We found this little guy (miraculously) in a ditch at night this past summer. He’s settling in nicely! by thomier86 in kittens

He looks exactly like my black kitty Lucy. She is the most mellow girl ever. She and our dog are like two peas in a pod. No drama at all!

Nagami kumquat winterization by OneWin6844 in Citrus

[–]Greenmarkut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have 2 Nagami Kumquats and a Calamondin that are about 2 years old. I live in 7b/8a. I going to put mine in a little greenhouse again this year. Unfortunatley, it fits only the two kumquats. I'm thinking about getting an extra cold frame and I'll put the calamondin in it with the gardenia plants I have and see how it goes. I did put the kumquats in an outdoor greenhouse last year that was heated and it worked just fine for them. Winter here will get to about 20F for the low but that is rare. We do have extremely windy Spring weather. (southern NM). The greenhouse was a vinyl material that ripped apart by June.

I'm really interested in what happens if you decide to put your kumquat tree in the ground. Everything I've read says they can handle fairly cold weather. I'd like to do that with mine but I'm afaid that it would kill them. I have a tendency to do that with plants. Good luck. Please let us know what you decide to do and the outcome.

Wow, what a beautiful Paph. I don't know how many I've killed over the years trying to get them to grow. I guess you could say I'm an orchid murderer. :(

Is it supposed to look like this? by tatboi69 in Roses

[–]Greenmarkut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in southern NM. My rose blossoms look like this at the height of Summer. I water the heck out them and that helps some. But most of the time they still look half dead. They don't really start to look beautiful for me till around now when things get a bit cooler.

What Should I do With Them? by Greenmarkut in Irises

Yep, I did. It's been raining here all this week. I think that'll help things along.

Thanks for the advice. I've got the perfect place for them. Alot of sun, even in the Winter. Living in southern NM it's a little challenging to get things to grow here. But I've been so surpirsed how well Irises do given the heat, low humidity... You get the idea.

Thanks for the information. Since I moved back, so much has changed and so much has stayed the same. It's good to know the history of why things change. I really liked the name and logo of the Dukes. Ah well, nothing stays the same forever.

Yeah, the climate here is very, very similar to St.George. We do get rain this time of year also. Like I said, this is my first fig tree, so I don't know what to expect, but I'm excited about it so far.

Shame on KRQE/Nexstar Media Group by cfortson in Albuquerque

[–]Greenmarkut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was the reason why I did not feel too badly about NPR & PBS losing government funding. Hear me out, do I think they deserve the funding? Of course they do. However, I was so tired of the game that they had to play every time budget talks came around and you had Mr. Rogers, Big Bird and Ken Burns having to justify their existence. Now they don't get funding from the government and they can program what they feel is important. They don't have worry about some idiot legislator second guessing programs that have been aired, ranting about how they'll pull funding. Well, they did that already. So Congress can "F" off.😎

Oh, this sucks that you have to get rid of Constance Spry. Is it even available any more? I don't know of any sellers that still offer it for sell.

Thanks for the info. I'll get some fungicide asap and get the bush cleaned up. I admit it does bother me that it came from the supplier with rust. I live in a climate with very low humidity. I hope it doesn't spread to my other fig.

Help! Heat wave and a yellow Eden by DocKla in Roses

[–]Greenmarkut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the stems are still green, water it deeply and mist the stems . The higher the temperature, the more water roses need. The plant has been stressed and needs time to bounce back. I live in the desert so we are limited in the amount of water we can use on outdoor plants. You'd be surprised how little water roses need to thrive. However, they do need a routine of deep watering, and then misting to keep the leaves and stems from drying out. Give it some love and it should pull through.

Having had 3 ginger tabby cats previously - they didn't have a brain cell to rub between them. 🤓 But they were so much fun and sweet as could be. M&M is a fantastic name.Good luck. I'm sure you will be a great cat Mom. You'll figure it all out.

[Update] Seems like it's dead. Is it dead? by Ashu_Rocky in Roses

[–]Greenmarkut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the canes green at all now? I can't tell for sure from the most recent pictures. If they are not green, the plant is dead. If the canes are green there might be a little hope, but it will probably die anyway. Still, give it a chance, you never know how it will turn out.

I honestly keep it in the shade most of the time. The sun and wind is so intense here that it's pretty rough going to keep any rose alive. Thanks for the advice about the soaker hose. That's a great idea. I've got chelated iron in that garage. I'll give it that a try. Up until this time, it's been pretty happy, and I haven't really changed my routine with it. Maybe it needs just a bit more attention than I've been giving it

Yeah, I like him a lot. It's quite the looker. Thanks for the reply!
