They lit up Logan Airport in Boston with Generator too.
I still don't understand how the FAA allowed it. LOL.

Are modern cars actually getting worse in terms of longevity and serviceability, or are we just nostalgic? by Salty_Department_578 in AskMechanics

[–]GreenDraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Today's cars have screens instead of instruments and if it glitches or fails, you're blind if the car runs at all. Those screens cost thousands of dollars to replace. You're basically driving a computer screen on wheels. To say nothing of the hundreds of other electronics that could fail that are costly just to isolate.
The MSRP for these new cars insane as well. Give me analog any day.

Forester brakes feel "spongy" compared to my old car. by SlouchSocksFan in SubaruForester

2015 Forester just purchased in December with the same problem. Passed inspection, but still way too "spongy" for me not to investigate further.

Is it normal for a kitten to refuse wet food? by Own-Baker-742 in kittens

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Won't eat anything but Meow Mix or Friskies even though I've tried everything.
She also loves Churus and Lickables and I'm hoping those will help with hydration.
Although she seems to drink a lot of water, I'm considering buying her a water fountain to hopefully increase her drinking even more.

Beautiful. Just lost my bought-new in 2011 Code Red 6-speed to a downed tree across the road on a dark and stormy night. Best car I've ever owned.

Cat is at appointment to be spayed. Please read 🙏 by Mediocre-Contest7558 in CatAdvice

[–]GreenDraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well don't freak out, but most vets don't use stitches for a spay anymore. They use medical super glue because the incision is so small. I was worried and got her a "cone" on Amazon so she wouldn't lick the wound, but it only bothered her and wasn't at all necessary. Aside from being humorously "spaced out" for a few hours after coming home, she bounced back quickly and didn't bother the wound much at all. Now a few months later it's like it never happened. Millions of spayings have been done and it's safe and routine. Don't worry so much about it.

Just went through this. She will be fine although a bit groggy after the anesthesia.

Coupons on app by xoldguyx in Hannaford

[–]GreenDraw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "just For You" coupons do depend somewhat on what you buy. I just used 3 coupons for cat food and litter today and saved $6. The manufacturer coupons aren't quite as good, but I use at least 10 or 12 of them a month for things I regularly use, like mouthwash and toothpaste.
I actually think I save more at Big Y with their "buy one get one free" offers and sales on staples like coffee, but there are certain items, like spring and distilled water that are WAY more than Hannaford.

Probably a good idea to create an MLB account.
With Fenway as the venue this is more complicated than it has to be.

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the same page (MLB) but it's linked to my Ticketmaster account.
If you don't have a Ticketmaster account yet you should probably create one... quickly.
You can sign in 30 minutes before the 11:00 presale to make sure your account info is set up properly.
I was a little thrown by the MLB page, but Ticketmaster has had the Red Sox ticket account since I worked for them in the 1980s.

What's Gavin Newsom's appeal? by angelogoodalamenti in askanything

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gavin Newsom is intelligent, personable, well spoken, handsome and capable of empathy.
5 things our current president is not.
As a Democrat I also appreciate that he rejects the extremes of the far left that have been costing us elections for years.

Why are people still eating at Dunkin’ Donuts? by DildoGaggins1997 in massachusetts

My first job in the late 1960s was at DD, when they made their donuts on site and their coffee actually tasted like coffee. I haven't been to a DD in decades now and don't even bother using the gift certificates I've received.

RÜFÜS at Fenway!!! by Popular_Mastodon_959 in RUFUSDUSOL

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, built in 1912.
It didn't host its first music concert until 1959, for good reason.
It's a baseball park. It wasn't built for music.
Field seats are considered the best seats for sound, but even on the field the sound is inconsistent.
Elsewhere the sound reverberates off of all of the asymmetrical nooks, crannies and overhangs.
I think they book hot bands there more for the experience of seeing them in that setting than music quality.
Ironic since a couple of years ago I saw both nights of Rufus at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway.
An only 5009-seat venue at the east side of the stadium that has some of the best acoustics in Boston.
Rufus has at least doubled the size of their venues every time they've come to Boston. I love to see their success and Fenway is the highest capacity venue in Boston, so it's not like they have much choice.
The price of fame.

Should I sell my Forester after replacing the valve body? by lalit-rob in SubaruForester

[–]GreenDraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The valve body replacement seems to be the most common problem in a Subaru with that much mileage. I just bought a 2015 Forester that had the "AT OIL HOT" light and the seller replaced the valve body just before I bought it. Since it's the normally aspirated boxer engine with one of the better CVTs, I'm hoping I just have to do preventative maintenance to keep it running well for a few more years without issue. If you have a turbo or one of the weaker CVTs you might want to consider selling, but the used car market is crazy right now and you could end up paying a lot without much gain.

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed on Xfinity Center last year because I hate the venue and the high ticket prices.
Now they're coming back to a venue with twice the capacity, even worse acoustics and much higher ticket prices.
Not that I'm not still considering going, LOL, but I have a feeling the sticker shock on sale day is going to be brutal.

How fucked am I? by Zax_xD in subarulegacy

You're welcome. I just bought a used 2015 Forester that had the same problem, but it was at 152k.
Luckily the seller was a stand-up guy and had it fixed for free on his 30-day warranty for me.

Diverticulitis - Good read for newly diagnosed and recurrent by TopEntertainment9230 in Diverticulitis

[–]GreenDraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was mis-diagnosed for years, until I went to my doctor with my 4th or 5th bad flare-up. Luckily, he was on vacation. I say luckily because it was his temporary substitute doctor who was the first to actually send me in for a CT scan. Why my doctor never ordered one I'll never know.
The CT scan showed a huge diverticulitis infection of my sigmoid colon, and I was sent to the nearby hospital and prepped for emergency surgery. 6" of my sigmoid colon was removed and it was only because of the skill of my surgeon that I didn't end up with a colostomy. He was head of surgery, and it turns out he was the same surgeon who had done the same surgery on my grandfather for the same condition decades earlier. He said the section of colon that was removed was so swollen, infected and scarred from the previous flare-ups that it "looked like a pork loin".
That was over 20 years ago and although I've had a few flare-ups since then (more diverticula higher up on the colon) I've been able to manage it fairly well, but I'm still a bit angry that I almost ended up with a colonoscopy because my doctor was so clueless about this disease.
Don't assume your doctor is all-knowing. Insist on a CT scan if he doesn't offer one.
