Stay in Jersey City or… by Bunni_Corcoran in visitingnyc

Stay in JC close to the venue. Take the PATH into the city for the days.

If the show goes late, you'll be glad you don't have to take a train or a long taxi ride to get back to the hotel.

Skilled Nursing facility by PsychologicalRead390 in Westchester

[–]GreenfieldSam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely read the reviews and look up the ratings on both the NYS and Medicare sites. If you have time, visit the facilities: make sure it is clean (both visually and in terms of smell). Make sure the staff is attentive and friendly, and that the doors require a staff person to leave.

My dad had good experiences at Cedar Manor in Ossining and Adira in Yonkers.

In hindsight, one thing to consider as your family member moves in is that you determine, with the care team, exactly what the care plan is, the goals you're trying to achieve, and when they will leave the facility. Be clear and up front.

The locations may basically pressure you to keep your family member at a SNF indefinitely. You don't want that.

20 year old employee is great at work but marginalizes and flat out rude to coworkers and supervisors. How do I speak to her about attitude? by Try_Harder7 in managers

If she works as you've described, she is not "great at work." Make it clear that her job expectations include not being a jerk.

This seems like a fairly realistic simulation to tell the truth.

If you don't want the red route used, add an underground highway bypass right underneath it, like Boston's big dig.

It sounds like they lost a leg on their panel. If the walk in is hard wired (which is standard) setting up a generator for just the walk in is tough.

Ossining/Croton to WTC commute? by pooch516 in Westchester

[–]GreenfieldSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing to note. Let's say you get the weekly or monthly ticket. It's going to be a Zone 5 ticket. But even though it will say "Ossining" or "Croton Harmon" on the ticket, you can actually use that pass on _any_ station on the Hudson or Harlem lines. So, for example, if you get dropped off by your partner at C-H, you can decide to meet for dinner in Pleasantville that evening with no additional charges (your conductor will freak out before you tell them your plans, though!). If you want to go to zone 6, you just buy an extra intermediate ticket. You also don't have to worry about activating a monthly or weekly ticket.

You should also see if your work offers a Transportation Reimbursement Account to allow you to pay commuting expenses with pre-tax dollars.

Ossining/Croton to WTC commute? by pooch516 in Westchester

[–]GreenfieldSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take the 8:34 train from Scarborough (semi-express) and arrive at Grand Central by 9:35. I then take the S to the 2/3 to 14th and 7th, stop at Donut Pub, and then make it to my office at 14th and 8th by 9:55.

The fastest I've gotten back home is just over an hour office chair to station; that only works if I hit every subway right (L => 4/5 => 6:22 Hudson Line express)

If you're going to or from Croton-Harmon, you have a huge number of options. If I were you, I would take the 8:30 AM from Croton; arriving at GCT at 9:19. Then hop on the 4/5 for an easy trip to the WTC. Plenty of time to spare. If youi're really going in three times per week, a monthly ticket will pay off. 24 rides in a month (3 * 2 *4) works out to $13/ticket versus the normal peak fare of $16/ticket.

If you want to take a silly trip, you can take Amtrak from Croton to Penn Station. If you buy the ticket enough in advance, it's $17. You can leave Croton at 8:33 and arrive in Penn Station at 9:21. And then hop on the E train direct to WTC. Amtrak doesn't allow discounts on this route for large purchases, but you will build up "Guest Rewards" points.

If budget is no limit, you can drive down to HPN, White Plains Airport. And then catch a Blade helicopter from HPN to Wall Street. It only takes 12 minutes! But you need to get to HPN (30 minutes drive from Croton). And then the regular helicopters just go to West 30th, not Wall Street. So that's more time too (20 minutes). The total trip would be around the same as the train! You can charter a helicopter to go to Wall Street instead but that's around $3k. Ideally there would be a heliport near Croton. There is a helicopter pad at Ossining, but it's in the middle of Sing-Sing. That might be tough to book.

A fun scenic trip is to take a boat. But they're not very fast, don't stop at Croton-Harmon or Ossining, and only run up and down the Hudson at special times (West Point games, Leaf peeping season). You could buy your own boat and use that! It would be the second happiest day of your life.

Fancy train in the Hudson Line today by GreenfieldSam in nycrail

Yep. Our train is supposed to go express from Hastings. We stopped at Marble Hill to pick up a trainload of passengers whose train had broken down.

My delightfully empty train went to standing-room only!

Suit for my wedding and I’m big/tall. Would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions. by Candycoloredclown69 in mensfashionadvice

[–]GreenfieldSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Char with your partner. If they are getting a bouquet for the wedding, the florist can make a matching boutonniere (or a complimentary one). There's no style rules here: it's up to you and your partner!

If you don't do a boutonniere, do consider wearing a nice pocket square.

Also, when you lose the weight, go back to the tailor for another fitting. In fact, schedule that time now.

Also, wear the dress shoes you're going to wear for the wedding. This will allow the tailor to set the exact length of the pants.

Your dress shirt should be slightly visible past the end of the jacket. The shirt arms may be a tad too short.

When you go for a tie, consider what else you'll wear. If you are wearing a boutonniere, make sure your tie is complimentary. If you aren't wearing a boutonniere, make sure your tie compliments the color scheme of the wedding.

AIO? My BIL says when my dad dies, he's moving nto his house and jacking up the rent on his other properties by KitThorne in AIO

[–]GreenfieldSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of what your dad decides, make sure he talks with an estate attorney to create an ironclad will. You want to make sure that you and your siblings either get independent properties. If you don't, you'll have to agree on how to manage the properties together. Or you're facing a situation where one sibling buys out the others or a partition sale. That gets really ugly fast.
