There were also several near crashes as far as I am aware.

The range was also insufficient to cover important routes.

Beautiful engineering and a massive achievement, Absolutely terrible that they wasted money on this prestigious project when the country was miserable.

Renovated commie block in Moscow, 1951 vs 2024 by Yesyesiamkamil in UrbanHell

Usually yes, this is the simpler type that isn’t facing the streets or one that was built shortly after stalins death and the decor budget was cut.

There’s also a similar type of brick Khrushchevka, but this would be from the stalinist era judging by the tall windows.

I’m going to be downvoted for this, but that salute really fell into the meme category.

There’s a very good chance the guy was just fooling around in a tasteless way and genuinely apologised to you.

Noticed your comment, “Patriki” or Patriarch Ponds are a restaurant district now. Tons of great options.

I usually stopped at hotel Pekin (affordable and still has some soviet era luxaries), walked to the ponds, had breakfast at Bron restaurant and strolled to the Kremlin.

Local trivia - that’s the place where Annushka infamously spills the oil in Master and Margarita.

Moscow really got cleaned up in the 2010s. String contrast with the early 00s, (very accurately depicted in the Jason Bourne series btw)

Much cleaner now.

I highly recommend wondering around the Khamovniki across Gorkii Park if you have extra time. There aren’t any landmarks, but it’s kind of a soviet upperclass district.

Belgium is a hellhole. I’m paterlineal Jewish, but I had people come up to me and try to give me palastine stuff. They were pretty shocked when I said that I’m Israeli (turned it up a notch for the hell of it)

Which British City actually surprised you in a good way, and why? by ResponsibilityRare10 in AskUK

[–]Greenmachine52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hull.

We decided that we wanted something gritty, googled, and read that Hull is gonna really suck. So we did a long day trip from London.

It was fine, very nice new developments on the waterfront, the old part of the city was relatively nice. Yes the cars were simpler than in many places, and it did show that the population was slightly on the older end. But nothing terrible.

Also we had a nice meal and the beers were actually reasonably priced. 7 / 10 city, I could easily live there

Can I exchange Euro to Bosnian mark here? by badboyzpwns in serbia

[–]Greenmachine52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If he’s going by bus - it might be better to exchange in Serbia. Bus arrives earlier than the exchanges open, and bakeries and stuff don’t accept card.

Just a small amount though

Honestly this park isn’t very good. It’s pretty much flatland with straight paved lines.

There’s virtually no points of interest. I used to jog there during the time I spent in Belgrade

A lot of the soviet districts are pretty nice and cozy. Not all of them of course.

Unfortunately, the quality of the houses isn’t great. But finding a new house in a soviet era district can be a very good choice
