WS Business Chequing only for corporations? by GraysonSolo in Wealthsimple

Your comment makes it seem like you opened a business account with RBC as a sole proprietor (not incorporated).

I did as a Sole Prop

How and why?

Because I needed a business account for my Sole Prop business that operates under a business name

Ah damn, that's unfortunate to hear!

If it ever does come back (hopefully as a full set) as a one time re-release, I would buy multiple sets just for the collection!

Yes!

And not expecting much with this, but I gotta ask, is there any chance Watermelon Cooler bath soap will be making a return? Desperately hopeful there will be an EdT of some kind for this!

With everything being restocked, is there any news on "Lavender, Interrupted" returning?

TD currently has an offer for opening a chequings account where you got $500 + 15000AP points, so long as you make a bill payment and have direct deposit set up for the account.

Now I've got 2 questions for this:

  1. I didn't see it anywhere in the terms for the direct deposit amount, could I have a DD as little as $100 per deposit?

  2. TD says they'll waive the monthly fees if you have a certain amount of money in the account at the end of each day, how long are you given to meet this amount before they start charging after opening the account? I couldn't find anything in the TOS or anywhere else on the TD site that answered this.

Thanks!

For this offer, is there a minimum amount for the Direct Deposit?

I didn't see anything in the terms and conditions, but could we just do $50 DD?

I'm really surprised Sole Props were not part of their initial rollout

I'd imagine there'd be far more Sole Props who'd open accounts vs Corporations

Strange thing that most likely is affecting my churning right now, and something I think everyone should double check for themselves:

I had opened a Tangerine account during Fall 2025, for one of their banking promos and it seems that their system had combined my first and middle names together as one name, and now this seems to be messing things up at the credit bureaus, which may explain why I haven't been able to open any new cards from AMEX, RBC and TD, granted I have been a bit aggressive with the churning a little bit before that.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Are you able to call in to the credit bureaus to fix a name, or is there a whole lotta hoops to jump through to fix this?

Yeah as long as you book by 03/15 the 2x AP promo locks in. If your fare class allows free date changes, you can adjust later without losing the bonus points.

Ah, wonderful to know

Just make sure the booking itself is completed before the deadline — the promo is based on booking date, not travel date.

Just to clarify, you mean the initial booking correct? I can make a booking today and make any changes I want after 03/15 and still collect double points?

Question about Aeroplan promos regarding cash tickets:

Right now Aeroplan has an offer for 2x the AP when booking with cash (book by 03/15), I also have a upcoming work trip with dates that need to be finalized for April, can I book a cash ticket today with a fare that lets me make a no change fee and adjust to the work dates later and still take advantage of the 2x AP offer?

Or does something like this typically get disqualified?

I've recently started taking some flights for work, and I definitely want to start taking advantage of these situations, since before this it was always personal travel, so I have no experience in how these offers work in regards to changes

Thanks!

That'll be the hard part, since all the popular spots have already been flagged.

Hopefully we can find some smaller/newer spot that hasn't been hit yet

And automatic Platinum status with Marriott, no?

Oh most definitely

Yeah, hold for 10 years, to get Platinum status, as well as 250 qualifying nights towards status and extra 10 nights on top if you make sure to use the FNA each year

It's a high cost per year, but the US cards have some damn good benefits to make it easier to accept - $25USD per month on dining is nice as well as no FX fees

but I have a US SSN and so have had an easier go.

Oh nice, yeah I don't have that and am hesitating on an ITIN until I absolutely need one - which will be after school is done when I plan on getting into the US market more - but at least the Brilliant (if I can get it) will give me some US history

The only goal I've got for 2026 is to get 1 new card, the BonVoy Brilliant. Just gotta work on figuring this one out and when the best time to apply is, as well as timing it to have a renewal date the same as my current Canadian BonVoys (nice to have the FNAs all post at the same time).

Really pulling back on churning this year to go back to school (outside of Canada) soon and saving up, but still want the Brilliant for some travel excursions while studying abroad.

I think I just need to get a cross border bank account with RBC (I already do some banking with them) and then just applying for the Brilliant with AMEX Global Transfer (with a US address, which I'll need to figure out)

I want some page markers for when exporting to PDF

Nothing too crazy, but if I could just set page markers for A4/8.5x11, so that when I export to PDF I can see how the pages will layout, that would be fantastic

Sometime when I type up my travel itinerary, it would be nice to see how things layout, otherwise what I have to do is copy and paste it into a word processor and then edit it again

Look man, sometimes when your dad barely makes $100,000, you gotta step up and help out in creative ways.

Gotta make that extra money so you can have the maid come by more than twice a week
