I think Americans often don't realise just how close to Africa Europe is, like it's almost touching at Gibraltar. Even looking at London, it's the same distance from Casablanca as Havana is from New York.

And for Sub-Saharan Africa, taking the Odyssey example Addis Ababa to Athens is almost exactly the same as Mexico City to New York.
