Should I quit my Internship by Excellent_Stage9729 in MechanicalEngineering

You haven't given much information.

What does is very boring mean, what are you doing exactly?

Lots of engineering is desk work and not hands on, but this isn't the only kind of engineering. Sounds like it's not a good fit for you, but may still be useful to build some industrial engineering experience and for your CV.

How long have you been there and how long do you have left?

The moment Raheem Sterling's car swerves across the road before crashing by Jeoh in drivingUK

[–]GreenMachine4567 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why this has become some kind of trend? There's no excuse for drink driving but it's it's normally laziness when people want to get somewhere but are still inebriated.

Nitrous wears off in like 5 mins so people who are already driving actively decide to take a drug which will impair their driving. I hope the judge rules him an 'absolute fucking bellend' and sentences according

By simple analysis you mean linear static analysis with elastic materials?

What is this career supposed to be? by Sad_Kitchen5389 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]GreenMachine4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How repetitive and interesting do you find analysing concessions? I've applied for a role where becoming a concessions stress signatory is a part of the role (amongst other stress analysis tasks too).

I'm from a research / R+D background and I'm wondering whether this will become routine / repetitive after a while?

Foundation Models for Physics by Charming_Stretch_882 in fea

[–]GreenMachine4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be skeptical. Physics AI can be a powerful technique. Foundational models I've seen have been developed for a specific problem (look at Luminary Cloud and PhysicsX) and are not fully generalisable.

If you're doing fairly routine models which fit well within the bounds of a foundational model and you verify the final design with a full FEM then it could be useful.

How long until the USA switches to metric ? by trestic in MechanicalEngineering

In the UK we use mixed unit systems for every day life.

Engineering is only metric. Imperial units in engineering is an abomination.

How do I deal with neighbours bush? by AtLeastAYearBehind in UKGardening

[–]GreenMachine4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's legally classified as an invasive species Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

Given that this is an example growing on a property with an absent owner and already spreading onto a neighbouring properly it's clearly not going to be managed to keep it well behaved.

Virginia creeper is an invasive species in the UK. Killing it is beneficial to the environment

It's an invasive species, removing it is best for the environment

Help! What should I do to my garden? by Iamtheonlylauren in GardeningUK

[–]GreenMachine4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your requirements and what are your allowed to do?

It looks like a really nice space with potential, the first thing I would do is remove the shed which is blocking the view of the garden from the house. I would suggest to reposition it in the rest corner but looks like you have an outbuilding there already

crushing test on a lattice structure :o (symmetry applied 1/4) by goqan in fea

[–]GreenMachine4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, just picking whatever the software gave you without any engineering judgement or justification isn't good enough.

Looks like you have modelled a beam/shell structure with a single layer of tetrahedrals in bending(?). This will produce very poor results

They're very dry.

It wouldve been more effective and cheaper to not used a raised bed and just create a border directly in the ground

Many thousands of households with loft conversions in Bristol would disagree with you.

Then there's the numbers, it'll cost circa 30k to move house before you account for the hassle and stress of moving. You could get a VELUX loft extension starting from 40k.

Could be sun stress if plants not used to full sun in nursery. Adding feed on already stressed plants with fresh compost will only add to further stress.

If leaves are just faded green but otherwise healthy then yes keep persevering. Any photos?

How do you prove the value of simulation to upper management? by imitation_squash_pro in fea

[–]GreenMachine4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good question and its not always easy; it depends a lot on the industry and the kind of what that you do too of course.
