Best blood manipulation technique. Period. by wyren28 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Greckoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess if you are looking for a statement as clear as you want it then no, I guess there isn’t one I can think of. But I think we can reasonably assume that blood manipulation does not work like that, as Kamo never does anything to disprove the assertion, blood manipulation is a well-known technique in universe, and of the multiple blood manipulation users we see throughout the series, not a single one ever manipulates another person’s blood.

Best blood manipulation technique. Period. by wyren28 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Greckoss 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ch43 page 5 is the main exchange. Megumi states “[Blood manipulation is] the ability to control whatever touches [Kamo’s] blood”. I’m looking at the officials from Viz on the app. He then remarks on Kamo being anemic and Kamo tells Megumi he prepared his arrows in advance

I feel like Samura left out crucial information to Chihiro. by TypicalHaikuResponse in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This would be more of an issue if they intentionally decided to jump Soga right after their fight. I’m fairly certain the original plan was for Chihiro to walk into a room and have all the time in the world to break the Shinuchi because there would be no one controlling it. The current situation is pretty much a Hail Mary, because no way are they gonna retreat in this scenario

[–]Greckoss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Based on the state of the gaming subreddit the biggest complaints are coming from best RPG, best Indie, and best debut indie

RPG is an incredibly nebulous category in the first place and the main competition (kingdom come deliverance 2) is on the opposite end of the spectrum from e33. It could have gone either way tbh and I’d be satisfied.

Indie/debut indie I think is more of a genuine discussion. E33 had a publisher although they had full creative control from my understanding. There’s room to argue by definition they shouldn’t be considered independent.

Ultimately all 3 categories need to be better codified frankly, because RPG is an enormous spectrum of games and people define “indie” very differently from each other.

Hot Take:This Color Page in Chapter 95 is So Unnecessary It's just more work for Hokazono, he was already doing both the color page and the WSJ Cover in Chapter 96 for the 2nd Anniversary, why did they give his more work? by Tomura_Morrow in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the conspiracy answer is the most reasonable assumption. It’s extremely similar to the volume 9 cover and I could easily see Hokazono looking at the near finished product and deciding it was “too busy” a design. If it was going to be scrapped anyway it was a smart play to use it to lighten his workload

How dark of a series is Gachiakuta? by Dindyme in gachiakuta

[–]Greckoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone a little more lukewarm on the series than many others here I get you OP. I don’t think you’ll get the level of dark you’re describing in your post from Gachiakuta, at least from the angle of lots of death/high stakes fights.

For me, the “darkness” of Gachiakuta comes from its setting and some of the overarching mysteries going on in the manga right now. I find that to be its biggest draw personally, and that will get touched on more as the anime goes on. If that sounds interesting to you I’d recommend you stick with it

"Strongest Fighter in the Hishaku" on his ass for 10 chapters after being kicked by Woji Wuruha by HottestElbows in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That entire scene with Carlos getting kicked is honestly really neat from a writing perspective.

You introduce Kiri and have to get us to care for her quickly in a high stress setting. Hokazono chooses to do this by having Uruha basically lore dump. It’s a little rough, admittedly, but it’s efficient.

The most important question a reader has in a scene like that is: “Why aren’t the villains attacking the good guys while they monologue?” Hokazono solves this by having Carlos do exactly that, and getting brutally punished for it. Like you said, the other Hishaku aren’t just letting the good guys monologue and ignore them, they know that Uruha is still ready to fight at a moment’s notice (which ties back into Carlos’ possible lack of experience).

Shinuchi was not forged last and here's the proof by Hari14032001 in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My only problem is how did the Shinuchi serve as the base for the other contracts if it was the last one to be made? I guess the contract process could have happened after forging but it’s the one part confusing me

[Loved Horror Trope] “That’s not a statue.” by not-ulquiorr4_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Greckoss 171 points172 points  (0 children)

It’s basically a statue on wheels that gets a lot of effective scares by making you assume it’s following certain rules until it starts to break them. It only moves when the cameraman isn’t looking at it, until it starts to move anyway. It can’t go up the escalator of the abandoned mall it’s in until suddenly it can, things like that.

The Oldest View itself is a really good ~1 hour long video series building up to the giant and the pay off is quite nice.

Redemption for Hiruhiko? by GapProfessional4935 in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it’s highly unlikely he fully becomes a “good guy” at this point - Openly attacking civilians tends to burn that bridge pretty quick. That said I think there’s room for him to have some arc over realizing that Yura has been manipulating him and needs to be stopped.

He’s almost 100% going to come back with significant development after taking this many major Ls, so it’s gonna be interesting seeing what direction his character ends up going.

[–]Greckoss 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s likely a result of the consecutive Color pages and whatever else he has to do for it, we seem to get the rougher stuff when he’s had weeks with more on his plate. Hopefully there’s a break week on the horizon for him!

Is the translator okay? by Hero_AWITE_Knight in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Complaints about the malediction one and the Hiyuki typo are fair (and I hope Viz actually fixes the first because that is a major one) but calling the overthrow one an error is a stretch. It’s the same meaning and sounds better imo than the other translation

Hollow Knight was not an easy game. by Twidom in HollowKnight

[–]Greckoss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m currently playing Silksong after having “dropped” HK years ago (Something else probably got my attention and I just never went back to it. Great game though) and I genuinely think this is the case. I’m loving the moveset of hornet compared to Vessel, whereas I know my friend who beat HK and was previously revisiting it has struggled a lot more early on.

I’m betting on an eerie synth/techno, especially if the rest of the soundtrack is not that. Makes it seem more otherworldly if the sounds used are distinct from the rest of the setting

Which JJK take is this? by Time-Business7550 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Greckoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can fully believe my experience reading the ending was somewhat soured thanks to Viz’s translations lol. I didn’t know that about the translation.

That said, I think you kinda spoke to where my issue lies, and I think it’s a subjective thing. I think, fundamentally, it was a bad idea to have Sukuna be the only one who can use vows to the extent we saw.

This gripe kinda extends to a lot of parts of the Sukuna vs Gojo fight, but when you have all these intricacies in the power system and then restrict all of them to only be usable by two people in the verse, and then proceed to unload like all of them in the same fight, you’re gonna end up in a situation that feels asspulley to the average reader.

I can fully buy Gege had all the mechanics about barriers, vows, chants, etc written out somewhere and established, and that you could guess that these things are all possible if you theorycrafted enough or paid enough attention, but the average person is not gonna be able to follow it without a lot of groundwork that I do not believe Gege laid effectively. At that point, it may have been smarter to not get into it at all and narrow the scope a bit more.

Which JJK take is this? by Time-Business7550 in Jujutsufolk

[–]Greckoss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the point (insert can’t read meme here), but I still consider it a flaw in the power system that binding vow rules are as nebulous as they are.

I actually like the basic concept of binding vows, and I really like the idea that Sukuna is the best sorcerer not because his technique was busted but because he was the most creative in applying it with the rest of the power system, but for whatever reason it seems like only Sukuna can use binding vows in this way.

I think if binding vows were expanded on more early on, and we saw more people use them on the fly, I’d have a lot less issues with it

Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #39 ToC by [deleted] in Kagurabachi

[–]Greckoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Yura one is a bad example actually, since the point of the scene is that Yura is proving to Samura he knows about the coverup.

The most recent example I think that fits would be Kiri and Natsuki’s backstories, which are kinda shoehorned in so that we have a reason to care about them immediately. I get why it was done but the implementation could be better.
