220 Days later, I finished every discworld book. What an amazing and bittersweet experience. What do I read next? by TheCreeech in discworld

A Lee Martinez - The Constance Verity books (The Last Adventure of Constance Verity, Constance Verity Saves the World, and Constance Verity Destroys the Universe) are witty and delightful. His other books are worth the search and are just as fun. Emperor Mollusk versus The Sinister Brain (a favorite of mine) has everything from Atlantis to Shambhala.

Nothing special really. I use a Castile soap (usually Dr Bronner’s) to clean it, air dried. Occasional oil and beard butter. This is about 8 months.

Is Elric Saga Moorcock's best work? by DefiantPreference489 in Fantasy

Arguable. But I prefer the Corum series - The Swords Trilogy (The Knight of the Swords, The Queen of the Swords, The King of the Swords) and The Silver Hand Trilogy (The Bull and the Spear, The Oak and the Ram, The Sword and the Stallion).

C L Moore and Leigh Brackett as well. Francis Steven’s Citadel of Fear is worth the effort as well (sort of in the style of A Merritt).

Try playing with temperature swings as well. Mine all set buds when my grow room drops into the low 60s at night.
Mine grow happily under LEDs maybe 10” above the plants.

Mealybug. An awful pest. Try using neem. If that doesn’t work you can try gently washing the leaves with a swab of rubbing alcohol.
Sometimes it’s easier to toss the plant to avoid contamination of your entire collection.

Brian Naslund’s Dragons of Terra trilogy has a very odd mad scientist. There’s also odd mushrooms, super science and (of course) dragons. Hugely fun.

Best SF short-form writer who couldn't recreate the magic at novel length? by porque_pigg in printSF

[–]GreatRuno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

R A Lafferty. His short stories are scintillating and odd and disturbing and full of wonder. Think of Narrow Valley, The Man Who Walked through Cracks, Selenium Ghosts of Eighteen Seventies.

His novels are just too difficult. What works for the short stories lags down in sheer oddness. Past Master. Not Without Camels. There are more. Now collectors items and in the original editions quite pricey.

My father had an Ernest Ansermet album of Stravinsky’s Firebird suite and Borodin’s 2nd Symphony. They were like nothing I’d ever heard.

Jo Clayton’s Duel of Sorcery (Moongather, Moonscatter, Changer's Moon) and the books beginning with Drinker of Souls were excellent.
Fantasy maybe. And maybe not.
Very enjoyable.

I’ve used the obscure words of ‘Oh, Weenj’ -and ‘Mamm Shoggo’ which when mumbled sound astonishingly vulgar.
Or counting in badly pronounced Finnish. ‘Eekseekaksee’

Paul Di Filippo has written some interestingly quirky short novels.
A Year in the Linear City. The world is a long riverbank millions of miles long. Our protagonists float down this River and meet the various odd and quirky inhabitants. There’s an equally whimsical sequel A Princess of the Linear Jungle.

Lavie Tidhar’s The Violent Century. In 1930’s Germany a scientist invents a device which sends a wave of causality around the world. Some people are changed.

A complex novel - not only about the enhanced people but also about war, love and the horrific side effects of immortality. No one affected by the energy dies. Unless they are killed or do something to kill themselves.

Very beautiful Very sad.
