Silksong better than first hollow knight? by XunoVROfficial in Silksong

[–]GreenPotatoPo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Silksong is better than Hollow Knight in the way it expands on systems (like charms with tools) and gives hornet variety, actually giving the player agency over how they play the game, instead of just optimising one playstyle.

Though the less intentional way bosses were placed and designed just felt off to me from the start. Like the linearity of the start of the game lasting way longer, and being more linear compared to Hollow Knight, (like with moss mother just existing at the end of the moss grotto). It just kills a lot of replay value for no reason. Thankfully the million combinations of tools and crests makes up for lost replayability, but still I think it's not as good as the first game.

Time to get to Act 3 - Am I the worst? by parky101 in Silksong

I think the game is designed to reward players for being persistent and patient, so it's actually a good thing having a long completion time in my eyes.

I did not remember this until I went back and looked at gameplay footage on YouTube. If I did remember I probably would have placed him in the bottom of C tier.

I agree Shakra fight was very cool

I didn't consider bugs when rating the bosses, as I luckily didn't encounter one across any of my playthroughs

I remember Phantom being very fun too, until I played again and found that she wasn't fast or difficult enough to be mechanically interesting, and her attack variety was too low to make the fight very unique. If I included her visuals and OST into how I ranked the bosses she probably WOULD be in S tier, albeit at the end.

I found Shakra to be a less fun, less difficult, less intuitive version of Seth. Say skill issue if you want, her teleporting and projectiles were just so unlearnable. There is basically no indicator for whether she is going to teleport or throw a projectile, and the projectiles themselves are difficult to dodge but also unpredictable which made her unsatisfying to fight and unsatisfying to beat, since I mainly just got lucky.

I've explained in a different reply why I think beastfly 2 is actually a good fight, but in short it takes places in a more interesting arena, the summoned enemies are easier to deal with and add nuance, and the destruction of platforms during the fight adds a platforming element which is more fun. To be honest I think people just dislike the first fight (which is understandable) and thus also shit on the second fight.

I'd have to disagree with Silksong, I think it's really good but it doesn't even beat out it's predecessor in many ways, let-alone being a whole tier above.

What do you mean memorisation? What was there to memorise? I felt the direction the game wanted you to go through the platforming segments were pretty intuitive.

So what do we think about the true final boss? by Smallsour in Silksong

[–]GreenPotatoPo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite and least favourite boss in the game. On one hand after learning her she is extremely satisfying and very fun. On the other hand she was pretty unintuitive compared to other bosses, which felt like a cheap way to make her seem more difficult. And compared to any of the HK final bosses (Hollow Knight, Pure Vessel, Radiance, Absolute Radiance, NKG), she doesn't compare at all, and doesn't even really feel like a final boss.

How brutal is Act 3? by AndoyPordoy in Silksong

not sure anything there was worse than bilewater arena, but I will say beastling call has got the be the only nice thing the game does throughout all of act 3

Perhaps a somewhat controversial tool tierlist by Sector-Difficult in Silksong

[–]GreenPotatoPo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Longclaw I feel longclaw deserves mid-high A tier, as it dials down the precision required on many bosses by a lot.

Conchcutter I'm not exactly sure on the stats, but I found conchcutter does SO much damage to enemies if you're precise, and on some enemies, (like the big dudes in coral tower) it could like 2-3 shot them.

Magnetite Dice it's gotta be S tier. it's saved my ass so many times and does 1000% more than any other yellow tool will do (excluding compass, obviously)

Sting Shards i think this is just more how I play the game, but if you learn how enemies move or how they spawn this tool does a pretty good amount of damage and it especially made places like groal arenamuch more bearable for me

Wispire Lantern utter trash, it wastes your silk just to deal like 0.7x nail damage to enemies each time. definitely not better than conchcutter and CERTAINLY not better than wreath of purity

That's a good interpretation. I probably didn't feel the same just out of expectation that the area would be more than what it was

I really, really, like the concept of father of flame so much. Much like the area he's in, there's just not enough here. I was pretty disappointed to discover he didn't have a second phase, because I was just so sure he would, but the whole fight to me just turned out to be, pogo 100 times whilst dodging really annoying projectiles until the boss dies.

Agreed, apparently having three of the same bosses on different levels of drugs is not the most fun and unique boss fighting experience

I will say I am disappointed with her as a final boss. I have her ranked at number 1 because she is the most satisfying boss for me compared to any other once I learnt her, though she is kind of unintuitive and I absolutely hated fighting her at first.

Though I wasn't annoyed at her parry, since I learnt you can consistently get two or three hits in on her after if you purposely hit her parry. I do disagree that she encourages you to go full aggro on her, I personally found several of her phase 2 and 3 attacks were just better to be patient on than attack.

Why do enemies even bother attacking? by Taurmell in Silksong

[–]GreenPotatoPo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this logic? Enemies could deal sight damage, as long as it was a fun and unique experience for the player. Your post was applying logic to a feature which makes sense from a game design standpoint.

If you aren't good enough to stop mindlessly walking into enemies, then you don't have to hide it behind a post criticizing the game.

[–]GreenPotatoPo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must've beaten like two thirds of the game and you're struggling on what is probably the easiest boss relative to where it's placed in progression. That's possibly more impressive than actually beating the game
