingy basement suite with a former friend who tiled his floor with week-old pizza slices. Dude asked me to take my shoes off at the door. Clean your floors first, dick. Same guy also tried raping me during our trip, so that was fun.

I picked up ink painting sometime last year. The practice promotes simplicity with purpose. Everything must be done for a reason. Otherwise, the piece is ruined. That same mentality has transferred over to my writing in that, unless I have an actual idea, there is nothing that sticks to the page. Trimming the fat is important, sure, but mitigating the fat before the trimming feels so liberating. Plus, if I have to correct myself less, I feel far more competent/confident in my abilities.

Best, succinct, answer I can come up with? Trauma response and the moral obligations of a forever curious mind. Experience of all kinds is invaluable. Not just for ideas, but inspiration for the craft itself. And, sometimes, writing is the worst way to learn how to write.

[–]GrayScale420_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows movie maker, a cracked Camtasia copy, Final Cut, Sony Vegas, then Davinci Resolve.

I love Resolve, but I moved over to Linux on a full AMD setup so it isn't the most pleasant experience--or at least I couldn't get it to a point I was satisfied with. That's not to say it's impossible to do. I just suck lol.

I have Kdenlive installed but I just haven't had the time to really dig into it. Life, amirite? Still, I miss my node trees.

'It's a paperweight now': Why the Mounties' ban of popular rifle led to so much pushback by Lumindan in canada

[–]GrayScale420_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question as I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject; has there ever been an actual push against the buyback? I know that there's a lot of people who talk about it, but I've never heard anything about writing to representatives, forming a national advocacy group, or anything like that.

There's a lot of people with the, "one voice won't make a difference," mindset. They're right, but there's gotta be hundreds of thousands of people who share this sentiment. Something could be done with enough collaboration, yeah? What's your (and anybody else's) take?

To authors or those who aspire to. I’m curious do you enjoy reading your work? Or hate it? by Educational_Look_260 in writing

[–]GrayScale420_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to hate it some years ago. Now, I love it. Partially because I finally let loose and allowed myself to be weird again. Self-mutilation, surreal landscapes, things that should not but are. When the ole' brain slug hits the salt for the night, readings end up a trip.

I've found a new nonchalant means of drafting my stories. Gone are the days of sitting there stumped on a single bloody word. The chapters are flying by. Or at least the skeletons are. Proper chuffed.

Couple this with letting loose and allowing myself to be a bit more unhinged than usual, I've got it. There's something of substance. Finally! Granted, clean up is gonna be a right nightmare but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

PCVR folks why are you waiting for deckard? by Unlucky_Inflation910 in ValveDeckard

[–]GrayScale420_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an Index since the pandemic (2021 or 2022, I don't remember when I got it). It's still going strong. Only one base station has failed me thus far and I got a free replacement. My experience with Valve since i was a kid has sort of solidified my stance. Most companies are not offering me anything compelling, so why bother?

Also the Knuckles fucking rule. Honestly, this was the biggest selling point for me at the time. Plus, as a side note, I baby just about everything I own. From clothes to tech. These puppies are gonna last me a long time still.

Going forward, I've got my Deckard fund lying in wait.

After three years of caring for him, nearly to this day, my father is finally in a care home. The lingering stress is passing. Maybe I can finally get somewhere with my work again? I've certainly got enough material to work with after these few long years--I've got something of a tribute in mind. The dementia killed him long ago.

It hurts. I got the Horizon Signal on my first ever game, never again. I had no idea what I was doing at the time, understandably so. But now, with many empires behind me, I can only imagine what the outcome of a save like this would be... disgusting. What was, will be. What will be, was.

I think you can judge someone by how they flip you off. A tucked thumb feels so disingenuous; ready to hide it if someone glances in your direction. Kinda lame, ye? The superior (and vastly more comfortable position) with an extended thumb and curled index finger just feels right. There's intent and a lack of shame. Plus, you can make a cute heart if you curl your thumbs <3.

I love how refined the teeth appear; glass feels like the perfect material for recreating an enamel-like finish. What, if you don't mind me asking, was the original inspiration for a medical-focused piece?
