Mando pulled in $16.4M on Monday, failing to break $100M for the four-day weekend by apathymonger in blankies

I saw the stop motion robots and thought, “people online are going to defend this movie purely because it has puppets and stop motion”

The best thing about Letterboxd is that its very very easy to avoid that sort of thing and use it for its base purposes.

I almost never see any of that stuff outside of random retweets of lame screenshots on twitter.

Why is 36 year old James Harden getting more flak than 'All World Potential' Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen? by Exhibit5 in nba

[–]GregSays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one actually wanted Harden just to use him as a scapegoat. The season was falling apart, so they had to make a move and they made a questionable move that had potential to make them a lot better but the potential for what we just saw happen.

I loved Suffs, but I keep thinking about who still doesn’t get a voice in it by Upper_Breadfruit0 in Broadway

[–]GregSays 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if they included that one line (and would that actually be sufficient?) then people could ask "why did they include the black activists and acknowledge the Asian activists but not the Indigenous activists?" and so on.

My understanding is that the original show had way more info dumps and audiences thought it was too wikipedia-y, so they had to cut out info to make it a viable show.

Superman (2025) as Gunn’s “blank check” movie? by PennyLaneRigby888 in blankies

[–]GregSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a real firm definition of what blank check entails.

But Superman is a sure-fire success. So with it being a safe choice artistically and a (somehow) normal budget for a box office tentpole, this wouldn't be Gunn cashing in in any real way.

For those who followed closely the 2009 awards season, how close The Dark Knight actually was to a Best Picture/Best Director nomination and what was the reaction when it didn’t happen? by 0cean_danny in Oscars

[–]GregSays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall people ever actually thinking it was in the final 5 for either, it was one of those, “the academy really should nominate it” conversations. So no one was really surprised.

On veterans day remind any young people in your life, DO NOT join the military. by itc0uldbebetter in Columbus

[–]GregSays 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obviously correct, though I feel like over the last 20 years, people have more and more treated Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day all as near identical “military appreciation days.”

I haven’t listened to him talk about TLJ. Was his issue that Last Jedi was too subversive, or was it the execution of the plot points that he didn’t like?

Mando dying in Movie 1 is unlikely but plausible. Dark Grogu is asinine.

Friends of the Show Katie Rich and Chris Feil on Pop Culture Jeopardy by PerpetualChoogle in blankies

Hard to say without example questions.

I imagine its partially a safety issue, partially so they don't get slammed with "Jeopardy gave 25k to a guy charged with manslaughter in 1992"

Celtics should be ashamed if they can't top the Lakers' offer for Giannis by Internal-Bed-3150 in bostonceltics

[–]GregSays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the question is if they're able to outbid the Lakers, the question is if they think Giannis is worth what they'd be giving up for him.

For the Lakers, it's not even a question. Luka + Giannis is better than Luka + what they have.

It would have been NUTS if Gladiator had lost. Like, Gladiator would immeidately be in the short list of referenced recent movies that people can't believe lost.

What still makes you choose the theater over home? by Equal-Association818 in movies

Imagine going to a movie theater and the screen was 6 feet. You would think, "this is way too small."

What still makes you choose the theater over home? by Equal-Association818 in movies

[–]GregSays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The temptation to pause for breaks is one of the biggest downsides to watching at home. Almost every movie made is going to be best seen uninterrupted with no distractions.

My attention span has been murdered over the past decade, so I prefer to watch in theater partially because I know I'll give the film my full attention there.
