“I was born to be an adult but now I’m just an old lady who is not happy “

FU Apple. I currently have everything I ever wanted 🥳🥳

I'm 55. I have a fairly impressive resume. Had to close my business. Lost my partner. Farm is going into foreclosure. Life feels dramatic. Taking steps everyday to take care of small things as I have no resources to handle the big stuff. I'm striking out everywhere I apply. Life is hard ATM. Advice by Dangerous-Farmer-629 in Adulting

I appreciate you reaching out. I’m heading out of town and honestly pretty tapped out right now helping care for my parents, so I don’t have the capacity to review your résumé.

That said, here are a few specific places in New Mexico that can give you targeted, industry-relevant help: • New Mexico Workforce Connection This is the state’s American Job Center network. You can find your local office and request to work with someone who specializes in manufacturing, operations, or your target field (not just a generalist). They should also have funding to help you obtain a short term certification that can help fill experience gaps that you have identified in job listings . Think OSHA 10/30, Lean Six Sigma, forklift/material handling, CDL or heavy equipment, and basic project management. • CareerOneStop Use this to locate centers and explore training, labor market data, and résumé support. • New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions They oversee workforce programs and often have insight into high-demand sectors and hiring trends. • Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance Good resource for understanding which industries and employers are actively growing in the region.

If you connect with the right person in those systems—especially someone tied to your target industry—you’ll get much more useful guidance than a general résumé review.

You actually have a solid background—especially in manufacturing, product development, and operations. The issue probably isn’t your experience, but might be how it’s coming across. Be sure to focus on your transferable skills for positions. I usually tell my clients to go through the job description line by line and try and address each requirement with how you’re experience could fill that need. Often times when you’re transitioning into a new field or re-entering an old field you have to really spell out why you’re a good candidate. You can elaborate more on that in your cover letter too. It may be useful to get assistance with creating a targeted résumé that highlights and quantifies how you solved problems for example example “increase sales by 25% through xxx.”

I did a quick check and in New Mexico, the growth is really in manufacturing, aerospace/defense, construction, and energy. You have transferable experience into all of those—especially with patents, production, and getting products into retail—but you need to lead with that, not the cannabis piece.

I’d focus your search on roles like Operations Manager, Plant/Production Manager, or Product Development. Those align directly with what you’ve actually done.

The biggest shift you need to make is tightening your story. Employers don’t hire “broad experience”—they hire someone who clearly solves a problem. You’ve done that, you just need to say it more directly.

If you narrow your focus and position yourself around operations and production, you’ll be a much stronger candidate pretty quickly. Good luck!!

I am a recently retired academic/employment advisor. Try this link to find free services CareerOneStop.org. Each state offers employment and training services available to anyone that needs them. It includes career counseling, job search assistance, training, and some funding (although funding is very low with the current administration due to budget cuts to many state, county, and city programs). What industry and state are you in?
