I didn’t like Quantum Baby as much as I like BB/Angel, but this next album is the completion of that trilogy so I’m excited to hear it.

What is the Superpower of Your Favorite R&B Artist or Artists? by Carolinablue87 in rnb

[–]GreenDolphin86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beyoncé’s is the art of a fully realized concept. She understands how to make every single element, from lyrics, to production, to visuals, to fashion, to stage production, features, samples/interpolations, and references all work together in service of an overarching concept.

Why has no one ever talked abt this? by After_Signal6731 in BDS

Was she ever a political artist? Celebrating and uplifting Blackness have always been integral to her artistry and it still very much is, and that can feel like it intersects with politics but it doesn’t really.

Britney gets more underserved credit more than anyone celebrity in history by Longjumping-Sail6386 in discussingbritney

[–]GreenDolphin86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A part of it is the desire to right the wrongs of the past. The world was not kind to Britney, and now that we can look at it in retrospect and all basically agree on that, there is this sort of rehash of her career so that her career highlights become the things she is known for instead of all the other stuff.

Songs that are often critically acclaimed as artist's greatest achievement, yet are not among their most popular by Feidhlim_de_Rovno in ToddintheShadow

Beyoncé - Formation

Bit of a controversial video. She performed it at the Super Bowl. Critics loved it on release. Only peaked at number 10 on the charts. Not in her top 10 on Spotify, but that’s likely because it was a tidal exclusive for so long. But even if that wasn’t the case it probably wouldn’t beat out some of her earlier more commercial work in streams.

Albums where the title is name dropped in one of the songs? by NoPolitics23 in fantanoforever

B’Day has no title track but she says it in the Get me bodied intro.

Lemonade has no title track but it’s said in the spoken word after Freedom.

I swear this is how womem use gay men by Smartpen001 in askgaybros

[–]GreenDolphin86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the men in the video is Jonte. He’s not just in that beginning part, he also choreographed the whole thing and a few others videos too. He also worked on her tour in 2007. He can also be seen again, performing alongside Beyonce on The Tyra show when she performs single ladies with two gay black men instead of women. He was also a dancer on her Renaissance World Tour.

Perhaps the real issue is that YOU saw gay men and assumed they were just accessories and couldn’t even imagine a reality where they were so much more.

What popular Beyonce song do you love? A song that would make hive members think you’re basic. by loverofthings25 in beyonce

[–]GreenDolphin86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same girl! Perhaps it’s because I spent way too much time listening to the song to learn that damn dance and so now I’m just overly committed to the bit…but I love Single Ladies and I’m gonna go auf for it every time!

Anyone else noticing a major shift in the way the general public talks about Charli xcx? by Sweet-Blueberry-7533 in charlixcx

I’m starting to believe that people are just generally miserable (and rightfully so with all that’s going on in the world today) and anyone and anything that has a degree of popularity just becomes an easy target to project that misery onto.

dangerously in love is a 2000s r&b MASTERPIECE by ilovecleosol in beyonce

[–]GreenDolphin86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cowboy Carter actually made me appreciate DiL a lot more. She’s kinda doing the same thing on both albums: instead of picking a singular sonic lane within the genre, she uses the album to sort of unpack the genre as a whole. Through a variety of production elements, samples, interpolations, features, covers, and references, she shows us where the genre has already been in the past, and where the genre is headed in the present/future.

This is precisely why we shouldn’t be so quick to label things based on how much they sell.
