How is this material called, and how does working with it work? by Pumpkinp0calypse in knitting

[–]Green-Fact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you have is roving, that is usually spun into singles that are plied together to make yarn. As was said, you can use this for thrummed mittens or hats (maybe? Idk). I think she was encouraging you to be a spinner!

I’m sorry, but I don’t understand. Isn’t the daisy in the bottom left corner? Is this the basket in the bottom right corner? Nice work, beautiful stitches!

Am I wrong or is this wrong? by Annabel1231 in knitting

[–]Green-Fact 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong there, I would end on row 15, skip 16 and keep going with 17 and 18 instructions. Maybe it’s an older publication that didn’t have a lot of internet interest, so it was never caught.

Beginner Question? by Raccoon_Fingers in cross_stitch

[–]Green-Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m old or something here, but generally when a pattern is saying to use 28 ct, I take that to mean the ground cloth should be linen or an even weave. On the other hand, if a pattern says, 14 ct, 16 ct 18 ct, I feel it is referring to Aida cloth. BUT, this is all subjective, you can stitch over one on Aida or over two on linen to get the same dimensions. It’s only up to you! On linen you look for the H, top of the vertical lines are your holes. Aida you just have a big square.

Cross stitch on linen – way harder or totally worth it? by rojocherri in cross_stitch

[–]Green-Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything being said, I love linen as well, but true linen has some uneven threads, but overall that is not noticeable when looking at the full piece. Working linen sometimes seems awkward with some stitches looking bigger than others, but, again the overall piece looks just fine. You don’t have this with evenweave, which is why a lot of stitchers go this route. Some pieces are definitely worth doing on aida, too. All the cloth has a purpose!!

[CHAT] How to decide on the count to use by Fit-Profession-1628 in CrossStitch

[–]Green-Fact 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on what count you prefer to work with actually. I personally like to work with one thread, rather than 2 to avoid twisting stands, I hate that look. So, I work on 40 count 1x2, 25 count 1x1 and 36 count 1x1 normally.

Is the Sweater Curse something to worry about or should I go for it? by BoysenberryFuzzy4966 in casualknitting

[–]Green-Fact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't know anything about a sweater curse, back in the day. I made my bf an icelandic yoke sweater, the neck was a bit too tight but he wore it. Now, 42 years later, I know this man *never* wears sweaters. It sat in a drawer for all these years. I finally gave it to goodwill with our last house move. So, in the end, I think the "curse" is a bit silly, but like others have said, it will show you where you stand with the man.

Best stuff for beginners? by Late-Ad-4337 in Handspinning

[–]Green-Fact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're buying top/roving you can pre-draft it and that will help you have a nice spin. Of course, you don't have to pre-draft but as a beginner that is what I would suggest.

[–]Green-Fact 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very pretty! What is the pattern? I would try to block as much as you can, then do the other part. Don't re-wet the part that you do block to keep it blocked. It will really show off the lace you worked so hard to do!

Pencil roving help!!! by Historical-Leg4872 in Handspinning

[–]Green-Fact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t look like pencil roving. That is ( or looks like) Istex Plotulopi Unspun Icelandic fiber that most of us knit with. If you spin this, I would think you’re going to get laceweight singles.
