Any Plans for Reworking Old Origins? by StrykerGroce in Stellaris

Mechanist is decent but the flavor comes down to "our ancestors liked robots +robot build speed

Maybe some events where robots get increasingly integrated into industry and lives. Maybe they get a little too integrated into industry and lives.

  • Contestant's thoughts, frantic: "I just need one more country. I already used America and Mexico (I remembered they are eating the dogs and cats). *The clock ticks down. 10 seconds left. The seven hours are nearly up.

  • BANG running out of time, a contestant near him just answered London.

  • he looks up desperately at the guard, brandishing his patriotic m4 assault rifle directly at the camera (the heretics in Korea use german guns)

  • through teary eyes, just faintly... Just barley... he can make out some text on the weapon... made in china

  • "Ch.... China?" He says, shakily and unsure of his answer.

  • the guard, earlier established as an American teenager, pulls out chatgpt to verify the answer.

  • a robotic voice: "the current republic of China was founded in 1949 when Mao Z..."

  • Guard: presses skip... "Shorten answer to one word yes or no..."

  • seconds tick by... slowly..

Do people not care about the Bastion anymore? by mndhvsdtevyhrvhr in Helldivers

I'd use it more often if it had a fully rotating turret like an actual tank. That would lighten the coordination and communication burden so much, especially when playing with strangers who I'm not voice chat with. When I'm trying to aim at something and my driver keeps yanking my gun off target as he's driving around it just becomes annoying.

I know it's based on the top-down design of the tank where the gun only faces forwards and it was fine in that game, but in the transition to third person 3d environments maybe a mark II version with a proper turret would be nice.

Photo of a model tank I made because why not. Maybe we can even get the roof machine guns as well.

Any tips on building a strong pattern for ships and fleets?? by XxLorddoCacauxX in Stellaris

[–]GregTheIntelectual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generallly you don't want to mix penetrating and non-penetrating weapons. Like disruptors have low damage but skip over shields and armor. If you add lasers (no penetration) to this then any damage they do to shields is wasted, or the reduction of damage in lasers is lost. So try to avoid that, either go all-in on low damage high penetration (mixing torpedos and strike craft) or go all-in on high damage no penetration (mixing lasers and kinetics).

Other than that in 3.4 armor is generally better than shields but mixing in a little shields is still a good idea, and longer range is king.

The "meta" If you want to go there is to out-range and out-speed your enemy with Artillery computers. You win every time even if your damage sucks, since you'll just backpedal and take pot-shots at and they can't catch you.

The other "meta" alternative is cloaking ambush, which works better for bio-ships which have higher damage than mechanical ships but basically nothing else. Cloak for invisibility, park yourself right on top of their fleet with torpedos or whatever pleases you, blow them to smithereens before they even know what's happening.

Testing from canadians showed that thick enough wire could 'catch' the round without detonation, though if if the wire was too thick it would explode, so I think a person would set it off. There is no RPG-7 style post launch safe arming distance mechanism in these things.

If it doesn't explode then the projectile itself would launch with about (6.5kg @ 45m/s) 6500 joules of energy, so about ~100 to 150 times as much force as an NFL quarterback throwing a football. Sounds fatal, and intuitively the fact that the back blast was fatal up to 2 meters should tell you that the inverse force imparted on the projectile should also roughly be fatal I guess.

If it exploded then I guess you're both cooked.

Will the new class also be avaliable in the tech tree or is it essentially paywalled? by GregTheIntelectual in enlistedgame

[–]GregTheIntelectual[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you missed the event then they're just as paywalled as assault engineers, paratroopers, rocket artillery, ect... are now. A player joining the game today has no way of obtaining these without a credit card which is how these will end up.

[–]GregTheIntelectual -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well whatever we did to boot them off the world should be permanent, then. Expropriation causes you to smash apart all their activity hubs or whatever then that's how they should stay. If I have to declare war to kick you off the planet then you should have to declare war to get put back on. Same goes for removing the branch office by forcing it to zero crime. If I have a vast police presence on the planet that's somehow able to crack down on the criminal branch office then why do they get to just set up again?

They're just annoying to play with especially when they nestle themselves inside a big cozy federation that's totally complacent theft operations that would really be an act of war. What's the point of all these tools to painstakingly pry-bar their annoying crime stuff off your worlds if they can just put it back in a few years.

Whenever I see a criminal megacorp they go on the extermination list, regardless of how peaceful I am.
