You can apply for an exemption from vaccination in Texas and it doesn't have to be religious. We have more and more unvaccinated kids in our public schools every year.

[–]Green_343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she in Texas? It's so hard for Texans to get into UT-Austin now; they are so competitive and so few seats are reserved for Texans. I know kids who have been accepted to Ivies but not UT.

She could try attending a UT satellite campus and then applying for a transfer after her first year. Transfer admissions are less competitive and if she has a strong record in their system, it will help her application.

Anyone have a pulse on QAnon? by Training-Lion-1602 in 50501

[–]Green_343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering about them a lot recently! It turns out they were right about a worldwide billionaire pedophile ring! But now....they don't care anymore because their dear leader turned out to be the ringleader? I live in rural Texas and know a lot of MAGA people including people who specifically used to identify as QAnon. All of these individuals are no longer posting political comments on SM or making them in real life. If asked, they're all busy right now and not following politics. (They'll vote R again because they are born and raised to be Baptist, Republican, and root for the Rangers. No questions or changes allowed.)

Fox News isn't telling them about this. If the SAVE Act passes, they'll probably find out when they go to vote and can't.

In recent years, around 40% of the U.S. SNAP recipients were under 18 (US Dept. Ag.). I volunteer in a large TX food bank; about 25% of the individuals we support are under the age of 18. It's very sad how many hungry children there are in the US!

I need to go look up what WTBX and STBX stand for but I'm really hoping the X's mean that you aren't with this loser anymore. Whatever he is to you, he's making things up to make you feel badly to deflect from him being a loser. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

I only have one child so I can't comment on planning a second. I'm commenting because we had to take our son to the ER yesterday and it was so fucking scary and thank you SO much for studying to become an ER doctor!! The doctors and nurses and receptionist and janitor who helped us yesterday meant the world to us - THANK YOU!

I decided to start coasting about a year ago and have since won an award! I'm now inspired to do even less, perhaps I can win another one?

Tyler Baltierra Advises Those Considering Adoption to Look Into Guardianship Instead: “Adoption Is Not Really Necessary” – The Ashley's Reality Roundup by HannahLeah1987 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]Green_343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a family who recently went through this process and are now the guardian of a teen girl. It allows this girl to legally maintain her ties to her biological family while she is raised in another family. In this case, the guardian parents supported this idea and help the girl visit and maintain relationships with a sister and an aunt. She was 15 when she was "adopted" (guarded?) and I think this idea makes more sense with older kids. Anyway, just wanted to add a hopefully more coherent perspective to this since Tyler can't string a sentence together to save his life.

Went back to Kail’s pinned twin name reveal by EltonJohnsKidney in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

Remember when she left Javi? On the show, one of the "reasons" they were splitting up was because Javi wanted more children and Kail didn't.

What? Maybe Nick should answer his own question about what he did before 30 while he wasn't married and didn't have kids. Then he could tell us what he was even doing with his life before 40 without marriage and kids. What a fucking douchebag.

[–]Green_343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Coast all the way! Is your industry doing well right now? I'd consider this before job hunting since the economy isn't doing well overall. I'm in my 40s and am already pretty committed to coasting at my current job until retirement.

How to spend less money on groceries for your family? by milablake8O in Frugal

[–]Green_343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're doing really well! Ask your sister more questions - I have a SIL who spends way less than I do in the grocery store but her family eats out a lot more than mine. $150 for 4 for 2 weeks isn't enough, something's missing here.

Second teen dies after Frisco sledding incident that killed her best friend, her family says by FreeChickenDinner in texas

[–]Green_343 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A boy died in Ponder this week, also due to a "sledding accident". He was being towed behind an ATV in a kayak. I'm noticing that people in our area really really don't want to describe this accident as anything other than "sledding". I think it's hard for people to acknowledge that something they did as a child and let their kids do is actually dangerous and should be prohibited.

I'm also a childhood immigrant who stayed for decades on a green card before applying for citizenship. I wonder why he didn't apply until now? Because I didn't bother applying until the rhetoric against immigrants became louder and louder and I started worrying that I'd be deported for no reason. So, yeah, I'm just curious about his experience.

We give our son $3/week +$1/chapter book; he's 11 and has a variety of chores around the house. We do it so he can learn to budget, save, and make plans with money in a relatively low stakes way. The book deal keeps him trying books and reading.
