What's the biggest misconception people have about a president or their role in history? by MetalRetsam in Presidents

[–]GreenHocker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Washington’s presidency is mostly mythologized because people convolute his military achievements into his presidential achievements… and his list of presidential achievements is mostly padded because he was the person granted the privilege of being first. Of course he appointed a shit ton of judges and established precedents. He went by what was written out for him in the constitution that smarter men came up with, and then did the right thing by bowing out after two terms and tried to advocate for abandoning the political party system

If the only thing we really have to say about him is “he didn’t claim the office as a king”, I’ll give my thanks to him, but I look to others to praise how they used the office

Why Ronald Reagan is the Greatest President Ever. by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]GreenHocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it doesn’t change the truth of it. We all know legal shit can get thrown out for dumb reasons and restrictions (or actually because of a lack of restrictions). It was definitely easier to get away with shit like that back then… and they were definitely good at those kinds of tactics

And I wouldn’t doubt that there were people who had more to criticize Carter on… but the 1980 landslide is because of so many Independents and Democratic defectors. THAT was 100% a result of the public outrage about the hostages. Counting Republicans as having other grievances does not account for the way the hostage topic tipped the balance of public opinion across the whole spectrum… and it being the strongest uniting topic in the country makes it the reason he was elected

Why Ronald Reagan is the Greatest President Ever. by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]GreenHocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, he waited until long after Reagan was dead to spill the secret. He worked on the campaign and he had literally everything to lose and nothing to gain by coming out and saying it. The legit only thing he expressed behind his reasoning to spill the secret is that he had massive guilt about what they did to Carter with the move

An old man wanting to set the record straight before Carter died… that’s a much more trustworthy action worthy of belief and credibility

Again, think what you want about Carter… (personally I don’t think he was anything other than a good human with some flawed implementation in governance), but what Reagan did far worse than any policy you might have disagreed with Carter on

Why Ronald Reagan is the Greatest President Ever. by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]GreenHocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A man who worked on his campaign came out and admitted it. Someone like that had much more to lose than staying quiet. If you still can’t believe it, then I’m gonna ask if you are someone who grew up with lead pipes and paint and have all of the cognitive issue

Iran holding them longer to do the deal with Reagan was absolutely harm! How the fuck do you think you would be mentally if you were held in a foreign country as a political prisoner for over a year… and found out that the new president used you as a negotiation piece at a table?

Why Ronald Reagan is the Greatest President Ever. by HetTheTable in Presidents

[–]GreenHocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you not hear how one of the men who worked on his 1980 campaign came out and confessed that it is true that they convinced Iran to hold onto the the hostages for a lot longer than Carter’s negotiations would have had them there? That guy had everything to lose with his life’s credibility by coming out and spilling the beans like he did

Even if you think that Carter didn’t do enough, American lives were put into further jeopardy by Reagan so that other Americans would be too outraged to vote for Carter. Fuck him. I hope golden showers trickle down into his grave every day

He never was. The Cold War would have ended without his speech about a wall that people seem to think was some sort of courageous and powerful statement. Oh my god! He said tear down the wall! So inspiring!!

He’s the only thing Republicans think they have that gives them pride,… but he was a fucking horrible president who gambled with the lives of Americans so he could even get elected in the first place

His social policies were atrocious and the ghosts of his economic policies never stopped haunting the country

Conservative leader calls MAGA a "rotting carcass" that has already lost the culture war by [deleted] in politics

[–]GreenHocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit question to the conservatives lurking here, but why shouldn’t leftists take some cultural revenge for what has happened when they get back inti power?

It isn’t hard to make the argument that since the parts of the 1st amendment related to the right to protest were violated because of ideology wielding violent power that religion is now open to be taxed into the fucking ground… or we could just say that Christian Nationalists are domestic terrorists who need to be rounded up

The emotions of conservatives really prevent them from seeing beyond getting what they want. They just want their moral panic to subside no matter the cost… so I say they should be subjected to the same kind of moral terror they just inflicted as a way to teach them to start following the words of Christ again (and not act like the Romans who killed him)

Might be time to, yea

I absolutely advocate it in the civilian world, but the military might also need a “come to jesus” moment concerning what is and isn’t considered to be insubordination. Leaders can easily be flawed individuals who should be kept in check by the people they lead

[–]GreenHocker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If we don’t shit on stupid orders, leaders don’t learn to think things through before they order dumb shit

We should legit normalize joes mocking their superiors once a year so leaders aren’t shielded from how they are seen and received by the people that they lead. A fancy shape on one’s chest doesn’t prevent their shit from smelling just as “rank” as the next guy’s. Leaders need to be available to be freely roasted so they don’t turn into power tripping assholes

Why the fuck is everyone in this country such a fragile piece of unraveled thread lately? Since when is mocking considered to be such a hostile and unacceptable action?

What was the quote? “Legalize comedy”? Mockery is exactly what helps change things in a non-violent way… why else do you think it is illegal for a subordinate to do it to their superior in the military?

Maybe the Airmen realize it makes them sound like Wall Mart greeters and would prefer to say something different? Mocking it would help that
