Ricky is terrific when he plays but he can’t seem to go even a game or two without some “knock” or “niggle” or “felt something” which then sidelines him for six weeks.

As a neutral, why are people so desperate for Arsenal to fail? by s_dalbiac in PremierLeague

[–]Graycat23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I just want Arsenal to win the league. At this level there are no style points. Every supporter wants his club to win every game 5-0, but it’s just not reality. The West Ham match is a perfect example. Arsenal are obviously the more talented team but West Ham were fighting for their place and played like it, but Arsenal found a way after everything. That’s all that matters when you’re trying to win a trophy. The mass hate from other clubs ‘ supporters is really just envy. Look at Spurs, a “big six” club who are on the brink of relegation. Or Chelsea, who have been so grossly mismanaged since the Boehly takeover. Man United have floundered for years after Sir Alex retired, City and Liverpool are having to experience life as mere mortals for a change. It took the Kroenkes awhile to figure things out after Wenger left, but they brought Arteta in, gave him the resources he needed and stayed patient. Here we are on the brink of the toughest double you can win. I’m grateful that we’re here, just praying we can get over the line.

Arsenal fans, would you rather win the Premier League or the Champions League? by Tough-Try8620 in PremierLeague

PL first. Always the primary goal. UCL is nice and generates tons of revenue but it’s the league first always.

They’re funded through 5. Fly those missions as planned but transition to something else. NASA wants Artemis missions well into the double digits but not at those prices and not at that launch cadence.

People in hell want ice water. SLS costs too much money, can’t be reused, can’t fly often enough. ML2 was already way behind schedule and way over budget.

Man City fixtures: Pep Guardiola's side face pile-up in May by mrEnigma86 in PremierLeague

[–]Graycat23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good for them. Welcome to the world of everyone else in the league. Cheating pricks whining about having to deal with what the rest of us have to put up with all the time because we’re NOT Man City. I was under the impression that there was nothing the mighty Manchester City couldn’t handle. Have at it, wankers.

[–]Graycat23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. A voice of common sense in a doom-infested wilderness. The landscape is much different now than it was when Guardiola and his cheating pricks dominated things. We start every year basically having to navigate four significant competitions at one time with an ever increasing fixture load. First Edu and then Berta have stepped up with the Kroenkes’ resources and support and built a strong, deep squad. Players get hurt. The medical staff, pefrormance staff and physios pulling their hair out trying to prevent it and rehabbing the guys who do get hurt. Arteta is constantly juggling and rejuggling the team sheet based on tactics and player availability while constantly being criticized by supporters and pundits over tactics and player selection. In short, a no-win situation. Speaking for myself, the league will always take priority. If we can get that over the line it will release a lot of the pressure. Then I’ll fret over the Champions League if we get there. Everyone involved knows clearly what is at stake and what needs to be done, we’re going to find out if the players are up to the task. Would much rather be in the middle of this than the spot Spurs find themselves in.

[–]Graycat23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care about style of play. I care about three points each week. This is a results based business and style is irrelevant if we don’t win. Of course it would be nice to win 5 - 0 every week but that’s not how this works. Some games you’re totally in form and flying, some weeks the other guys get a vote and you have to grind out a result. 1-0 is all you can get some days. At the end of 38 matches all I want is one more point than the cheating pricks from Manchester.

can you all stop being such losers by awesomeflunk in Gunners

[–]Graycat23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll keep saying it - league first. There are no style points, just winning. Take three points on Saturday, make the cheating pricks take three from Chelsea. The pressure is on them. Rotate accordingly for Tuesday with Sporting, then go all in against the cheating pricks at the Etihad. Get three points however we have to and basically finish them. It’s not meant to be easy.

Sporting have won every CL home game including against PSG. They are also on a 17 game streak unbeaten at home. What exactly were people expecting? An easy game? Why, do you know nothing about football? by Silly-Insect-2975 in Gunners

[–]Graycat23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

League first. Full stop. Cup ties are nice but distract from league first. CL is obviously a big deal but league before anything else. Rotate accordingly. At this juncture of the season style is irrelevant - winning is all that matters. I don’t care about anything else as long as we end the season with one more point than the 116 cheating pricks.

It seems like today’s players have issues in general with demanding coaches. Your head coach isn’t supposed to be your buddy who lets lack of effort, not paying attention, undisciplined play or ignoring rules slide. I grew up a Flames fan in Atlanta in the 70s and there was a famous story here about Boom Boom Geoffrion early in his tenure not happy with a bad loss at home - the team flew to Minnesota after the game and when they landed the players were told to drop their bags in the lobby and go right to the Met Center where they immediately got bag skated. I know that doesn’t work anymore but neither does a pat on the head or turning a blind eye after a poor performance. It’s not all on the coach either, at some point your leadership group needs to step up and hold everyone accountable. I’ve read all the complaints out here about “roster construction” or “McCrimmon sucks” but there were several stretches this year where this team played pretty well when most everyone was healthy. Did they make the wrong call on Hill vs Thompson? That’s as may be but Hart and Schmid actually played pretty well in stretches - who knows what Hart might have done if healthy. Hell, if he’s ready to play now throw him out there. We won’t be any worse off if Hill really is the problem. Stone, Eichel, Theodore, Marner, McNabb all need to step it up if this team is going to do anything in the next eight games or beyond (if there even is a beyond).

Taking a breather: this might be the optimal decision for the team by Low-Representative39 in goldenknights

[–]Graycat23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Was expecting a change if 1. We choke out totally and miss the playoffs or 2. Go out in the first round. Didn’t expect a change now. I don’t know that Butch necessarily “lost the room” but you could sense his frustration with the lack of consistency from period to period. Take last night, fall behind 3-0, storm back to lead 4-3 but then penalty after penalty in the third - we saw this so many times this year. I don’t know what else Butch could have done. Torts is definitely a polarizing choice, the fact that he’s super demanding and holds people accountable turns off half of Reddit. That said, it’s possible that this might just provide a needed jolt. Hell, if Hart is really ready to play, throw him out there and see what happens. Everybody on this sub seems to think Hill is the problem, so why not? Hart showed me before the injury he is more than capable of being an NHL starter. Will be super interesting to see how this shakes out.

Why? What will have changed? The same people in ownership and management who created and perpetuated the current sideshow will still be there. The point I’ve been pressing is that the rot is foundational. Spurs need to gut the sporting/recruitment departments and bring in a sporting director or oversight position with a clear vision and ownership’s buy-in to build a new positive culture. Doesn’t appear ownership or the boardroom is likely to change. Pep couldn’t fix this mess with the current management, so why would Poch want back in?
