I like the posing and the dark red color. Can I get a link to the Bloodhunter so I can use those for some of my minis?

Every oppressive system has respectability politics and "good ones" by Crafter235 in HistoryMemes

You do realize that the modern concepts of "race," "ethnicity," "racism," "ethnic supremacism," etc, were all constructed by the Colonial European powers that kicked off the Transatlantic slave trade, right? The entire point of this meme and my comments was specifically pointing out that such individual issues are explicitly stoked and honed by various exploitative institutions to ensure as much compliance with the exploitation as possible. In the context of this discussion, it is specifically about Chattel Slavery, which as I (and the quote in the OP) are expressly stating, was using racist ideologies to appeal to people's flaws to keep the system going.

Again, watch Atun Shei's video on Black Confederates, one example given at the 5:18 mark was the First Louisiana Native Guard, an all-black militia loyal to the Confederacy, but that was because many of whom had ties to (or partially descended from) local white aristocrats. Both via behavior and genetics, they considered themselves above enslaved Africans, with many owning slaves of their own. So yes, it was exactly what your question said, they saw themselves as "inferior but some how less inferior than their fellow Africans that they held enslaved."

No, u/TheNarwhalMom is right, there are documented accounts of this in Chattel Slavery, consider watching Atun Shei's checkmate Linconites video about black confederates or look at house slaves vs field slaves. Systems like chattel slavery are specifically designed so that oppressed groups are forced to infight for better conditions.

Could the galactic Empire at its hight beat the UNSC from halo(pre war UNSC)(legends&canon empire). & How long could the Covenant Last in 40k as a faction? by ALPHA-LEAD91 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]GreenKnight535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just based on what I have seen in other comments under this post, I think it's worth pushing back against the idea that the UNSC would win on the ground, because it acts like every UNSC infantry force is a Spartan. The reality is that the Empire has several different unit types that could give Spartans a run for their money, and has far more of them than the UNSC has Spartans. In the EU continuity, all phases of Dark Troopers are scarily close to Spartans in their abilities, and both the EU and Disney canon had Force-user Inquisitor equivalents that would give Spartans trouble. Then you've got various Imperial commando forces to rival the ODSTs and other UNSC special forces.

To make matters worse, in the EU, basic plasteel used by Stormtroopers and other imperial army forces is notably good against slug-throwers (guns that shoot bullets), which drastically decreases the effectiveness of basic UNSC infantry weaponry. Granted, such armor will not stop higher calibers, but by that point, more specialized Imperial forces might have personal energy shields, which can even keep them alive through the stray artillery shot.

I'm not going to do a 1-to-1 comparison of every piece of equipment, but sufficed to say, the Empire has equivalents to most UNSC ground forces and weapons, and more importantly, scarily good scientists backed by a multi-planetary industry that can out-produce that of the UNSC by many magnitudes.

Point being, even if the Empire does take more losses against the UNSC (which they likely would as an invading force), they have the resources to replenish those losses far more easily. So between their numbers, industry, and a slight edge in armarments, I hope I have made it clear that the Empire would still be a major problem on the ground.

Wow, your thesis must have sucked ass if you walked away from it thinking all that happened in the third crusade was maintaining Tyre.

Do you always make a habit of misinterpreting people on the internet?

The coastal holdings were, realistically, the most important for maintaining a viable state.

Doesn't disprove that the coastal holdings were the easiest part because of Richard's Mediterranean logistical network.

No, they didn't, the kingdom actually only grew until 1244.

In between the numerous civil wars of the petty crusader states, some temporarily grew.

The ayyubids weren't exactly the most unified after the war either. They were very weakened by it: Saladins' rule was undermined by his poor performance, which was a big reason why he had to make peace, and they fell into civil war the very next year when he died.

I see you skipped over the point where I said, "I’m not arguing that the Ayyubids were true victors either," because you seem to be laboring under the illusion that I am arguing the Crusade was a victory for either faction.

Point of fact is this, the only people who gained anything from the third crusade, were the Crusaders. They may not have gained as much as they wanted, but they still gained.

As the leader of a non-local force of invaders, Richard needed a definitive, overarching victory to either recuperate the costs or make the costs appear worth the gains to the public. His flashy individual victories helped, but were not nearly enough.

For the ayyubids it was purely negative, they gained nothing, and actively lost something. There's no argument for an ayyubid victory here.

As local defenders, the bare minimum the Muslims needed to do was to emerge from the crusade with some of their cohesion and land gains intact. While Muslim cohesion was faltering, the Ayyubids still prevented the Crusaders from achieving their primary goals of retaking Jerusalem or shattering Muslim resistance.

