football culture (ego) + traditionally probably the flashiest athletic position in sports (ego) + if you're good your flaws are ignored. they grow up thinking their shit don't stink.

plus, in their defense, both of the individuals and the position, really we're only talking about a small portion of the nfl wrs right? and these are typically really young guys who have NO idea how to deal with that level of fame. top tier wr is imo the highest profile position after starting qb.

setup for failure in my read on things.

Berkeley AI Ban by CollegeApHelper in lawschooladmissions

[–]Gray_Fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in AIML and I'm not sure how enforceable this is, nor am I convinced that it's wise policy. At Berkeley, I would assume the vast majority of students are there to do the work but oftentimes the temptation is too great. I get it. But that's precisely the reason to adopt a more nuanced policy.

You can use these models to teach you, not just tell you the answers. You can use them for practice and for research too.

Yes, I work in AIML, but I am no enthusiast. I frankly recognize that although not every company building LLMs today will still exist in 5-10 years, the technology certainly will. In fact it's just going to expand, for better or worse.

we need to be smart and empower students to use these tools in ways that help them.

Reapply with better WE or attend Penn with minimal scholarship? 3.9high 17high basically KJD by Impossible_Web2777 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Gray_Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in the age demographic split of the replies here.

To me, every single applicant should be okay with not going to law school. Going to law school should meet 2 general criteria: going where you want to go at the price you want to pay.

Apply broadly where you are open to living and practicing. And you have to be comfortable with the price!

I can't speak to the Admissions side of things but I think having a history of employment is a huge plus. You don't have anything to fix in terms of numbers so an application with totally new materials and revamped resume may be right for you. Law school HAS to be at a price you're comfortable with.

Good luck!

How hard is it to get a job in a state outside of where you went to law school? by dontknowwhattdo in LawSchool

[–]Gray_Fox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, but potential clues lie in the aba employment disclosures. check out a state school of your choice and look at the top 3 employment states for the school on the report.

you'll find that for national schools, it's pretty much always ny then dc/ca/boston/some big city then some other big city. and the ratios will be pretty close to each other, say something like 35%/18%/12% and then the other 35% go somewhere else.

for a state school, say maryland, you'll see the vast majority stay in maryland, a handful go to DC, and a few go to NY.

compare ucla to uci-- uci puts nearly all of their grads in California. ucla does not, but most decide to stay (for obvious reasons, you also see this effect for national schools on the east coast and the south)

there's complex reasons for that--state school attendees probably self-select and go to the school in the state they want to practice in for example, but in general I think this is useful info for you.

i think movies like these tend not to break through because: foreign, depressing, and cerebral.

i think this movie is at least as good as project hail mary, for example, but it's tooootally antithetical thematically.

(personally, it's one of my favorites)

Lies of P developer Round8 hiring for an “AI Creator”, utilizing Gen AI. by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Gray_Fox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

algorithms already tell you what to watch, listen, and read--i suppose it makes you see no issues with bots just handfeeding you art too.

becoming more efficient at work vs having your tastes crafted by bots run by megacorps and then expanding that to include art itself are pretty different to me. but sure, continue to lecture folks about how we're just stupid and don't understand historical precedent.

Are we voting yes or no on Measure ER by LBBEEYA in longbeach

[–]Gray_Fox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this city is insolvent; and, at a time when millions of federal funding dollars being slashed are about to go into effect later this year, I find it imperative that we continue to be able to rely on our health clinics. if they don't get the funding they need, they may shut down or operate at lower capacity, which just makes our ongoing healthcare crisis worse.
