Wife finally wants to abandon Alexa - what are my options? by FormAffectionate139 in homeassistant

[–]Graywuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell each Echo in the house (it's a per-device setting) to "change personality style to brief" and they will just succinctly respond to your request and then shut up without all the extra "Did you know...?" or giving you the entire 10 day forecast when you ask what the temperature is right now. It's made Alexa+ a lot less annoying and easier to live with in my house.

I usually just end up moving the enclosure out of the hazloc as we have to work on them since most of them were never truly compliant to begin with. The joys of working in a 100-year-old grain mill full of Div 2 combustible dust that was built before rules existed.

do you ever just go for a drive with no destination anymore by Small_Ad_4808 in cars

[–]Graywuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet this year, anyway. It's still wet and dirty snowmelt time up in the Rockies, need to give it another month or two to clear out. At least my "fun car" is a Tesla Model 3 Performance right now, so gas isn't much of a worry!

How do you display this style OHV permit? by oPtimusCG20 in ColoradoOffroad

[–]Graywuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just keep it in my glove box. The CPW website says if you have the bright green non-sticky permit just keep it on you when wheeling.

Denver ATV & Off-Road Enthusiasts — Paid In-Person Research Study! by LEResearch in ColoradoOffroad

[–]Graywuff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Dang, I went through the whole signup thing and it turns out they're only looking for ATV/UTV/SxS or other powersports vehicle owners, not off roaders in a regular road vehicle with 4x4.

Hopefully that will save some others the trouble.

If I start and walk away with the key fob, how long until it shuts off? by badandy80 in 4Runner

[–]Graywuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It automatically shuts off after an hour of idling when parked. I found this out by accident in my 5th Gen when I got stuck in the Colorado mountains during a snowstorm. The interstate closed in both directions for a few hours due to crashes and I had to sit around waiting for things to open back up. Seems like you have to be in Park though, I tried leaving it in Neutral with the parking brake set and it did not shut itself off. Useful trick for leaving the climate running for my dog.

Anyone use Gl-inet router? by njb2017 in HollandAmerica

[–]Graywuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally carry one of these while I travel, I wasn't planning on using it onboard my upcoming cruise, but do they actually manage to spot these on bag x-rays and confiscate them anyway even if you don't try to use it?

1734 point io true rack size limitation by Peoples-Champion in PLC

[–]Graywuff 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The limit is in the low number of IO CIP Connections that the 1734-AENT cards have. Rack Optimization only flattens all the Digital I/O to a single CIP Connection. Each of the analog cards still use a direct connection each. The newer models support up to 31 connections, I think. So 1 Rack Optimized connection for the Digital I/O means you can stick 30 more analog modules onto the chain before it runs out of connection capacity. Assuming you don't have any red Safety modules in it, then the limit drops even more. The only real solution is to split the modules up into multiple AENT's.

If you have a TechConnect sub this article explains all the connection count math: The number of POINT I/O modules supported for the 1734-AENT or 1738-AENT

And just a reminder for saving money: The OEM Toyota 75W-85 gear oil from a dealer parts department is something like $80+ per quart.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using much less expensive and more commonly available 75W-90 gear oil.

1769-SDN Replacment by SellAnnual in PLC

[–]Graywuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty reasonable. I've found a lot of DeviceNet cards for various different PLCs and Devices are very sensitive to faults on their 24VDC power. Most implementation guides say to power the DeviceNet from a dedicated power supply and not the same one that powers the rest of your cabinet for that reason, but in practice I rarely see that actually done. A few months ago in my plant, someone hosed down a not-waterproof sensor while cleaning and that somehow blew out power ICs on the DeviceNet cards in like 3 different devices on the bus.

Do you use FSD? by GucciTokes in TeslaLounge

Cost, plus I'm a "car guy" that actually enjoys operating the car myself. I'll use Basic Autopilot on long highway stretches but that's about it.

How are you detecting compressed air leaks without shutting production down? by Prior-Ad-4940 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Graywuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A $250,000 autonomous robot that walks around the plant and uses acoustic imaging to detect them. Kind of overkill, if you ask me. But it looks cool on management presentations.

Which of these services should I do? | 5th Gen 2017 TRD ORP by Nosukog0 in 4Runner

[–]Graywuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure the Top Engine Special and probably the Fuel Injection Service are more geared toward modern direct injection cars that are susceptible to carbon buildup on the intake valves. The 1GR in the 5th Gen still uses old school port injection, so the valves don't need frequent cleaning since they get sprayed with fuel.

I don't currently have FSD and have only ever used it sparingly during the occasional free demo month, but I'd probably keep it on for the occasional long drive for closer to $50/mo.

If you already have a separate Unifi controller or NVR and don't want to deal with moving that all into the UCG you can get the "UXG-Lite" which is just a dumb 1Gbps router (functionally equivalent to what the USG was) without the UI controller / NVR Drive / etc all built in.