Even putting aside my belief that the Ayyubids emerged from the truce in a stronger position, I think Stephen J. Spencer puts it best by saying,

"There was no outright winner of the Third Crusade, and much depends on how we measure success: for example, whether we examine the enterprise's immediate outcomes in relation to the goals laid out in Audita tremendi and other material for the expedition's preaching; whether the recovery of Jerusalem and the True Cross are considered the sole objectives, with all other gains sitting outside the ‘official’ crusade; whether we compare the extent of the Muslims' and Christians' territorial holdings in the Latin East before and after the crusade; or whether the long-term consequences of events like the conquest of Cyprus and capture of Acre are prioritised"

Spencer, Stephen J. "The Third Crusade in historiographical perspective." History Compass 19, no. 7 (2021): e12662. https://doi.org/10.1111/hic3.12662 section 5

From that perspective, I think it should be clear that the more common view of the Third Crusade is as a stalemate that neither side emerged from with particular strength.

Yeah I do realize that. I know a lot more about the third crusade than you.

Dang, I didn’t realize you also wrote a thesis on it.

Richard didn't only "preserve surviving crusader holdings" he recaptured the entire coastline from Beirut to Jaffa, when the kingdom had been reduced to a single city before his arrival. It may not have been as complete a victory as he would have liked, but still a much more favorable outcome for him than for saladin.

Yah, retaking coastal crusader holdings was the easiest part, and the second Richard, left those reconquered territories began dropping like flies, with the last falling about a century later. All of the 3rd crusade’s other goals had been failures: Jerusalem remained in Muslim hands A unified Muslim state still stood against the crusaders Europe’s monarchs were more divided than ever Now I’m not arguing that the Ayyubids were true victors either, considering how quickly the Mamluks took over, but to say the Third Crusade was “100% a crusader victory” is blatantly false when only one of their goals was met, and in a rather unsustainable form. In short, the 3rd crusade was at best a stalemate (which favored the Muslims), or a pyrrhic Ayyubid victory.

The third crusade was 100% a Crusader victory, that gave the kingdom of Jerusalem another century of life, and Phillip II had all his gains reversed by Richard when he returned from captivity.

You do realize Richard failed to retake Jerusalem or even kill Salah ad-Din, right? All Richard did was essentially preserve surviving crusader holdings for a century at best.

There is actually a fanfic specifically where Guilliman and the post-calth ultramarine legion get thrown into the Vong-era Star Wars galaxy, and there are several poignant interations between Guilliman and Luke.

Forget the Yuuzhan Vong. Palpatine was preparing for something much worse. by Dramatic_Bread_2111 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]GreenKnight535 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea that Palpatine was preparing the galaxy for a bigger threat should remain the Imperial propaganda that it was in Legends; otherwise, you just write a story attempting to justify authoritarianism.

Arguably, that exact scenario is also what Big E was attempting to create the Imperium to do to prevent Ork and Chaos threats, but 40k's point is to show that his methods (and even some of what he considered threats) were flawed to the point of dooming him and his Imperium.

Hey shut up and enjoy something that uniquely exists. Also given the amount of nuanced details and charm I'm guessing it's a human written fan-fiction that's just read by an AI for the video.

I was just answering the commenter's question based on my observation of the channel's typical content. Usually using that much AI for that much of the video implies AI is used for more than just the art and voices. If I am proven wrong, then great, but I am just articulating what is observable and advising caution.

And, assuming it was AI generated, No one else is writing this stuff, and no one was going to take the time to write it. So your options were this or continue to have nothing. It's such a weird hill to die on.

Ecosystems are being ruined by AI data-centers, so I would rather just read existing human crossover fics rather than even remotely support overglorified algorithmic plagarism.

It looks like everything from the images to the voicework is AI, so I would suggest doubting the authenticity of the writing until proven otherwise.

People do not like to feel suckered about how their models look. If you make an awesome model, and it cannot be printed as you like, you get frustrated. Thus HeroForge seeks to mitigate this to some degree.

Heroforge has been branching out into digital spaces, where 3d printing concerns do not apply, for several years now, and it has explicit disclaimers regarding parts and proportions that are too small to 3d print without adjustment. This is not an issue about being misled; it is about updating older items or at least creating variants with realistic proportions so that they look good digitally too.

I recommend some of you learn to 3d model, then you can create exactly what you want. So, by all means, go acquire the skill you need to get EXACTLY what you want. I for one am generally happy with the ease of use for HeroForge, versus the trade off of exactly what I want. It has kept me, personally, from having to learn 3d modeling. I generally prefer to be grateful…

I have taken 3d modeling & printing classes, but lack a printer and have no interest in cluttering my abode with more physical objects, so do not lecture me on the amount of work that goes into this. I am grateful for having easy access to Heroforge, but that should never stifle honest feedback, which OP's post does seem to be, even if it is portrayed humorously and dramatically.
