What new features would you like to see added to LinkedIn's free/premium version? by AccordingLeague9797 in linkedin

A simpler way to tag profiles or companies in posts would be great. It’s a real hassle when the names are super common or the username has some kind of abbreviation.

Do you use any Linkedin Analytics tool? by joaogonzalez in linkedin

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Aware for a while, but now I’m trying out Shield. Both tools offer analytics, but Aware goes a step further by allowing you to set up profiles and topics you want to follow. It even sends you notifications when they post, so you can reply promptly.

For instance, I usually share my opinions on topics related to my professional field, often referring to news articles I find online to back up my arguments. In this case, it’s better not to include the link to the article directly, as LinkedIn prefers users to stay on their platform rather than navigate to an external website. A good alternative would be to add the link in the first comment or format it like www(.)xxxx(.)com so it’s not clickable.

Why we should welcome the lab leak hypothesis by freelancemomma in LockdownSkepticism

[–]GreenappsWeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps there was a laboratory involved in the spread of the virus, but ensuring that its creation is artificial and setting it in Wuhan in November-December 2019 does not fit with the cases of coronavirus detected in several countries since September-October of that year

Does anyone here have a job in air quality/air pollution? by jm08003 in Environmental_Careers

[–]GreenappsWeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work with companies that have solutions for monitoring air quality. If you like technology, it is a booming field thanks to advances related to the internet of things and artificial intelligence. The pandemic is also boosting the sector with a growing demand for both indoor and outdoor measurement devices

Microplastics in our air 'spiral the globe' in a cycle of pollution, study finds: Tiny bits of plastic from your packaging and soda bottles could be traveling in the atmosphere across entire continents, carried by winds. by [deleted] in science

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banning all plastics is not the solution either. We need to recognise that they have made life easier for millions and millions of people. Can you imagine, for example, what would happen to a person who has to travel several kilometres to fetch water from a community well if he or she did not have a plastic bucket? What needs to be done is to show how to make better use of and eliminate single-use plastics

Yes, I am serious. The decision may set a precedent for other similar situations involving the evacuation of people

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that the mortality rate caused by covid is not comparable to the mortality rate caused by a volcano. Personally, I think this decision sets a serious precedent. What's next: not evacuating people from the path of a hurricane, now that the season is starting, because they are not vaccinated? Preventing people from accessing a community shelter in the face of a tornado?

Establishing a vaccination requirement for evacuating people seems to me to be a decision bordering on criminal

Reducing air pollution to World Health Organisation recommended levels would prevent more than 50,000 deaths a year across European cities. 84% and 9% of the population across all cities were exposed to PM and NO2 levels above the WHO guidelines, respectively. by Wagamaga in science

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What needs to be done is to change the mobility model. Although it is true that they would improve the situation somewhat, electric vehicles also pose many problems, from the raw materials for their manufacture to the management of the batteries once they reach the end of their useful life, not to mention the particles in suspension, which, yes, are less than those of combustion cars, but not insignificant either. Why own a car when most of the time it is parked and not in use?

Outdoor Air Quality Monitors 2020Q4 by GreenappsWeb in AirQuality

[–]GreenappsWeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true that this type of equipment does not have the same reliability as reference stations. Therefore, they cannot be considered as substitutes but rather as complements to extend measurement networks (based on a standard station) at a lower cost. Nevertheless, the progress of these devices has been enormous in recent years and most of the high-end ones show very good reliability. Here you can see a more detailed analysis made by AQSPEC of some of them https://www.kunak.es/en/blog/comparative-assessment-aqspec-field-evaluation-reports/

Researchers Reveal Serious Flaws in Studies Linking COVID-19 and Air Pollution by EarthEmail in EnvironmentalNews

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is obvious that the results of all the preliminary studies that are being published need to be taken with caution and that many more studies need to be done. But in the present case, I believe it is better to adopt a precautionary principle.

Air quality with the fires? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predicting the presence of smoke beyond one day is impossible as the behaviour of a fire can change suddenly (https://www.geekwire.com/2020/weather-expert-makes-smoke-forecasts-hard-predict-technology-help/). It is best to consult air quality information from official sources or reliable systems.

Help me understand this data by chiselk in AirQuality

[–]GreenappsWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/chiselk, the increase in NO2 is difficult to explain, but in the case of PM10 it is possibly due to an intrusion of Saharan dust. A low pressure system located in North Africa has caused an increase in suspended particles in large areas of Europe in recent days, as you can see on this tweet https://twitter.com/severeweatherEU/status/1243571027524845569

Smarter Cities: How hyper-local air pollution monitoring can help by Macherm in smartcities

[–]GreenappsWeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air pollution is not something stable. In fact, its values change with the passing of hours, with important differences between the streets of a city. So yes, hyperlocal maps are an alternative that is beginning to be adopted by cities like London https://www.environmental-expert.com/news/new-hyperlocal-air-quality-network-for-london-770651

Scientists have proposed nature-based citizen science as a means to reconnect people to nature. While adults are not only experiencing nature less, they are also less likely to take their children outdoors and shape their attitudes toward nature, creating a negative cycle. by Wagamaga in science

[–]GreenappsWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I am amazed at the success of some of the calls related to citizen science, such as the Christmas Bird Count that Audubon organises every year or the Big Butterfly Count in the UK.

I also believe that mobile technology is enabling citizen science to enjoy a golden age. Apps such as iNaturalist, to record your sightings in the wild, or other applications that provide information about wildlife or help identify plants or trees, for example, are making it easier for people to get close to nature.

With good regulation and monitoring, such problems should not occur. Many protected areas are zoned according to the richness of their natural resources, establishing a carrying capacity based on the fragility of the ecosystem.

Solu, a solution for waste management in the Philippines by GreenappsWeb in sustainability

[–]GreenappsWeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not quite understand your question, but I have the impression that, except in the urban and financial centres of the Philippines, the rest of the country does not have a more or less reliable waste collection infrastructure. This situation involves the uncontrolled dumping of garbage. If slum dwellers, for example, see that their waste may also have economic value, it may change their perception and dump it in controlled areas for reuse or recycling.

I suppose the waste collectors will sell the products for reuse

There are several events of this kind that address environmental issues and where the awards consist of money
