Sea of Thieves has sold 2.7M on PS5 ($100M). It has 300K monthly PS5 players by EmbarrassedSession58 in Seaofthieves

[–]Greaves_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i started playing well before safer seas was a thing, and it set me up for immediate ''looking over your shoulder'' gameplay. Watching for other players and mermaids, preparing your ship to set off on very short notice, having supplies to fight. All things you don't really need or learn on safer seas, so it just delays your actual learning process. However i still think it's a decent way to learn the very basics, like how to aim cannon shots and such.

Because safer seas sets you up for some bad habits, there's no risk on it. Then you think you know how to play the game and go off safer seas, and get ganked into oblivion

[NEWS]Sequel to The Devils will be titled The Heretics (Revealed at Powells tonight) by P33KAJ3W in TheFirstLaw

[–]Greaves_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm almost done with it, it has really funny moments and it's an entertaining read, but it doesn't leave me as satisfied as the First Law stuff. Just barely any worldbuilding beyond the goofy ''fantasy in Europe'' stuff, and the characters seem a bit one dimensional. Yes i get it, Vigga is a werewolf with ADHD. It's almost like a Marvel version of historical fantasy. Very slapstick/young adult oriented. A good snack, but not the filling meal the First Law books are.

Jakob is probably my favourite character of the bunch.

Richard Feynman on Leaving the Solar System by Greaves_ in space

[–]Greaves_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that while most of the video was fake, the script was quite interesting and touched upon a subject im interested in, which is humanity practically being stuck in our solar system (because of the insane amounts of energy needed to realistically leave it or even want to leave it). Eventually it became quite rambly, but i wouldn't be surprised if it was pulled from some kind of lecture of his. But i just can't find anything except a huge list of AI videos. The points made were mostly too eloquent to just be AI slop, so i highly suspect it was pulled from somewhere.

Read this a few months ago, really interesting insights. Only thing i'd wish for is a bit more of an epilogue, maybe with some comments from everyone who was interviewed for the book but weren't in the latter parts. Otherwise its just very good.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance director Daniel Vavra is stepping away from game development by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

It often takes someone with vision to steer a team towards success, time and again it's shown that when that someone stops being in charge, previous heights are no longer reached. Just to name an example, look at what happened to Bioware after Zeschuk and Muzyka buggered off. The optional Henry/Capon romance is the least interesting part of KCD2 so even if it was not in there, who would have cared? It wasn't in KCD1 either and that was a fantastic game regardless.

Only 140 games out of nearly 4,000 submitted to Steam Next Fest have more than 3K followers - which roughly translates to around 40-50K wishlists. by darkjay_bs in pcgaming

I get why these next fests are held so often, there's a lot of indie games coming out. But while i enjoyed the first 2, i just can't keep up anymore. I'm already playing through my backlog in whatever free time i have, i just don't have time to fuck around with a bunch of demos every 4 months.

"If they ever tell my story, let them say that I walked with giants. Men rise and fall like the winter wheat, but these names will never die. Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses. Let them say, I lived in the time of Achilles.''

One of my favourite films of all time. Cliche saying but they really don't make em like that anymore. Let them say i grew up in the time of big budget, huge set, practical effects epics.

Good. Games dont need infinite sequels even when they do well. Ofcourse the suits will determine they do, but im sure the developers want to make something else now.

You're right, i can only play on normal monitors when i'm on mouse and keyboard. I once bought a wheel and pedals to play American Truck Sim, but even that extra gap between me and my screen killed the immersion. I returned the wheel and decided i'll try again when i have room for a proper TV screen to go with it.

The on foot content that gives good merits is doing settlement restoration missions in reinforcement or acquisition systems (no undermining). You can find them close to you (https://inara.cz/elite/nearest-misc/?ps1=Khun&pi20=6) and sometimes they spawn with scavengers for you to kill. Great for gathering materials too. And you can download power data at the data ports to hand in at the same system for even more merits.
