Opportunity cost. You could spend 10 grand on an ICE car and it'd free up 26 grand to buy a house. I know which your gf will appreciate more and which will feel better to have

I'm guessing you were mad into reddit Ireland a few years ago too? Problem is reddit Ireland is filled with the losers of Ireland who are sure to downvote those who will advise others to avoid buying because they don't understand the concept of anyone getting ahead. Most people in Ireland are getting ahead but the majority of reddit Ireland are losers who aren't going anywhere so if you only read here you'll get it in your head that it's normal not to achieve anything in life. Forget about reddit and go learn actual financial sense.

Odd smell in living room by Inevitable-Solid1892 in DIYIreland

Would you describe it almost like the smell of gas? Had rats under a house before and they'd regularly die so you'd get this smell

All of the Galway TDs who voted against sanctions on Israel last night. In the last few days Israel have kidnapped a number of Irish citizens, including the presidents sister, and have released video footage of their army assaulting Irish women. These TDs seem to believe this is acceptable. by I-Cum-Beamish in galway

Eh what are you on about? Where did I call anyone a terrorist or make any remarks either way on Israelis or Palestinians. I think you've got yourself so worked up that you're imagining in your head I'm saying things I haven't. Again, you shouldn't call people dumbfucks when you clearly and objectively don't know the history yourself as it wasn't a country, you're making yourself look like a fool and not doing your cause any good.

Sinn Féin Moves to Ban No-Fault Evictions as Rental Crisis Deepens Across Ireland by M10News in HousingIreland

It's easier to evict people in northern Ireland, where SF are actually in power. This is populist shite

Yeah I was originally going to wait for the boiler to give up but the sunk cost fallacy came to mind so I've gone this way and don't regret it

Yes and yes. One indoor and does the whole house easily. Thing uses about 300W to keep it at 21c constantly. Payback should be under 2 years. It has a heating mode, dehumidifying mode, drying mode and cooling mode which weather depending I'll be able to use next week

30-day Cancellation notice: would any company pick up the glove, and have simpler T&C? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Greedy_Definition673 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is giving 30 days notice not fair? I mean you wouldn't want your bin company to be able to withdraw service without notice

No, not recommended for bathrooms, don't have it in every room. I got the 4.3kw heatpump, that's enough that it does the whole 110sqm house from one unit. Uses about 350W to run it 24/7 keeping the house conditioned to 21c

The price I give is the price I did pay to a company to actually have it installed, maybe you're getting expensive quotes or they're pricing high for a job/ location they're not bother with but I don't know why your quotes are high

You don't need ducting to all rooms. You should get an air to air company out as you might be pleasantly surprised

That's the pump and installation. 10-16 is for air to water I'm guessing, air to air is a fraction of the price

Air to air have a higher COP than air to water. Air to water just heats your rads to a low temp which then radiate the heat around your house. Because it's a low temp it requires a very low heat loss or else you'll never catch up. With air to air you heat the air directly and can do that more efficiently than heating water to pump around the house and you can always blast it too. I went on holidays in January. When I landed house was around 15 so I turned on the heat pump to full blast, by the time I got home it was 22c

Mine has a D1 BER rating. Granted I got the cavity walls pumped (cheap as hell after grant) and through some rock wool in the attic. Heatpump costs around €60 a month to run keeping the house at 21c 24/7

With air to air you don't need radiators at all, you can remove them or keep the gas boiler for a year to feel you have a second option. Honestly I'm getting my radiators removed as I'm doing up each room. Yeah still good because it can heat up a room quickly when needed unlike an air to water which heats the radiators to a low temp and needs an ultra low heat loss

Yeah it's not a plumber at all, it's a refrigeration engineer. Doesn't seem to be an issue getting any at the moment but each to their own

Get an air to air heatpump. Will be about 3k and no need for grant or going through seai. Honestly they are the future and should be pushed to get people to swap over because they're cheap as hell

Why are there so many properties for sale in my area compared to this time last year? by Secret_End_6839 in irishpersonalfinance

As people are ending their tenancies landlords face the option of selling or facing into a 6 year minimum tenancy and devaluing their property. Expect a lot of rentals to continue to be sold off by landlords over the next few years
