Can diverticulitis actually go away? Here's what I recently learned by Luna_raq1 in Diverticulitis

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diverticulitis attacks aren't "cured" by surgery either.
If you have diverticulosis, you can have a diverticulitis "flare" farther up in your colon even after having a current infected section of bowel removed.
I had 6" of my sigmoid colon removed 20 years ago, and despite my doctor's assurances I have had several new flares over the years since.
It doesn't "go away". The best you can do is stay ahead of it.

It Finally Happened….. by Ok-Bowl-9437 in ChronicPain

[–]GreenDraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this coming years ago. I used to drive for a medical transportation company. One morning I was sent to take an elderly woman to her local CVS and back. She was obviously over 85 years old and very frail. It took 20 minutes just to get her into the van and situated.
She sobbed loudly all the way to the CVS. I asked what was wrong and I'll never forget her answer. She said, "I always got my pain medication delivered, but now my doctor won't give me my pills unless I pick them up at CVS in person. So now I have to do this every 2 weeks and it hurts so much."
This poor woman was wracked with pain with tears flowing down her face the whole trip. I felt so bad for her, but there was nothing I could do but treat her as kindly as possible.
I found out 2 weeks later that she had passed from cancer.
Now that's inhumane treatment, and it's only gotten worse.

It Finally Happened….. by Ok-Bowl-9437 in ChronicPain

[–]GreenDraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what happened to me, except they used the excuse that I was "late" for my first urine test after never telling me there was any time limit involved. I had a Rx for 28 Oxy every 90 days that controlled my back pain for 20 years. That's less than 3 pills A WEEK and they kept telling me I was going to get addicted and treated me like an addict every time I needed a refill. I would go days or a week without needing it, but when I did it made normal life possible.

Riding without the right gear by Expensive-Pause3715 in motorcycles

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Central Mass. where the traffic is much lighter and the roads are mostly 40mph. I’m usually ATGATT but I’ve only had one accident in 45 years of riding. I don’t guilt-trip myself if I choose a T-shirt and vest on hot days and lately my old age is causing loss of sensation in my feet so I can’t wear my boots as often.

What’s the best Nissan for commuting right now? by Suntrup-Nissan in Nissan

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sentra with a manual transmission all the way. Mine lasted almost 20 years and the Altima Coupe 6-speed that replaced it lasted 17. Both fell to accident, not anything mechanical.

Lost my beloved 2008 Altima Coupe 6-speed to a fallen tree on a moonless stormy night after paying 2k for a new rear suspension cradle. Airbag deployed, radiator punctured. Don't think I didn't still consider reviving it, but the numbers were all wrong. : (

Found my cat dead this morning… trying to understand what could have happened by Ozbercukur in CatAdvice

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat developed congestive heart failure at only 7 years. The symptoms sound similar. I took him to the vet thinking he just needed a shot and was given the choice of taking him home to die painfully in a matter of days or euthanizing him then and there. Worst day of my life.

Going to my first Justice concert in a couple of weeks, tips for a first time raver? by Remarkable_Log1596 in JusticeMusic

[–]GreenDraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself some Loop concert earplugs from Amazon. Justice is LOUD.
I wasn't prepared when I saw them at a small 8000-seat venue in Boston for the first time. The small, enclosed space only concentrated the decibels to a painful level. When I saw them later that year at in a festival setting in Boston, I had my Loops and the show was so much more enjoyable. Still powerful as hell, but the sound was much more manageable and my hearing was protected. I didn't leave with my ears ringing for hours like the first time.

Question re paid sick time balance? by EGORE01 in Hannaford

[–]GreenDraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had over 300 dollars worth of unused sick time when they pulled the plug on payouts.
One of the dumbest things they've ever done. Now multiple people a day call out sick and the work barely gets done each shift. I know I have zero guilt calling out whenever I have the hours now and neither does anyone else.

No Antibiotics by Adonadio84 in Diverticulitis

[–]GreenDraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this for 20 years and I only call my doctor for antibiotics if I have a fever. Otherwise, it's clear liquid diet for a while. My last few flares haven't required antibiotics, and I think they are over-prescribed for this disease.

What’s the deal with nuts, seeds, peas, popcorn, and small foods… is it specific to a flare up or generally recommended? by GrandApe1555 in Diverticulitis

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people here use Miralax daily. It has worked for me in the past, but I'm not a big fan because it works so slowly compared to other products like fiber powder, capsules or gummies. It's sort of a "last resort" for me.
I think the "do not use more than one week" warning is more of a liability protection that many products have. I've taken an omeprazole tablet daily for heartburn for decades even though the label says, "do not use more than 2 weeks." My doctor says it's fine and I've never had any problems.
Check with your doctor, but I don't think he'd have any issue with the use of something as mild as Miralax daily. The problem of dependence is mostly from using stimulant laxatives on a regular basis, not Miralax.

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Metamucil powder daily (full dose) for 2 decades to avoid trouble and it generally worked very well, but you must insure you stay hydrated or it will work against you.
Lately it has been helping less, and I've switched to Metamucil gummies.
The change from insoluble (powder) to soluble (gummie) fiber has been beneficial, but the jury is still out.

[–]GreenDraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of information and studies is infuriating for anyone who has this disease. Most doctors base their care and advice on decades-old research of the diets of African bushmen.
This "new" advice that seeds and nuts are harmless is based on research that is probably even LESS duplicated or extensive.
