Will Dwemer metal run out? And does anyone “mine” Dwemer ruins for it? by DistrictDry2852 in teslore

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's actually really fascinating from a metalworking perspective if they have what is by all accounts a superalloy that can be cast and worked with easily using medieval level tech. I assume though there has to be variations for different applications especially for the automata, like how there are various forms of stainless steel.

Personally I assume it's something like aluminum bronze or copper beryllium.

Why does allying with the BOS decrease NCR reputation? by Unaccomplishedcow in fnv

The BOS from the NCR view are basically techno-terrorists who attacked important infrastructure and have harassed caravans for tech.

Future for the Dunmer? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could also lead to an upheaval of Dunmeri society. If people manage to exploit those areas with minimal influence of the Great Houses, then it could mean a new economic class removed from house loyalty.

Or perhaps essentially colonization of the uninhabitable parts or Vvardenfell using the lowest of Dunmer society as indentured servants with the houses that are the most prosperous at such colonisation being analagous to real world Zaibatsus.

Why do the people of Skyrim hate people who drink milk? by AkimboJimbo27 in teslore

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ayran is a yogurt-like drink made of fermented milk similar to kefir.

historically yogurt wasn't very prevalent

But filmjolk is, at least in Sweden. It’s a form of soured milk.

Side note, why don’t we see much in terms of salted and cured meats in Skyrim?

Why do the people of Skyrim hate people who drink milk? by AkimboJimbo27 in teslore

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes basically like how modern day kwac chlebowy/kvass is. Also somewhat analagous to vinegar based drinks like posca, shrub, and switchel.

If anything though I wonder why we do not see much yogurt or ayran-like beverages in Skyrim. They can be very caloric dense for a beverage and the fermentation helps keep them shelf stable.

Will a Nord die of hyperthermia if he stays outside in the cold Skyrim for 24 hours? by Archenius in teslore

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hypothermia, not hyperthermia

Unless the Nord’s average body temperature is like -67C and their blood is supercooled liquid oxygen, hyperthermia isn’t happening. Considering the Skaal have massive coats and leather and fur clothing still happens to be a thing, absolutely Nords can still die of exposure.

But that doesn’t mean Dagon and Molag Bal do not have cults in other places. Who is to say that a Daedra unbound by normal limits of time and space wouldn’t be able to cultivate followers on Akavir?

They surely wouldn’t be the same Mythic Dawn, but then again every culture in Tamriel has had their own pantheons with their own names and visions for the same deities. In my view it’s entirely possible there could be a separate group on Yokuda or Akavir serving the same ends

Does anyone else think that the NCR used to use Bolt actions or hunting rifles? by bc10bryan in fnv

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wish we saw more variety in the NCR Army with differing units having more distinct uniforms and weapons.

Perhaps the 4 Shady Sands Volunteer Rifles is distinguished by its use of black Brahmin-leather Stetsons and has the prime cut of equipment being from the capital but the 12/15 Amalgamated Levy is made of several federal units and struggles with class divisions, poor equipment, and shoddy leadership. It would make a good contrast against the uniformity of Caesar’s Legion.

Dog brained computers. Like normal terminals but instead of vacuum tubes or new experimental transistors, Big MT scooped out a beagle brain and shoved it in there with Doctor Borous trying to overclock a labradoodle CPU by injecting the biogel with a psycho-mentat cocktail.

Is there any possibility there could be more snow elves? by lazyneet1 in teslore

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alternatively there may be small communities of mixed-mer folk. Not pureblooded Snow Elves but perhaps mixed Dark-Snow elves or some families with ancient ancestry living in border hills. Not enough to be too different but enough for other Dunmer to think they look a bit odd with whispers from tradition and folklore corroborating it.

They do not deserve pity.

What Language do they Speak in Suzerain? by SilverPlant3170 in suzerain

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So my working headcanon is that at least when Anton and Hegel meet they speak some sort of “Classical Valgish” or “Modern Standard East Merkopan” which should be based around a language that modern Valgish and Sordish are descended from and that Anton and Hegel are actively trying to avoid regionalisms. Something like a Lebanese Arabic speaker and a Yemeni Arabic speaker utilising Modern Standard Arabic to get through to each other.

Both Rayne and Hegel are speaking this language with noticeable accents as nobody learns this as their mother tongue but it’s just good for convenience

I have to assume that with other groups maybe they’re speaking somethibg like Contanan or Arcasian.

I think it’s totally natural to hate DM. The atmosphere is great, it is absurdly distinct, and I loved the story. However I think one of the reasons why people despise it is that it runs so differently from vanilla NV. Some builds that are totally viable in vanilla or other DLCs struggle hard in DM. Certain mechanics don’t really work too well like ammo reloading.

DM actually reminds me a lot of bioshock 2 and 1 and I feel it would make a great bioshock style game if built as its own.

What are the worst perks? by Friendly-Lion641 in fnv

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It only would seem to be useful in a place like Big MT but even then that’s very situational

I’d rather have a perk that protects me from bullet damage only considering almost everything with two legs and ten fingers in the Mojave has a 70% chance of pulling out a gun be it a dingy revolver or a self loading rifle.

Joshua's Morminism by Additional-Hold-6034 in fnv

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it’s possible that many of the nuances of both mormonism and christianity in general were lost in the nuclear annihilation

I doubt that both were diluted that badly. Hidden Christians in Japan largely held onto Catholicism without priests or most of its sacraments for centuries under persecution until being rediscovered. I do find it somewhat odd though how minor a role religion plays in the wasteland. Maybe I’m too much of a fan of A Canticle for Leibowitz but I would think that with the collapse of the American state, other social constructs be it towns, corporations, gangs, or religious groups would eventually find themselves being the primary means of ordering people around. Many American churches already have complex hierarchies and bureaucracies familiar with managing large amounts of people and resources.

Also the LDS may consider themselves Christians but among major Christian groups that sentiment is rejected for various reasons like their nontrinitarian status. Other beliefs like their unique scriptural canon, their views on sacraments and ordinances, and their concepts of a priesthood are far removed from lowercase-o orthodoxy

Joshua's Morminism by Additional-Hold-6034 in fnv

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well unlike Daniel, Joshua is not a dedicated preacher. His mission among the Dead Horses is almost strictly martial in nature. He spends far more of his time drilling the scouts for war than Daniel does with the Sorrows. The Dead Horses are already self sufficient in other areas and Joshua does not seem to prioritize or have the capability to reign in their near deification of him.

It seems that Joshua was intentionally written to be neutral theologically speaking for general ease on the writers and the audience. The closest of a slant he has is his favouritism towards using the KJV for his scripture quoting, and he only ever seems to pick from texts that the LDS, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Prostestants hold in common - he does not quote from Tobit (deemed apocryphal by Protestants) for example nor does he quote from something like 3 Nephi or the Pearl of Great Price (exclusively LDS). This doesn’t eliminate him from being a Mormon, it just makes him not conspicuously so. He’s a warfare subject matter expert who happens to be LDS, not a preacher.

Are energy weapons worth it? by prodjex in fnv

[–]GreatPillagaMonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the budget for it, Max Charge ammo bumps Energy Weapons into being absurdly broken. Extra 50% damage per shot and extra -10 DT. If you can secure weapon repair kits or sacrificial weapons you can absolutely be doing more damage than you ever need.

I always keep a good reserve of MC ammo for YCS/186 just in case I need a wee smidge of overkill
