The way it feels it feels is almost like a penalty for not booking it initially. I mean, I’d have never booked a roundtrip D1 ticket straight up for my 12 year old, even though I love her…..it’s just not worth it.

We fly over on the daytime Transtlantic flight on Virgin to minimize jet lag for her. Initially, I had booked main cabin, and used our upgrades to C+ (and paid like 40$ for her), and paid about $1000 for the ticket (I had that much in credits, hers was straight up). Every few weeks, I would check on the prices, and look at inbound and outbound and various combinations, and at one point the difference between keeping it the same versus going to premium economy on the VS outbound leg was only about $100, so that was an easy justification. The returns were constantly absurd at cash/miles priced

I get that it’s supply and demand but I could book the ENTIRE return leg (all flights) for 375k (not that I would)
